00:01:10 Welcome to Ankara, Turkey for the
00:01:18 conclusion of semi-finals day in the
00:01:21 women's individual. That there is the
00:01:24 riding course which is where of course
00:01:26 the semifinals begin. World Cup final
00:01:29 unique in that it follows the Olympic
00:01:31 format with riding available for
00:01:33 athletes during the semifinals. That is
00:01:36 of course the first of five disciplines
00:01:37 to bring you live here from Ankara, Turkey.
00:01:39 The conclusion of the World Cup series
00:01:42 here in the 2023 Pentathlon circuit. We
00:01:46 started the year in Cairo, we're now
00:01:47 finishing the year once again in Ankara,
00:01:50 Turkey. A little bit warmer, 20 degrees
00:01:51 Celsius. There was the odd threat of a
00:01:54 storm that would potentially promise to
00:01:57 disrupt this competition. No signs of the
00:01:59 rain just yet so we'll keep everything
00:02:01 crossed in hope that the bad weather
00:02:03 stays away. We've not been fortunate with
00:02:05 the weather on the Pentathlon season this
00:02:08 year. It has to be said we've had some
00:02:11 pretty wet and miserable conditions
00:02:13 throughout the year but it hasn't taken
00:02:15 away from what has been a very, very
00:02:17 dramatic year of competition. And as we
00:02:21 all know now the format has changed in
00:02:23 the Pentathlon so let's just take a
00:02:24 quick look at how things will pan out
00:02:27 here in Ankara, Turkey. So that there is
00:02:30 the venue and it is actual shots of the
00:02:33 venue in this animation which of course
00:02:34 begins with riding. The athletes start
00:02:37 with 300 points. The aim is to maintain
00:02:39 those 300 points without having any
00:02:41 knockdowns, refusals or time penalties.
00:02:43 Then over to the fencing bonus round for
00:02:45 the extra battles after ranking round.
00:02:48 Two points for every victory added to
00:02:51 your score. Then things move quickly over
00:02:53 to the swimming. A 200 meter swim in this
00:02:57 25 meter pool before we conclude things
00:02:59 of course with the Laser Run. Five times
00:03:02 600 meters of this course here in
00:03:05 Ankara, Turkey. The first lap is the
00:03:07 formation lap. We then make our way to
00:03:09 the shooting range where the athletes
00:03:11 have to shoot four series at 10 meters
00:03:13 distance. You have to hit the five
00:03:14 targets before you can move on. This is
00:03:17 modern Pentathlon. This is the new format.
00:03:19 It's fast. It's frantic. It's modern
00:03:21 Pentathlon 2023. Welcome to the World Cup
00:03:25 Final. Semi-final B of the women's
00:03:28 individual event. We'll introduce
00:03:30 Irene Prampolini who is joining us in
00:03:32 the comment box in just a few moments
00:03:34 time. The fans have gathered as they look
00:03:38 forward to the start of the semi-finals
00:03:40 here in Ankara, Turkey but we will be
00:03:43 taking a quick look back at the fencing
00:03:46 ranking round before we move on to the
00:03:48 riding because of course the ranking
00:03:50 round did begin yesterday and concluded
00:03:54 yesterday and this is of course
00:03:55 semi-final B so we'll focus on the
00:03:57 athletes. The 18 athletes that are
00:03:58 competing in this semi-final. There's
00:04:00 actually 17 because Jessica Varley from
00:04:01 Great Britain withdrew from the
00:04:03 competition after having an injury. So it
00:04:07 is Heidi Morsey who is top of the pile
00:04:09 in not just this semi-final but overall
00:04:11 24 victories just 11 defeats. Heidi
00:04:14 Morsey in very very good form and she
00:04:16 will be the one they're all trying to
00:04:18 catch but it's all about getting inside
00:04:19 that top nine. Don't forget here in
00:04:22 semi-finals if you're inside that top
00:04:24 nine then you will of course compete in
00:04:26 the final. The ranking round results do
00:04:28 carry over to the final. So let's just
00:04:32 take a quick look then at those scores.
00:04:33 Morsey three touches ahead of Xiong
00:04:36 Mengxiong. She's pretty much all but
00:04:37 guaranteed her place in the final but
00:04:39 down in ninth place Ipak Aksim on 17
00:04:42 points, 17 touches alongside her and
00:04:45 Anna Gjertz and in tenth place it is
00:04:47 very very tight around there. Olivia
00:04:49 Green and Catherine Marr and Oliver will
00:04:52 be looking to try and bolster their way
00:04:53 up that scoreboard. Ilka Ruzic is a local
00:04:55 favorite in 12th place. A quick runner
00:04:57 she could be one to watch later in the
00:04:58 competition. Blanca Guzzi who we must
00:05:00 mention had a very fantastic season with
00:05:03 their first gold medal. Her first medal
00:05:04 in fact coming in front of her home
00:05:06 crowd in Budapest. If she could surprise
00:05:08 a few then it would be of course in the
00:05:12 Laser Rump. So that's where we are and we
00:05:15 welcome Irini back into the commentary
00:05:17 box. A pleasure to have you once again
00:05:18 Irini. Hello everyone. Yes as we can see
00:05:22 now is the first sport is riding and is
00:05:26 the first time, it's only the World Cup
00:05:29 final in the end in Tokyo, sorry in the
00:05:33 next Olympic Games. Paris, you're three
00:05:36 years earlier. Sorry. That we have riding
00:05:40 in the semi. As we saw before in the
00:05:43 semi-final A, riding can make a huge
00:05:47 difference if you do a very good score.
00:05:50 Well we saw in semi-final A a few
00:05:54 problems, didn't we? Seven eliminations,
00:05:56 only one perfect score. This without
00:05:59 question is a very difficult riding
00:06:02 course Irini. Yeah it's a very difficult
00:06:04 riding course. Turns are very difficult,
00:06:07 the fence are not straight, number four
00:06:12 is difficult to get in the center.
00:06:15 But hopefully the horse have done
00:06:19 already one turn. So hopefully this
00:06:25 will be better.
00:06:34 So Blanca Guzzi comes into this event
00:06:37 in fine form after winning golds in
00:06:40 Budapest in front of her home crowd.
00:06:42 There is the first knockdown now and no
00:06:44 surprises it's into 5A. You mentioned
00:06:47 that you spoke to Jamie Cook actually
00:06:49 the Swiss coach about a problem area.
00:06:51 We'll come back to that in a moment.
00:06:55 So Blanca Guzzi with just that one
00:06:59 knockdown. She's having a good riding.
00:07:03 Guzzi heading towards 10. This could be
00:07:09 a solid start. It is a 2.93 for Guzzi.
00:07:13 Great score that and that's what she
00:07:15 needed. It is the joint second best score
00:07:19 overall so far. So Guzzi will be pleased
00:07:23 with that.
00:07:27 So up next then is Lucy Hlaváková
00:07:33 from the Czech Republic.
00:07:37 Hlaváková got a 1.70 in the fence.
00:07:54 What was that problem area by the way
00:07:56 that you were pointing out to me earlier?
00:07:58 Yeah the obstacle 4 has got a straight
00:08:02 red line on the left and is all white and
00:08:06 red on the right so it's quite difficult
00:08:08 to point the center of the obstacles
00:08:10 which is the clue to get through the
00:08:14 obstacles. Gets away with a knockdown
00:08:16 there on obstacle 3. So it's tough to get
00:08:21 that line through and there is a refusal.
00:08:23 You see the horse just veering to the
00:08:25 right. It's effectively staying up not
00:08:28 doing that. So Hlaváková will have another
00:08:33 go. You can have two refusals and there
00:08:35 it is the second refusal. She can now go
00:08:37 around the obstacle but that is 27 points
00:08:39 off of her score and this is now a
00:08:41 difficult section. Well it continues because
00:08:44 5 is obviously a difficult part as well.
00:08:47 That's another knockdown into 7.
00:08:54 And she's unfortunately I think going to
00:08:59 be eliminated.
00:09:02 So the three refusals there. Blanka Bauer
00:09:19 is next on to the course.
00:09:24 You mentioned that Hungarian team also is a very
00:09:27 strong team and Bauer is having a good
00:09:31 year. Yeah she's having a great year. I
00:09:33 mean this is her first season on the
00:09:36 senior circuits and she's made a couple
00:09:41 of finals. Sofia, Budapest and Cairo. In
00:09:44 fact that's three finals that Blanka Bauer
00:09:46 has made. She's got a work cut out to try
00:09:48 and get into the final. She's a good laser
00:09:50 on it. A clear ride here would definitely
00:09:53 boost her chances. That's not going to
00:09:55 happen though. She's knocked down obstacle
00:09:56 three.
00:09:59 She's going through the obstacles with
00:10:04 the shoulder a little bit.
00:10:07 The opposite of behind. Ahead. Ahead of the
00:10:11 horse. She needs to just stay a little bit
00:10:17 further away.
00:10:20 This is getting costly now.
00:10:24 Blanka Bauer is just looking to finish
00:10:33 off this course now. Heads towards ten.
00:10:36 And it's one last knockdown.
00:10:40 Yeah all this knockdown happens because
00:10:45 when you don't feel very comfortable with
00:10:48 the horse you want to jump and you're not
00:10:51 waiting for the jumps coming to you.
00:10:56 So you feel that probably effectively
00:11:03 ends Blanka Bauer's chance for making it
00:11:06 through to the final. But you never know.
00:11:08 We had seven eliminations in the
00:11:10 semi-final A. So she's finished the course
00:11:15 which is obviously the first and foremost
00:11:17 most important thing. Shintere Benkosuke.
00:11:20 Do the athletes are going into this ride a
00:11:22 little bit nervous? Yeah I think after
00:11:24 watching the semi-final A the athletes are
00:11:27 nervous because they already know the
00:11:29 horse because they saw the horse before
00:11:31 and the horse wasn't good. You're like
00:11:33 okay I need to pay attention.
00:11:38 Couple of top ten finishes for Shintere
00:11:42 Benkosuke. Ninth in Sofia, fifth in
00:11:44 Budapest. She's attacking this course
00:11:46 with speed. Wow. Really carrying a lot of
00:11:50 speed for obstacle two there.
00:11:53 Makes it over three.
00:12:02 And once again an athlete being caught
00:12:05 out by 5A.
00:12:08 A very sharp turn to go in the sixth one.
00:12:13 Sometimes it's good for the time but
00:12:15 it's risky for the knockdown.
00:12:19 She looks pretty good on this horse.
00:12:24 Yeah she's riding good. She's riding good.
00:12:27 Over towards ten. Slow into ten. She needs
00:12:31 to get a little bit of speed there and
00:12:32 it's a solid finish. It's a 2.86.
00:12:37 Great score for her. Keep saying that
00:12:47 she's a very strong lateral. Probably one
00:12:49 of the best in the world. Now this is
00:12:52 the last one.
00:12:54 Probably one of the best in the world.
00:12:57 Now there is never really an advantage
00:12:59 of riding. The idea is you have 20 minutes
00:13:02 to familiarize yourself with local horses.
00:13:04 But if you are a local chances are you've
00:13:06 ridden horses before and Ilka Rzuczel
00:13:08 resides here in Ankara.
00:13:11 And well, potentially know this horse.
00:13:15 Yeah, potentially she knows the horse and
00:13:17 I think it's nice competing in your own
00:13:20 country. Yeah, I can see that
00:13:23 there is all her family here.
00:13:27 And it's a little bit of pressure but
00:13:31 try and come.
00:13:34 So Rzuczel heading towards three and
00:13:39 knocks down three.
00:13:42 So here we go. 5A and B clears A.
00:13:49 Carries a nice bit of pace through 5B.
00:13:51 Over towards 6 now.
00:13:53 Nicely done.
00:13:56 And just has to correct herself through 7 as
00:13:58 well not to get knocked down there.
00:14:01 Sweeping turn towards 8.
00:14:04 Carries a bit of speed through 8. 9A and
00:14:06 B now. This is a nice ride here from Rzuczel.
00:14:09 She has to, oh, really has to hold back
00:14:12 there. Still has that one obstacle to go.
00:14:17 Just about got away with it. Carried so
00:14:19 much speed out of 9A and that's in the
00:14:22 end a very good score from Rzuczel and
00:14:24 puts her in a good position. But, oof,
00:14:26 nervy moment there, wasn't it? Yeah, very
00:14:28 nervy because if she fell from the horse
00:14:31 was eliminate. So, yeah, well done to Wilke.
00:14:35 Yeah, she's kept her nerve and kept her
00:14:37 cool and well done. So Mingyu Zhang is
00:14:43 next up on the course.
00:14:47 Mingyu Zhang, 7th in Budapest this year.
00:14:57 Best results in the World Cup. Carries a
00:15:01 bit of form. I think we saw this horse
00:15:06 before that wasn't that great. So hopefully
00:15:11 experienced Sazhlin can manage that better.
00:15:15 It says on the scores that she's had
00:15:18 one refusal. I missed that. So that's one
00:15:21 refusal there for Zhang. So she's now got
00:15:25 her work cut out.
00:15:28 If the horse had a bad riding before
00:15:36 it still remembered that course. So that's
00:15:39 probably why that refusal in the first
00:15:42 one. She looks balanced with the reins
00:15:47 and the saddle. She's relaxed into this
00:15:50 hasn't she after that initial refusal.
00:15:52 Time-wise she's lost a bit of time, isn't
00:15:55 she? So I think we will see this going
00:15:57 over the allocated time period in a few
00:15:59 moments time you'll see those points
00:16:01 start to tumble but she's actually been
00:16:04 a very clean ride and had it not been
00:16:06 for that initial refusal we could have
00:16:08 been looking at a perfect score here. So
00:16:10 we're losing seconds here and as a
00:16:13 consequence one last knock down at the
00:16:15 end an obstacle. 10, 26 points off her
00:16:19 score. It's really harsh score that in
00:16:22 the end isn't it because it was actually
00:16:23 a nice ride. Yeah it was a nice ride. The
00:16:27 first obstacle as I said probably because
00:16:29 the horse was scary from the first turn.
00:16:36 So Anna Jerts is next. Swiss athlete.
00:16:44 Anna Jerts was fifth in the 2021/24
00:16:53 European Championships, fourth in the
00:16:56 Junior European Championships a year
00:16:58 later. How's she going to get on today?
00:17:01 Over towards three and knocked down
00:17:03 through. We've seen a few athletes get
00:17:04 caught out by three.
00:17:06 Gorizontal being one of them. Gets low
00:17:09 through four.
00:17:12 She's helping now with the reins. She's
00:17:15 helping more the horse. Probably she was
00:17:17 too strong in her in his mount.
00:17:21 We're six and seven.
00:17:25 It's going well so far. It's just those
00:17:27 two knock downs.
00:17:30 Through 9a and 9b. A lot of athletes
00:17:34 carrying quite a bit of speed through 9b
00:17:35 which you have to do and she's done well
00:17:37 to pull out of that. It's a very quick
00:17:38 ride actually. Straight forward towards
00:17:40 10. Corner board knocked down here. Doesn't
00:17:41 get one. And it's a solid 2.86 from Anna
00:17:44 Jerts.
00:17:47 Well riding is very much seeming like a
00:17:53 big discipline in this competition isn't
00:17:56 it?
00:17:57 Yeah, riding is the sport that makes it
00:18:00 different if you are in the competition
00:18:02 or not.
00:18:03 Yep.
00:18:06 So Catherine, Maira and Oliver. The older
00:18:11 of the two Oliver sisters. In fact no,
00:18:13 sorry, it's Ipec and Axin. That's strange. I
00:18:16 wonder what's happened to Catherine, Maira
00:18:18 and Oliver. She
00:18:20 in theory should have been next on our
00:18:22 timesheets here. Maybe they've switched
00:18:23 around.
00:18:25 Yeah, we've just had confirmation that
00:18:27 she is the next one. So it is local
00:18:30 athletes Ipec, Axin the highest ranked
00:18:32 Turkish athlete is in ninth place. So
00:18:35 this is, well she's in joint ninth place.
00:18:37 So this is the spot they're all going to
00:18:39 be aiming to get into.
00:18:43 Axin's riding well so far. She's cleared
00:18:47 the tricky part of the course.
00:18:49 And over seven. Are we about to see only
00:18:51 our second perfect score of the day?
00:18:54 9a and b. How much speed will she carry
00:18:58 through b? Perfect. So this one more for
00:19:03 our second perfect score of the day.
00:19:05 That's taking into account semifinal a
00:19:07 as well. She's cleared it and it's a
00:19:09 perfect 300 for Ipec, Axin. Brilliant
00:19:13 ride and that could go a long way
00:19:15 towards securing Axin's routes to
00:19:19 Super Saturday's Grand Final World Cup
00:19:22 Final is up and running and athletes are
00:19:26 trying to get inside that top nine to
00:19:28 qualify for the final on Saturday.
00:19:30 Axin in a good position. So there is
00:19:33 Catherine Mayra and Oliver.
00:19:37 Sorry, she's the younger of the Oliver
00:19:43 sisters I mentioned she was the older
00:19:45 Pan American Junior Champion 2022.
00:19:48 Third in mixed relay in Budapest.
00:19:51 World Cup.
00:19:54 Mexican athletes seem to have a very
00:19:58 good track record in mixed relay. Yeah,
00:20:00 they they're doing great results in mixed
00:20:05 relay. You have to say that Mexican
00:20:08 athletes have been away from home. I
00:20:10 think for four months all the season.
00:20:12 Yeah, it's going to be tough isn't it? Yeah, it's
00:20:15 very tough.
00:20:18 But this look.
00:20:21 Oh my goodness me.
00:20:25 So.
00:20:27 She's okay. She fell heavily. She's okay.
00:20:29 She's straight back up on her feet.
00:20:32 That's an unfortunate fall that.
00:20:35 Thankfully she's okay.
00:20:39 Yeah, she fell heavily but luckily
00:20:42 didn't fall awkwardly. Someone needs to
00:20:44 take a hold of that horse's reins.
00:20:48 Now the horse will do just a few loops.
00:20:53 She landed pretty good. She did land well.
00:21:01 And the horse was, usually the horse when
00:21:03 you fell they try to not
00:21:06 hit you. Yeah. Try to avoid you.
00:21:12 So there we go. The horse has been
00:21:18 brought back under control. The athlete
00:21:21 will be shocked but she's okay. Once again
00:21:24 an athlete being caught out by
00:21:27 5A and B. It was 5B where she
00:21:31 lost control. She lost her balance. Yeah.
00:21:35 She didn't follow the horse.
00:21:38 So that's in a very, in two times that you
00:21:42 have in two turns. Could have been a nasty
00:21:44 fall that though couldn't it? She's
00:21:46 thankfully okay.
00:21:50 Yeah, you were saying she lost her balance there.
00:21:55 Yeah.
00:21:57 So Olivia Green is next on to the course.
00:22:03 Ninth in World Cup Final last year. Eighth in Budapest
00:22:09 last year. Olivia Green looking to
00:22:13 make it top ten World Cup Final results
00:22:16 in consecutive years. Off we go. A clear.
00:22:19 A little bit of a hesitation by the horse
00:22:22 heading into the second obstacle.
00:22:25 Horse is looking a little bit like it's
00:22:28 warming up. A little bit of a
00:22:31 hesitation by the horse heading into the
00:22:34 second obstacle. Horse is looking a little bit like
00:22:36 it's warming up. A little bit of a
00:22:39 Olivia is doing really well here actually I
00:22:41 think to get the horse going. Yeah, it's a difficult
00:22:44 horse as we can see. Yeah, you can tell.
00:22:47 Over 4 here we go. Tricky 5A and 5B.
00:22:51 Clears A and B.
00:22:55 Sweeps round towards 6.
00:23:00 This is really, really world-class riding
00:23:03 here from Olivia Green.
00:23:06 Under difficult conditions.
00:23:09 Are we going to see. Is it going to be a
00:23:12 perfect score? Another perfect score here.
00:23:14 It would be only the second of this
00:23:15 semi-final. Only the third of the day.
00:23:17 Olivia Green heads towards obstacle 10
00:23:20 and it's a knockdown. But she won't mind
00:23:22 too much because that was a very, very
00:23:24 impressive 293.
00:23:28 She'll be frustrated, don't get me wrong,
00:23:29 not to get the perfect score. Yeah, probably
00:23:31 I would be more worried about Gepino
00:23:33 comment.
00:23:35 I know that she's a strong
00:23:38 woman when they make mistakes.
00:23:43 So two-time Olympic medalist, gold
00:23:46 medalist in London,
00:23:48 silver medalist in Tokyo,
00:23:51 Laura Astarskyte
00:23:53 is
00:23:55 one of the most experienced athletes in
00:23:58 the sports history.
00:24:00 And here we go competing in yet another
00:24:02 World Cup final.
00:24:05 Looking to make it through to Saturday's
00:24:07 final.
00:24:09 Semi-finals here of course
00:24:12 today.
00:24:13 No medals won or lost. It's all about
00:24:15 getting inside that top nine.
00:24:20 Over towards 5A and 5B.
00:24:22 Ooh, gets away with 5A there. Skimmed it
00:24:25 but it didn't knock down.
00:24:32 Six taken down then. So that's seven points
00:24:34 off her score. It's becoming very, very
00:24:36 rare to see
00:24:38 a perfect score.
00:24:45 Over towards...
00:24:48 Oh, she came inside the turn.
00:24:50 Interesting, yes. That's the first time we've
00:24:52 seen that.
00:24:53 It's almost a bit, it's almost very, well
00:24:56 it's just impressive isn't it? She cut inside
00:24:58 the trees.
00:25:00 And we were before, it was very, very tight.
00:25:02 Yeah, she didn't need to make up the time
00:25:04 either. So fair play. 2.93 for
00:25:06 Laura Astarskyte.
00:25:13 That is a solid, solid score. Up next is
00:25:16 Malakishmail.
00:25:28 So Malakishmail inside the top six now.
00:25:34 Ahead of our reigning world champion
00:25:36 Lena McKellie who'll come up next.
00:25:43 A very quick horse.
00:25:46 Likes to be ridden fast.
00:25:51 So far so good for the young Egyptian.
00:25:59 Malakishmail was 12th in the World Cup
00:26:01 final last year at the same events.
00:26:06 Oh dear.
00:26:10 So.
00:26:14 Yeah, looks like a horse that he wants
00:26:16 to run, to go fast.
00:26:20 And she's controlling a little bit.
00:26:23 Second refusal. Yeah.
00:26:26 Really gonna need to try to get the horse
00:26:29 under control now. She's got to get over
00:26:31 six now. She can't afford another refusal.
00:26:34 Knocked down and through six.
00:26:37 So it's damage limitation now, isn't it? Get
00:26:40 round and you've still got half a chance.
00:26:43 It's costly.
00:26:45 Very costly for Malak now, but she's
00:26:48 getting the job done. One still to go.
00:26:50 Finish stuff cleanly and you just never
00:26:52 know.
00:26:53 Malakishmail heading towards obstacle ten
00:26:56 and gets through it. Well done.
00:26:59 But that has been an expensive ride.
00:27:02 Four side points. So that's a 2-5-1.
00:27:05 Yeah, drop held right now just in the 13th
00:27:08 place. Yeah.
00:27:10 Quite a bit off those top nine positions
00:27:12 now. So Malak dropping from sixth down to
00:27:19 13th place.
00:27:22 We have Elena that unfortunately last
00:27:24 World Cup was in her birthday, was an
00:27:28 elimination.
00:27:31 So hopefully this one will be better.
00:27:46 So
00:27:48 up next, Elena Micheli
00:27:51 as mentioned had a bit of trouble on her
00:27:53 birthday in Budapest.
00:27:55 But just about gets away with a knockdown
00:27:57 in 2-2.
00:28:03 We've only seen one clear round in both
00:28:06 semifinals.
00:28:08 This one came from Pechaksin.
00:28:11 Micheli struggling a little bit here.
00:28:13 She does well to get the horse back
00:28:15 under control.
00:28:18 Struggles to keep control of the reins,
00:28:20 but so far it's actually a pretty good
00:28:22 score this from Micheli who is
00:28:24 getting her way around.
00:28:29 She's getting the job done. Whatever way
00:28:31 you look at it, it's not the cleanest of
00:28:32 rides, but she's only got one knockdown
00:28:34 so far in 2-9-A and B.
00:28:36 One to go for Micheli for a very
00:28:38 impressive 2-9-3.
00:28:40 Straight ride into the Oxford of 10.
00:28:44 Well done Elena Micheli.
00:28:46 A sigh of relief from her teammate Reni
00:28:49 Pampellini.
00:28:51 I was taking my breath.
00:28:54 That was a nervy ride to watch no matter
00:28:56 who, which country you're following.
00:28:58 I would have been so disappointed.
00:29:00 I mean she's a very strong athlete and
00:29:02 she had an amazing fencing.
00:29:12 Song Min Song is next.
00:29:16 She is the only Korean athlete in
00:29:18 semi-final B.
00:29:21 Sung Woo Kim withdrew from semi-final A.
00:29:24 Seehee Kim.
00:29:27 Made it through to the final so off we go.
00:29:30 Song Min Song with a bit of a rough
00:29:32 landing on the first obstacle.
00:29:37 Yeah, well it depends how you arrive in
00:29:39 the first obstacles and depends also what
00:29:42 your coach is telling you.
00:29:44 If you want more gallop or if you want
00:29:46 to arrive a little bit slower.
00:29:52 It's clean so far through a difficult 5A and 5B.
00:29:59 Tricky 6 coming up.
00:30:01 Oh dear, there's a refusal.
00:30:04 She has to take quite a long route around now.
00:30:05 She's losing precious time.
00:30:09 For a second it looked like she might have another
00:30:10 go at 5A then which would have been an elimination.
00:30:12 Living on the edge here.
00:30:16 Song Min Song and does get over 6.
00:30:17 A good recovery and 7.
00:30:20 So it's now a race against the clock.
00:30:24 Also need to make sure she doesn't make
00:30:26 any more mistakes.
00:30:27 Into 9A and 9B.
00:30:29 Over A and B.
00:30:31 One obstacle to go.
00:30:33 This is where that shortcut that we saw
00:30:35 Lauras Daskati take would have helped.
00:30:37 Would have made up a little bit of time.
00:30:38 I think this is going to be okay though.
00:30:40 Just about gets over.
00:30:42 Was a big jump the last one.
00:30:44 A 2.77 for Song Min Song.
00:30:49 Which has dropped her down to 7th place.
00:30:51 But that's okay.
00:30:52 It's all about getting into the final.
00:30:54 She's got through a difficult ride there.
00:30:57 Done so with a reasonable score.
00:30:59 That was a great start as well.
00:31:23 Hopefully I'll be waking up for her.
00:31:30 She's coming to the third one.
00:31:43 Clear.
00:31:46 She's coming to the tricky sixth one.
00:31:50 Nicely done.
00:31:53 So Kranjkaber.
00:31:55 Obviously inside the top three as things stand.
00:31:58 It's looking like a very good competition.
00:32:01 Oh my god.
00:32:03 Well, it is somehow just a knockdown.
00:32:08 I think.
00:32:09 Or was that? No that.
00:32:10 It's a refusal and knockdown.
00:32:12 So you have to wait for the volunteer to rebuild the course.
00:32:17 And then you wait the bell.
00:32:19 You heard the bell being rung.
00:32:20 And that means that they are pausing to repair the course.
00:32:24 I want to say well done to her to stay on the horse.
00:32:26 She held on for dear life.
00:32:28 If you're off the horse then it is an elimination.
00:32:30 So Kranjkaber still in fourth place.
00:32:32 The bell has gone again.
00:32:33 Time wise she will lose some time here.
00:32:36 But it's just about making sure she can get this finished now.
00:32:40 In fourth place.
00:32:42 Does get over eventually.
00:32:45 So eight proving to be tricky for Kranjkaber.
00:32:51 Over towards ten.
00:32:52 Final obstacle.
00:32:55 She's cleared that.
00:32:56 So 25 points off the score.
00:32:58 It's a 2.75.
00:32:59 It's not a complete catastrophe by any means.
00:33:03 No I mean this riding is better than the previous one.
00:33:08 Yeah, well we had seven eliminations didn't we in the previous round.
00:33:13 Horses chill out a bit.
00:33:15 Just two so far from Lucy Klavankova and Catherine Warren Oliver.
00:33:21 Into the top two Rebecca Lange.
00:33:24 Picked up her first World Cup medal, a silver medal.
00:33:28 Already this season.
00:33:32 Strong fencer, solid fencer.
00:33:37 Left-handed.
00:33:40 Here we go then Rebecca Lange.
00:33:43 It's been a very good year for Rebecca.
00:33:45 And off we go.
00:33:46 Clears the first two obstacles off to a good start.
00:33:51 In second place overall.
00:33:52 Can afford to have a couple of knockdowns and still hold on to
00:33:58 a decent position heading into the fencing.
00:34:06 Here we go then this tricky part of the course.
00:34:10 Rebecca Lange makes it look easy so far.
00:34:13 Towards six it can come unstuck very quickly this ride.
00:34:16 Lange is riding well here.
00:34:18 Nicely done.
00:34:21 Gets away with seven.
00:34:22 Doesn't look back to see if it fell down.
00:34:26 This is really good stuff here.
00:34:28 I'm about to see our second perfect score.
00:34:30 Lange on track for a perfect 300.
00:34:34 Over towards obstacle ten.
00:34:36 Rebecca Lange of Germany has nailed that course.
00:34:40 Perfect score of 300.
00:34:42 That is how you do it.
00:34:44 Rebecca Lange can hold her head up high.
00:34:48 Looking almost emotional.
00:34:49 Brilliant ride that from Lange.
00:34:53 Yeah, very solid rider.
00:34:55 Riding from her.
00:35:10 Heidi Morsey.
00:35:12 I spoke before with Jasser and she was a little bit intense
00:35:17 because her teammate had the same horse before.
00:35:20 Oh, and there is a refusal into obstacle two.
00:35:26 So Heidi Morsey is currently top of the pile.
00:35:29 Needs to recover here.
00:35:35 Might as well harden your mouth moment if you are an Egyptian
00:35:37 Pentathlon fan.
00:35:38 It's 17 points with the first two obstacles and time lost as well.
00:35:42 And there is another refusal and Heidi Morsey is in all sorts of
00:35:46 trouble here.
00:35:48 Yeah.
00:35:50 And the horses kicked down.
00:35:55 I think the horse knocked down a part of the obstacle.
00:36:00 Yeah.
00:36:02 Of the fence.
00:36:03 They told me to say fence.
00:36:05 Fence.
00:36:06 No obstacle.
00:36:07 OK.
00:36:11 Over towards fence three.
00:36:13 And it is the final refusal for Heidi Morsey and just like that
00:36:19 sadly her competition has come to an end.
00:36:24 It's been a very unlucky year for Heidi in terms of riding.
00:36:37 So that concludes the riding discipline.
00:36:40 It ends, a little bit of a flat note, our leader with an elimination.
00:36:43 Heidi Morsey in a very good position but quite a few sad looking
00:36:49 Egyptians walking around the course.
00:36:51 Rebecca Lange though leads the way.
00:36:53 There are your scores.
00:36:54 She's 12 points ahead of world champion Elena McKellie.
00:36:57 Epek Aksens moved up to third place.
00:36:59 Laura Astell-Skaty.
00:37:00 Let's have a look at ninth place though.
00:37:02 Anna Gerdt on 496.
00:37:03 Remember she got that 286 in the ride.
00:37:05 How far ahead is she of tenth place?
00:37:08 Well there you can see it's a bit of a gap isn't it?
00:37:11 So top nine are on their own little world at the moment.
00:37:14 Jessica Valli did not start this competition.
00:37:16 So the ninth place has got I think 20 seconds from the 11th.
00:37:20 That is Venka Skyder.
00:37:22 Yeah.
00:37:23 Venka Skyder is a quick runner as well.
00:37:25 So I wonder if she'll put pressure on in a moment's time.
00:37:28 Let's take a look back at the highlights from the riding.
00:37:32 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:37:35 OK.
00:37:58 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:38:01 OK.
00:38:09 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:38:12 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:38:40 That's concluding the riding for today.
00:38:43 Semi-final and semi-final riding is done.
00:38:46 And now we are ready for the fencing bonus round.
00:38:52 We move to the piste where one victory is two extra points.
00:39:01 And we can see now we start from the bottom with Blanca Guzzi.
00:39:09 She had an amazing riding.
00:39:11 She had 293 points.
00:39:15 So all the eyes on this competition.
00:39:20 We can see now the athletes warming up
00:39:27 and be ready for this event.
00:39:33 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:39:37 Weather is helping us.
00:39:39 When it's meant to be poor rain, we have sunshine,
00:39:44 which is helpful.
00:39:45 So building up to coverage end of the fencing bonus rounds.
00:39:58 It's usually a five-minute gap between the disciplines.
00:40:06 The riding and, of course, the fencing.
00:40:10 Then the fencing to the swimming is a 10-minute gap.
00:40:14 That one generally feels the longest, actually,
00:40:17 as they get everything in place.
00:40:19 This competition absolutely flies by, though.
00:40:21 90 minutes for these five disciplines.
00:40:24 So we've just been told we have another five minutes.
00:40:26 So it's actually a little bit longer than we anticipated.
00:40:31 Yeah.
00:40:32 Unfortunately, riding ends up with an elimination for Heidi
00:40:36 Morrissette, who was in the lead.
00:40:38 Yes.
00:40:39 But it's all experience that you can get and looking forward
00:40:43 for the next competition.
00:40:44 Catherine Mare and Oliver, of course,
00:40:52 was eliminated from the ride as well.
00:40:54 But we're happy to see that she's fine after the fall.
00:40:58 So our first fencing bonus round bout will be
00:41:02 Flankagoozie versus Lucy Klovak-Kovac,
00:41:05 because Jessica Barley has withdrawn from the competition.
00:41:09 It's a back injury.
00:41:11 So we wish Jess the best of luck and a quick recovery.
00:41:16 We'll look at the live scores on the UIPM app,
00:41:21 which is available on the UIPM app.
00:41:24 It's just opened up.
00:41:28 Yeah.
00:41:29 I wanted to see Blanca with 293 points in riding hours.
00:41:33 She came up.
00:41:34 She's in the 13th place.
00:41:40 Oh, yeah.
00:41:41 Flankagoozie has shot up the scoreboards, hasn't she?
00:41:44 Yeah.
00:41:45 Flankagoozie has gone from 17th to 6th place.
00:41:49 That is a huge rise.
00:41:51 The rankings.
00:41:54 The 293 is a very, very good score.
00:41:56 And you can actually see from the scores that it is the
00:42:00 athletes who have scored best in the riding,
00:42:04 who have positioned themselves so well.
00:42:06 It's all mixed up, hasn't it?
00:42:08 Rebecca Langeau is in a strong position.
00:42:11 Yeah, she's in first place on 510 points.
00:42:15 But yeah, the actually,
00:42:19 usually very reliable UIPM app has not quite got the rankings
00:42:23 the right way.
00:42:24 But it's still a very good app and great for live up-to-date
00:42:28 scores.
00:42:29 Milka Izutsu just taking her time.
00:42:41 Izutsu has now 498 points, which has put her up the
00:42:46 ranking.
00:42:49 Flankagoozie then will be the first athlete out.
00:43:03 And she has not actually moved up to 6th place.
00:43:06 So ignore what we said about that because those scores.
00:43:09 13th place.
00:43:10 It's up to 13th place.
00:43:11 So those scores are a bit of a mess.
00:43:15 But the scoreboards on the UIPM app have sadly let us down.
00:43:21 We wanted to bring you the standings,
00:43:23 but we don't actually have them at this current point.
00:43:25 But what you will see is during the fencing bonus rounds,
00:43:30 the live scores as the athletes look to move up.
00:43:34 Yeah, as we said, one victory is two extra points and multiple
00:43:38 victories can make a difference.
00:43:42 On guard.
00:43:45 And I flash.
00:43:46 Who won that bout, do you think, between us?
00:43:52 I'd say it's double touch.
00:43:55 Probably double touch.
00:43:57 Both committed to the flash, didn't we?
00:44:01 You were ready.
00:44:03 I was ready for it.
00:44:05 It was like the 14th take, wasn't it?
00:44:08 I think I nearly kill you.
00:44:11 A couple of times.
00:44:12 You were nearly blind.
00:44:13 Yeah, well, you nearly pushed me in the pool.
00:44:15 If you're wondering what we're talking about,
00:44:17 we did a little preview piece ahead of this semifinals day.
00:44:24 It's on the UIPM social media sites.
00:44:27 It has a lot of the great content filmed over the course of this
00:44:30 competition.
00:44:31 Make sure to follow UIPM on various social media sites.
00:44:36 Still waiting for the UIPM TikTok page.
00:44:39 That could be interesting.
00:44:41 Waiting for the first ever viral UIPM clip.
00:44:45 Elena McKellie is twizzling her hair there,
00:44:50 looking a little bit nervous.
00:44:52 No, no, no, I stop you here.
00:44:54 She's not nervous when she does that.
00:44:56 That's the most intense hair twizzling I've seen in a long time.
00:44:59 She's always twisting her hair.
00:45:00 She's always twisting her hair.
00:45:01 Yeah, it's something that relaxes her.
00:45:03 It's like stroking a teddy bear.
00:45:11 Okay, we've got some competition to break up the feeling.
00:45:15 Yeah, we are ready.
00:45:18 First up, Blanka Guzzi versus Lucy Kloverakova.
00:45:23 It's good to see Blanka with a smile on her face.
00:45:26 Well, I saw Blanka earlier, just before the competition,
00:45:28 and she had a big smile on her face.
00:45:30 I said, "You're always smiling."
00:45:31 She goes, "Yeah, I'm happy."
00:45:32 I said, "You always seem happy."
00:45:33 She goes, "I'm not always happy."
00:45:34 But she is one of those athletes that does seem to really enjoy what she does.
00:45:38 She's had a great year.
00:45:39 She took gold in Budapest.
00:45:41 Yeah, I mean, in this competition,
00:45:45 just the first one will have the card for the Olympic Games.
00:45:50 And the most important is in two weeks, the European Games.
00:45:53 So that's all the experience.
00:45:57 Blanka Guzzi versus Kloverakova.
00:46:04 Guzzi with 165 points from the ranking rounds,
00:46:07 and adds two extra points to her score.
00:46:09 One fencing bonus round victory for Guzzi.
00:46:17 I wonder if we'll see a run of results in this fencing bonus round.
00:46:25 We say second parade and a flash.
00:46:29 But I don't know if in other countries it's different.
00:46:32 I know that we have different names for the parade.
00:46:39 Blanka Bauer up next.
00:46:44 I like the pink cushion.
00:47:01 So it is an all-Hungarian bout here.
00:47:06 Bauer versus Guzzi.
00:47:09 Guzzi with one victory to her name.
00:47:12 Bauer, younger of the two athletes.
00:47:15 Guzzi is still a very young athlete, but more experienced of the two.
00:47:22 15 seconds left in this bounce.
00:47:25 Bauer with the priority.
00:47:28 And Bauer with the victory.
00:47:32 Stung like a bumblebee.
00:47:37 She's looking at course like, "Hi, Tatsu. I'm happy."
00:47:41 I don't know how.
00:47:43 How was it good, Tatsu?
00:47:56 Next one.
00:48:01 For her, now, every single point counts,
00:48:04 because we know, everybody knows that she is a very strong lateral.
00:48:13 Two extra points would be good for her.
00:48:16 Vankovskaya could use those extra points, couldn't she?
00:48:19 She's knocking on the door of those top nine.
00:48:26 Blanka Bauer with that extra win to her name.
00:48:30 Vankovskaya with the priority.
00:48:33 Blanka Bauer does get another touch.
00:48:40 So it's two victories now for the Hungarian.
00:48:58 So it is Ilkka Iziksel.
00:49:03 Blanka Bauer wants to put that dodgy ride behind her and
00:49:06 try and focus now on getting a good little run here.
00:49:18 And so it's four points now for Bauer.
00:49:24 Iziksel had a pretty good ride.
00:49:29 And a flash forward from Iziksel means she picks up her first two points,
00:49:34 her first victory.
00:49:39 And Iziksel moves up to eighth place in those live scoreboards.
00:49:43 You can see the gap then between Giertz and Zhang on your screens there.
00:49:53 I think when you are in the piece in the bonus round in front of everybody,
00:50:03 when you touch it and scream it's like "I did it!"
00:50:07 It's a release, isn't it?
00:50:08 Yeah, it's a release.
00:50:13 I think I've got more pressure in the bonus round than in the public ranking one.
00:50:22 Yeah, I know what you mean. All eyes are on you.
00:50:27 So, all eyes on Zhang who's looking to climb up the rankings.
00:50:34 Iziksel with that one victory to her name.
00:50:38 Oh blimey, that is another victory for Iziksel.
00:50:43 She's going well here, two victories now.
00:50:47 Yeah, four extra points for her in front of all the people here.
00:51:09 So, up next it is Anna Giertz.
00:51:17 She's having a quick gander at her opponent before pulling her protective face mask down.
00:51:29 So, Giertz versus Iziksel. Iziksel with those two victories to her name so far.
00:51:47 Iziksel trying to make it three but Giertz is there.
00:51:52 That's when you have the chance to wait now because she's got the priority.
00:52:03 So, she just waits for Ilke to come in and she rests on her arm.
00:52:11 As we can see now, yeah, shoulder.
00:52:19 So, Iziksel has to settle for the two victories.
00:52:25 Careful of Mara and Oliver.
00:52:34 So, Anna Giertz versus Ipak Aksin. Aksin has such a good ride, a perfect score.
00:52:40 One of just two athletes to get that perfect score.
00:52:43 Giertz tries to get down low. Aksin's ready with the bright blue protective mask.
00:52:49 Again, Giertz tries to get down low but...
00:52:51 Yeah, it's a very risky touch to go two times in the same spot because the opposite that you have Oliver,
00:53:05 she knew that she was going on the floor again.
00:53:08 So, something that you have to be a little bit careful.
00:53:12 Aksin going very well here in a home event here in Turkey.
00:53:18 Sorry, I said Oliver but it was the sister.
00:53:23 And then you welcome our next athlete, the 29th generation now representing Turkey,
00:53:29 welcome to the team, Ipek Aksin.
00:53:32 Our player on the left, representing the Hague priority, Oliver.
00:53:37 One go.
00:53:39 Three.
00:53:41 Go.
00:53:43 So, Catherine Mara and Oliver versus Ipak Aksin and Aksin.
00:53:49 Just goes, thank you, I will take that touch.
00:53:52 Have you seen that touch?
00:53:54 It looked like it was on the wrist.
00:53:55 It was very quick.
00:53:57 Very cheeky.
00:54:01 I have a little replay of that.
00:54:03 It's too quick even for our replay.
00:54:11 It's hard to see that one, isn't it?
00:54:12 Yeah, it's very hard.
00:54:17 So, well done to Ipak, Olivia Green with that 2.93 in the riding.
00:54:24 She has put herself in a great position.
00:54:26 It was a really solid ride because she was struggling with the horse, you remember.
00:54:29 Yeah, she rode very, very well.
00:54:35 Ipak Aksin versus Olivia Green.
00:54:39 Olivia Green with a 2.10 in the fencing bonus round.
00:54:50 So, Aksin makes it two victories.
00:54:56 And we're inside the top seven now.
00:54:58 Laura Asdasgaiti up next.
00:55:26 Here we go then.
00:55:27 Back underway.
00:55:29 Aksin trying to get past the two times Olympic medalist, gold and silver medalist, Laura Asdasgaiti.
00:55:36 And Asdasgaiti returns the favour to Aksin.
00:55:39 A similar touch to Aksin's first touch.
00:55:49 Yeah, it looks like easy when you get in the piece and you have the priority just waiting and hit when you can.
00:56:10 So, we are in the top six. Malakishmau who dropped right down after the riding.
00:56:29 So, Malakishmau versus Laura Asdasgaiti.
00:56:34 Asdasgaiti with that one win. Doubles her money. It's two victories for the Lithuanian.
00:57:03 So, Elena Micheli is out next.
00:57:13 And there we go with another quick hit. We're seeing some quick bells here.
00:57:18 In nearly one second. I don't know if we can have the replay for that.
00:57:26 Micheli stopped fiddling with her hair for a moment to win a fencing bonus round bells.
00:57:31 Let's have a look. It was in their shoulder I think, wasn't it?
00:57:35 Yeah.
00:57:38 Great stuff from Micheli there. Asdasgaiti wasn't quite ready for that.
00:57:45 So, Xiong Mengxiong was fourth in the ranking rounds.
00:57:49 She got a 2.77 in the ride.
00:58:01 20 left on the clock.
00:58:06 Into the final 15.
00:58:09 Oh, and Xiong gets a touch. I think Micheli thought she'd had it for a second there.
00:58:13 Yeah, she started the launch too early.
00:58:21 She had to wait a little bit more.
00:58:26 The Korean was a short distance and was quick to hit her.
00:58:35 We're coming to the top three.
00:58:41 Yeah, we're into the top three.
00:58:46 Karolina Krenkova got a 2.75 in the ride.
00:58:49 Which normally would have been not a good score, but actually in the context of this competition it's not too bad.
00:58:56 No, it's not too bad.
00:59:02 Karolina Krenkova versus Xiong Mengxiong who has that one victory to her name.
00:59:08 Krenkova.
00:59:21 Getting a little bit spicy there.
00:59:32 15 left on the clock.
00:59:36 Yeah, you know when you have a French grip it's not easy to parry when they're coming to you.
00:59:46 You just want to hit like a coupé or a rest.
00:59:52 So Xiong gets another victory.
01:00:02 We're inside the top two now. It is Rebecca Langerau next who scored that perfect 300.
01:00:09 Silver medalist here in Ankara a few, well it was a couple of months ago now wasn't it? Time flies though.
01:00:18 It was April.
01:00:20 So just over a month ago.
01:00:27 This event will take us into the start of June.
01:00:41 So here we go.
01:00:43 Rebecca Langer versus Xiong Mengxiong. Xiong Mengxiong with two victories to her name.
01:00:50 She's the more aggressive of the two fencers and it pays off in nine seconds. She's picked up a third victory.
01:00:56 So we'll see what useful points this is for Xiong Mengxiong when you add those extra six points to her riding score.
01:01:01 Would have boosted her to a 283.
01:01:04 So these are useful points.
01:01:15 We can see the replay when the Korean just flashed on Rebecca and she's a left-hand so probably she found it a bit difficult to put up that flash.
01:01:31 You can see Ayi Morsi came a little bit disappointed from her riding.
01:01:37 Definitely.
01:01:39 Chance to pick up four extra points. Holds her head up high. Morsi eliminates from the riding.
01:01:46 Xiong Mengxiong with three victories. Make that four.
01:01:51 I mean four wins with four flashes.
01:01:54 Korean has got a very very strong and quick flash.
01:02:00 I mean I watched their training and all they've done is explosion stuff in the piece in fencing.
01:02:14 So that concludes our fencing bonus round. Rebecca Lange now ten points clear at the top.
01:02:20 Belena Micheli in second place. Xiong Mengxiong in third.
01:02:25 Ipek Aksin in fourth.
01:02:27 Looking a bit further down. Azuqsul solidly in that top eight. Anna Gert on a 498.
01:02:32 Let's see the difference between her and a bit further back. 498 is followed up by 479.
01:02:37 Mengxiong picking up a couple of extra points which really did help her cause.
01:02:42 And in fact no, Mengxiong didn't pick up any extra points.
01:02:46 So she still has work to do.
01:02:50 And then from Heidi Morsi downwards.
01:02:53 Those three were eliminated. Jessica Varley did not start.
01:02:57 She did compete in the fencing ranking round but picked up an injury.
01:03:00 Therefore chose it wise to withdraw from the competition.
01:03:05 That is the end of the fencing bonus round and we will leave you with a highlight.
01:03:09 We'll be back in a second.

01:04:01 [Music]
01:04:06 So here we are back. Live coverage from Ankara, Turkey.
01:04:11 From the IPM Pentathlon World Cup Final.
01:04:14 Let's take a look at how the competition moves from the fencing ranking rounds to the swimming pool.
01:04:19 We're progressing through things nicely.
01:04:21 The only thing not accurate about those graphics is sun in the skies.
01:04:26 Temperature is dropping. We're wondering if we're going to avoid the downpour.
01:04:30 There is the pool. 200m freestyle, 25m pool, 2 minutes 30 to get you 250 points.
01:04:35 And there it is. Warmer than it was a couple of months ago when we had the World Cup here.
01:04:41 That pool was not used. It was just too cold.
01:04:44 But the weather has not been our friend.
01:04:47 We were in Ankara for the first event of the year.
01:04:50 We then came to Ankara for the second event.
01:04:54 And that of course was probably the coldest event we've had of the season.
01:05:00 Then Budapest. And Budapest was chilly as well.
01:05:03 Guess what? Sofia was cold.
01:05:05 And then here we are back in Ankara.
01:05:07 It's not cold but the weather has not been what you'd expect in Turkey at this time of year.
01:05:14 Blanka Guzi taking on some juice.
01:05:18 I mean it's electrolyte.
01:05:20 Yeah, juice and electrolyte.
01:05:23 That is important.
01:05:25 I thought it was maybe some squash or something.
01:05:29 Electrolytes. Go on and tell us what benefits a head of swimming electrolytes will give you.
01:05:36 It's not just for swimming. It's for the old 90 minutes that we have.
01:05:40 So drinking is the only thing that you can do.
01:05:44 It depends on the athletes if they are right having some carbohydrates, gels.
01:05:51 They are a little bit heavy so probably you want to get them before swimming and running.
01:05:57 But during the day it's good having electrolytes that keep you fuel and avoid cramps in the pool.
01:06:10 So it's good to keep your body hydrated all day.
01:06:17 And in 90 minutes it's difficult to have a bite of something so fluids are important.
01:06:24 Gels as well.
01:06:26 Maybe a cheeky little protein bar as well.
01:06:28 They are heavy on the stomach so you can probably see some muscle.
01:06:33 Look at the focus on Olivia Green's face there. That is brilliant.
01:06:36 I hope we hold that shot for as long as possible.
01:06:39 The intensity in her face there.
01:06:41 Olivia Green showing us how to swim out of water.
01:06:47 I think she made a video a few weeks ago in Pentathlon GB.
01:06:53 She was telling us some tips in swimming.
01:06:57 I have been in this pool and it's a very hard pool.
01:07:05 I'm not a good swimmer but I can say it's not the easiest pool as we saw in Budapest.
01:07:12 Calling yourself not a good swimmer is a disservice to your swimming.
01:07:15 I think you are a very good swimmer.
01:07:17 Best maybe not your strongest discipline.
01:07:19 You are back in the pool again today, weren't you?
01:07:21 4km you did in the pool?
01:07:23 Yes.
01:07:24 How many lengths was that then?
01:07:26 Can you work that out?
01:07:27 I'm not good at transferring.
01:07:29 I'm not good at all.
01:07:30 That's 4000m isn't it?
01:07:32 4km is 4000m.
01:07:34 Yes, it's probably 154 lengths.
01:07:38 154 lengths?
01:07:41 Are you sure about that?
01:07:43 154, 25.
01:07:48 156 probably?
01:07:50 A lot.
01:07:51 Oh it is actually.
01:07:53 More.
01:07:54 You did more.
01:07:55 Good.
01:07:56 Wow.
01:07:57 154 lengths.
01:07:58 That's too many.
01:08:00 I think it's the average.
01:08:04 How many calories would you burn over that time?
01:08:07 Probably 600.
01:08:08 Is that all?
01:08:09 154 lengths only burns you 600 calories.
01:08:14 Yes, probably.
01:08:15 Makes you think twice doesn't it about having that extra bag of crisps which is a couple of extra 100 calories.
01:08:22 Probably sweets.
01:08:24 I'm craving for sweets right now.
01:08:26 If anyone is watching and is in the venue, you know where we are sat.
01:08:30 You only want some sweets.
01:08:34 Thank you.
01:08:35 We'll see how loyal the viewership is here in Ankara.
01:08:43 In terms of calories you'll burn over a competition day.
01:08:48 You've got a preload haven't you before you compete to enable yourself to have enough energy?
01:08:53 I think...
01:08:55 Not a big eater you are.
01:08:57 I think the good point is you keep eating what you used to eat around all year.
01:09:06 Probably the night before eating a little bit more carbs.
01:09:10 That gives you the energy and the fuel for the day after.
01:09:14 I think most of the athletes just eat the same things at home.
01:09:19 I think a lot of people would travel with various foods, wouldn't they?
01:09:24 Yes, I'm the queen of that.
01:09:26 You always seem to have a Tupperware box with some form of food in it.
01:09:32 You just pull the salad out of your bag.
01:09:34 I've got always my Parmigiano and ham and cheese from Italy.
01:09:39 Very Italian.
01:09:41 Do you travel with Parmesan?
01:09:43 Yes, all the time.
01:09:45 You travel with Parmesan.
01:09:47 I've got it here as well.
01:09:48 You've got it here?
01:09:49 Yes.
01:09:50 Let's have a look.
01:09:52 Come on, I want to see your Parmesan.
01:09:59 An Italian with a Parmesan in her handbag.
01:10:04 I think this is worth a video, by the way.
01:10:06 We are obviously filling time here on UIPM TV.
01:10:09 Head Start Swimming live on air.
01:10:12 Reni Prampolini, Italian athlete, is digging into her handbag and is pulling out some Parmesan cheese.
01:10:20 That is stereotypical Italian behavior and I'm here for it.
01:10:26 Anything else? Any other condiments?
01:10:29 No.
01:10:30 What do you use the Parmesan for?
01:10:32 Just as a snack.
01:10:33 You just eat the Parmesan? You don't sprinkle it on your apples?
01:10:37 Oh, no, please.
01:10:39 I love this.
01:10:40 Okay, so that's something new we've learned about you.
01:10:42 You never go anywhere without any Parmesan.
01:10:44 There's Flo, who's brought us these sheets.
01:10:46 He's in a rush, so we'll let him crack on.
01:10:48 Swimming start list has been delivered straight to the commentary box.
01:10:53 We can talk through which athletes are starting where.
01:10:57 Not sure quite how long we have left ahead of the start of the swimming.
01:11:01 It can't be too long now.
01:11:02 Ten minutes is the allocated time between the fencing and the swimming.
01:11:07 We can't see.
01:11:15 Okay.
01:11:16 We can say thank you to all the judges and the volunteers that are helping us.
01:11:24 Yeah, the volunteers and judges, without them, this competition would not run as smoothly as it does.
01:11:31 Do you ever bring pre-cooked meals with you to events?
01:11:37 No.
01:11:38 Never brought a lasagna with you in the airplane?
01:11:41 From Grandma, no.
01:11:43 No.
01:11:44 If we had a bit more time, I'd ask you for a lasagna recipe.
01:11:48 But it looks like we're about to get back underway with the competition.
01:11:53 The judges make their way poolside.
01:11:57 Jump the gun a little bit there.
01:12:06 You ever made an aubergine lasagna before?
01:12:11 Instead of having a pasta ciccia of aubergine?
01:12:14 Yeah, I learned that kind of lasagna, as we can say lasagna, from Jamie's dad.
01:12:22 Oh, okay.
01:12:23 And sweet potatoes as well.
01:12:25 Sweet potato lasagna.
01:12:27 Okay.
01:12:28 Interesting.
01:12:29 I know parmigiana is made with fried aubergine and cheese and tomato sauce.
01:12:36 That is good.
01:12:37 We're scraping the bottle of the barrel for conversation, but we are ready to get back into the swimming discipline.
01:12:45 Heat one.
01:12:47 We'll see two Hungarians next to each other.
01:12:49 Blanka Guzy, Blanka Bauer, Heidi Morsey, Catherine Maren Oliver, Lucy Hlavackova and Jessica Varley.
01:12:56 Lanes one to six.
01:12:58 Of course, Jessica Varley will not be there, as we have to remind ourselves.
01:13:03 She withdrew from the competition due to an unfortunate back injury from, we think, obtained from the ranking round.
01:13:11 Big smile on the face of Blanka Guzy then.
01:13:14 She will be the first athlete out onto the pool.
01:13:18 Always smiling, always loving life.
01:13:20 Blanka Guzy of Hungary will finally get us back underway.
01:13:24 Seventh in Sofia earlier this year, but of course was gold medalist in Budapest, beating her teammates Michelle Gouyache in one of the most exciting finishes in recent modern pentathlon history.
01:13:40 Yeah, that was an exciting, a very exciting competition and we saw the tears.
01:13:45 We nearly had the tears.
01:13:46 Yeah, I think we all wanted to cry, didn't we?
01:13:48 Were you commentating that race?
01:13:50 Yeah.
01:13:51 You were, weren't you?
01:13:52 It was my first time.
01:13:54 What a first race that was.
01:13:56 Blanka Bauer, 17th in Sofia, 15th in Budapest, 17th in Cairo, was 7th in the Hungary Indoors at the beginning of this year.
01:14:04 It's been a great break for a year for Blanka Bauer and we look forward to see what she can do for the rest of this competition.
01:14:13 Heidi Morci has slipped down the rankings.
01:14:18 And unfortunately was in first place, but got that elimination from the ride.
01:14:26 Catherine Maren Oliver.
01:14:33 Lucy Hlavackova.
01:14:42 Hlavackova, just 18 years of age, was 4th at the Budapest Indoors earlier this year.
01:14:55 A very solid start to her pentathlon season.
01:15:09 You already mentioned that this is the start of this pool, the blocks are not...
01:15:15 Bit wobbly, aren't they?
01:15:17 Yeah.
01:15:18 Slow pool this, would you say?
01:15:20 It's a very slow pool, yeah.
01:15:22 Define a slow pool for us, what makes a pool slow?
01:15:25 To be honest, I can't define the difference, but it's just how you feel inside.
01:15:31 It looks like the water is more difficult to catch.
01:15:35 Yeah, it doesn't seem like there is such thing as slow water and fast water, but confirmation it's a slow pool from Rania Prampalini who did 125 lengths or so earlier.
01:15:46 Off and underway in Heat 1.
01:15:55 So, Guzi Bauer, Morsi, Oliver, Hlavackova and unfortunately not Jessica Varley.
01:16:05 So just 5 athletes in the pool here.
01:16:08 Blanca Guzi in lane 1.
01:16:13 She's got the fastest time.
01:16:19 Her and Blanca Bauer, so we can see if it's a slow pool or not. They have 2.15.
01:16:28 So, there's the turn from Guzi.
01:16:38 Approaching the halfway stage.
01:16:48 Here we go then, this will be the halfway point of this race.
01:16:53 Bauer ahead of Hlavackova, Guzi in second place, 1.25 separating the top 3.
01:17:14 So Bauer hanging on here.
01:17:17 In a 25m pool it's very important the diving in the turn.
01:17:26 So a little update here from one of the athletes who just got in touch, Alexandra Dallenbach.
01:17:31 As mentioned, the viscosity of the water, the shape of the bottom pool, the temperature of the starting blocks, giving us lots of reasons why the pool could be slow.
01:17:39 We'll dwell a bit more on that in a few moments time, but we'll just talk you through the final few lengths of this first swimming heat.
01:17:45 Strong finishes from Bauer. Could Bauer make a last dash in the final 25m?
01:17:52 She is certainly putting the pressure on Guzi and Bauer.
01:17:59 This is a good battle between the two Hungarians. I think Guzi's done this, you know.
01:18:02 Guzi has edged into the lead and Blanca Guzi with a strong finish.
01:18:07 A time of 2.20 and it's first for Hungary, second for Hungary, third for the Czech Republic.
01:18:16 Just like that Guzi one, she needs to battle between her teammates. She's always, she's got a very strong finish.
01:18:23 I like the character. Yeah.
01:18:31 Like the fighter character. Guzi's face often tells a story, doesn't it? Yeah. She looks pretty tired.
01:18:37 Strong finish from Guzi, 2.20 the time.
01:18:42 So just seeing the replays there and we'll just reflect on those comments sent in by Alexandra Dallenbach.
01:18:58 Those are your scores firstly. Guzi 15 points now ahead of Blanca Bauer.
01:19:05 But yeah, the shape of the bottom of the pool, the temperature of the pool, the starting blocks, the lanes that separate the swimmers,
01:19:15 avoid disturbance from waves from the other swimmers. These all add factors as to why you can have a quick and a slow pool.
01:19:21 Olivia Green, Ilka Ruzicka, Rana Zsert, Mingyu Zhang, Jintaro Vankovskaya, Tiamat Akishmael, the athletes in Swimming Heat 2.
01:19:27 I mean, I think the temperature has to be... 26, doesn't it? 27.
01:19:33 It felt pretty warm to me when I put my hand in there. I haven't actually had the pleasure of swimming in there.
01:19:38 But Alexandra Dallenbach concludes by saying it's a great pool for the conditions.
01:19:42 It was built in just a bit slow compared to some of the other pools.
01:19:47 It's not a permanent pool, this. It's a purpose-built pool.
01:19:51 But here we go. Olivia Green will be the first athlete out in Heat 2.
01:19:58 Olivia Green had a very good ride, given that she's a bit of a tricky horse.
01:20:06 Managed to pull it all together. Yeah, she just knocked the number 10. Yep.
01:20:10 Last one. Nearly a perfect... Nearly a perfect score.
01:20:14 Ilka Ruzicka, home favourite.
01:20:17 We're inside the top 9 now. It's the top 7 that have just come out now.
01:20:22 Anna Giertz in 8th place.
01:20:25 Sorry, in 9th place. So this is the top 9.
01:20:28 Anna Giertz. But is a slow swimmer, so that could close things up.
01:20:33 Anna Giertz, I anticipate, will set a time of around 2.30.
01:20:39 Mingyu Zhang.
01:20:42 Mingyu Zhang.
01:20:44 And then alongside Mingyu Zhang, Junkeiroi, Van Kalskati.
01:20:57 Van Kalskati could be one to watch in the Laser Run.
01:21:01 She's a quick runner. She's not too far off those top 9 positions.
01:21:08 We didn't say that she just had a baby.
01:21:12 She did. Her baby was in attendance in Sofia, alongside her husband.
01:21:17 And now, finally, Malak Ismail, who was riding quite high, but has dropped right down the order.
01:21:24 She's probably one of the quickest swimmers in this heat.
01:21:28 So a chance for Malak Ismail to maybe close that gap a little bit.
01:21:33 [Music]
01:21:36 So those are your six athletes that will be taking part in the second swimming heat.
01:22:01 [Music]
01:22:04 Here we go then. Underway. Keep an eye on lane 3, Anna Giertz.
01:22:17 Because she is the highest ranked athlete in terms of being in 9th place.
01:22:23 So that's the time that the athletes will be chasing.
01:22:27 That is Mingyu Zhang, who could be the quickest athlete in this swimming heat.
01:22:33 Yeah, unfair to Anna Giertz. She's not a very quick swimmer.
01:22:39 Coming outside the pool with your time and staying there in that position, top 9,
01:22:54 would be good because she's a quick runner.
01:22:59 So here we go. There is the turn.
01:23:04 And we are approaching the halfway stage of this second swimming heat.
01:23:13 Fastest time so far was 2.20. That was set by Blanca Guzzi in the first swimming heat.
01:23:22 Mingyu Zhang leads. Olivia Green is second.
01:23:25 Shuntaro Vankaskohti hanging on one and a half seconds behind Mingyu Zhang.
01:23:30 Just three turns left.
01:23:38 I can say great diving from Green.
01:23:48 So Zhang still leads at the 150m.2. Lengths left of the pool.
01:24:02 Elka Rzucsel has moved past Olivia Green.
01:24:04 Olivia Green lost a little bit of pace there in that previous 25m.
01:24:08 So here we go. Heading towards the turn for the final 25.
01:24:14 So some pretty close swims across the board there.
01:24:20 Anna Giertz has fallen back so that will close things up.
01:24:24 Well Rzucsel has closed down on Zhang here but I think it's going to be Zhang with the fastest time of 2.17.
01:24:32 Just under 2.80. Olivia Green came home in second place.
01:24:36 In the end it was Malakishmael who took third place.
01:24:40 But congratulations to Mingyu Zhang, fastest swimmer in that second swimming heat.
01:24:45 I think all the athletes when they finish the competition and ask the time
01:24:54 and it's pretty much we see it's 4 or 5 seconds more than the PB.
01:25:00 They're a little bit shocked like how is that possible.
01:25:05 Yeah. Slow pool and obviously the athletes do hold back to try and save themselves for the later run.
01:25:14 It's all very tactical swimming these days.
01:25:18 Not quite the flat out sprint like we saw in the previous format.
01:25:22 Where you see the likes of Gonas Gubadlina, Elodie Cluvel battling out.
01:25:29 Those two would switch fastest times from event to event.
01:25:36 As was the story with Joseph Cheung and Jamie Cook in the men's.
01:25:39 So there are your scores and you can see Ilkra Rzucsel has now built a bit of a lead.
01:25:47 But I'm interested to see in fact look at that Jintero Vankaskaiti has moved a point ahead of Anna Giertz.
01:25:54 So we've had a change in ninth place.
01:25:57 If you're just tuning in you're new to Pentathlon and you're wondering why we're getting so excited about ninth place.
01:26:01 This is the semifinals and it's all about getting inside that top nine to qualify for Saturday's final.
01:26:07 This is the semifinals. It's all about getting into that final.
01:26:10 And this is the final swimming heats. Rebecca Lange, Relena Micheli, Shengming Xiong, Ipak Aksin,
01:26:16 Laura Asfidelskaiti and Karolina Krenkova are the six athletes competing in this final swimming heat.
01:26:24 Lange looks focused at this competition, doesn't she? She's put a perfect 300 in the ride and barely let a smile.
01:26:32 She is determined here.
01:26:34 Yeah, she's injured her finger a few days ago when it was just done.
01:26:40 But she competed in a German competition. She was solid as well.
01:26:46 Doesn't look as happy as I thought she would have been in this position.
01:26:49 Probably she was disappointed about the touching and fencing. I saw her coming outside the beast a little bit.
01:26:57 Got a perfect 300 though in the riding.
01:27:00 Elena Micheli in lane two.
01:27:05 Rebecca Lange has had a great season. She picked up that silver medal the last time out in Ankara.
01:27:10 Shengming Xiong of Korea in lane three.
01:27:17 Shengming Xiong was silver medalist last time out in Sofia.
01:27:22 Great event there for the Korean.
01:27:25 Ipak Aksin in lane four.
01:27:30 Ipak Aksin was fifth at 2018 and 24 European Championships.
01:27:43 Lara Astoskaya, two-time Olympic medalist at gold.
01:27:49 And of course fourth in Sofia, she was a gold medalist in London 2012.
01:27:54 Silver in Tokyo, fourth in Budapest obviously.
01:27:57 She's had a great year. Mother of the most experienced athlete in the field.
01:28:00 The age of 39 years old.
01:28:04 And then finally, Czech athletes.
01:28:09 Karolina Krenkova makes her way to the field.
01:28:15 Krenkova was the bronze medalist at the 2024 European Championships in 2020.
01:28:21 These are the top six athletes in the competition.
01:28:41 I want to say all eyes in lane number two to Elena.
01:28:54 I bet she's going to win this.
01:28:56 Yeah, she's the quickest swimmer, isn't she out there?
01:28:59 Elena Micheli in lane two.
01:29:01 She's on the right top hand side of the screen.
01:29:04 There she is, Elena Micheli.
01:29:05 Capable of a sub-2.10 time.
01:29:07 She swims her fastest, which I don't think she will do.
01:29:11 It is of course semi-finals.
01:29:12 She's in a very solid position.
01:29:14 We'll be focusing on her laser run half an hour on that next discipline.
01:29:34 So, Xiong Mingxiong on the back of that silver medal in Bulgaria is in a good position in this competition.
01:29:39 As is Rebecca Langer, another silver medalist.
01:29:41 This time from Ankara, the second World Cup of this season.
01:29:44 Great battle between her and Marianna Seres.
01:29:46 They're picking up a bronze medal there.
01:29:49 Approaching the halfway stage and Elena Micheli leads as we expected.
01:29:58 How close to 105 will Elena Micheli be?
01:30:01 Pretty much bang on 105.5.
01:30:04 Xiong Mingxiong a further 5.8 behind.
01:30:07 1.97, Ipak Aksin.
01:30:09 Those are your top three.
01:30:12 Approaching the 1.25 mark.
01:30:15 So, Elena Micheli is leading the way.
01:30:34 And there's the turn.
01:30:36 It's very close between Micheli and Xiong Mingxiong.
01:30:38 I think closer than you anticipated.
01:30:40 Irene?
01:30:41 Yeah, I'm expecting Elena, she's preserving herself for the later run, for the Great Saturday final.
01:30:54 Super Saturday.
01:30:55 Great Saturday.
01:30:56 Great Saturday.
01:30:57 Here we go, final few meters of the swimming discipline here in women's semifinal day.
01:31:04 Elena Micheli powering through to the finish line.
01:31:07 She looks to her right to see that she is ahead and it's a 2.15.
01:31:14 It's around six seconds slower than she can swim but she'll be happy with that.
01:31:18 Ipak Aksin in third place, Song in second.
01:31:36 So just seeing the replays there of that final swimming heats.
01:31:54 So we've been told it's a 5.45 start, so we are only 40 minutes away from the start of the laser run.
01:32:04 So let's take a look at those scores.
01:32:07 And you can see Elena Micheli ahead by seven points.
01:32:10 Mingxiong in ninth place on 7.54.
01:32:16 Laura Ashtar-Skyeti has, I think it was Jintaro Van Karskati who we thought had moved up.
01:32:21 But let's have a look.
01:32:22 7.54 for Mingxiong.
01:32:25 And there's a big drop off there, isn't there, between eighth and ninth.
01:32:29 And 12 points further back is Jintaro Van Karskati.
01:32:34 Anna Gjerte further second back.
01:32:36 So Malakishmiel still potentially in with a chance.
01:32:39 Blanka Guzi we know is a quick runner, could make her way through the field.
01:32:42 I wouldn't be surprised if we see Blanka Guzi in tomorrow's final.
01:32:45 She's had a good day so far today.
01:32:46 Didn't have a good fencing ranking round but has made up for it today.
01:32:50 And then of course Morsey, Myron Oliver and Hlavackovic will be struggling.
01:32:55 So it's a similar story to what we had in semi-final A in the sense that the top eight are looking pretty cozy at the minute.
01:33:02 But the top positions are a little bit, a little bit more cut and dry.
01:33:14 Right, let's take a look back at the swimming highlights.

01:33:55 - Welcome back to Ankara, Turkey.
01:34:23 The swimming is done and dusted for today.
01:34:26 We've managed to avoid the thunderstorms so far.
01:34:28 We did think that might disrupt the competition.
01:34:30 The ever unpredictable Ankara weather
01:34:34 has been keeping everybody on their toes.
01:34:36 But the window here in the commentary box is wide open.
01:34:39 There doesn't even seem to be a breeze in the air.
01:34:41 So let's take a look at how things move from the pool.
01:34:45 We've managed to avoid the thunder and lightning,
01:34:47 but the fireworks will be in the air
01:34:49 at the end of the laser run
01:34:50 if those athletes further back manage to squeeze their way
01:34:52 inside that top nine.
01:34:54 Five times 600 meters for the running part of the laser run.
01:34:58 The first lap is the formation lap
01:35:01 and you can see as illustrated by that white line,
01:35:04 the athletes have to make their way to the shooting range.
01:35:09 Four series at 10 meters distance.
01:35:11 You've got to hit the five targets.
01:35:12 Time for around 10 seconds is the aim.
01:35:14 Less than that's good, more than that's not so good.
01:35:17 And then of course we conclude with the rest of the course.
01:35:20 It is the laser run.
01:35:21 It is fast, it's frantic.
01:35:24 It's the World Cup final here in Ankara.
01:35:26 Welcome one and all to semi-final B of the women's individual.
01:35:30 We will have the conclusion
01:35:32 of who is going to be competing in Super Saturday.
01:35:35 As our sheets are delivered,
01:35:37 we can speculate a little bit more on those timings.
01:35:40 And it is all about how close,
01:35:44 I think to be honest with you,
01:35:46 I'm going to make a bold statement here.
01:35:48 - It's quite difficult because the top eight
01:35:51 had a very good lead.
01:35:53 - I think Jintare Vankarsehati is in the final.
01:35:57 - Yeah, for sure.
01:35:57 - I think that goes without saying.
01:35:59 Anna Giert, could she put a good laser run together here
01:36:01 and maybe squeeze in ahead of Ming-Yu Zhang?
01:36:03 - Yeah, I think, I predict a couple of athletes
01:36:06 in the top eight that can drop down,
01:36:08 but I don't want to say.
01:36:10 So I think, yeah, Jintare for sure
01:36:13 and Anna Giert can make it.
01:36:15 - What I would say is the top eight,
01:36:18 have got a big gap over eighth and ninth place.
01:36:21 - Yeah.
01:36:22 - 18 seconds between Laura Stasketti in eighth
01:36:24 and Ming-Yu Zhang.
01:36:25 So at the moment, if you are Jintare Vankarsehati,
01:36:27 Anna Giert or Malakishma, or maybe even Blanka Guzzi,
01:36:31 probably Blanka about a bit too far back.
01:36:33 Well, let's have a look at Blanka Guzzi.
01:36:35 1.10 is her gap off the lead.
01:36:39 So she is 24 seconds.
01:36:42 That could change.
01:36:43 I mean, we've got a good laser run
01:36:45 ahead of us here potentially.
01:36:47 - Yeah, we have a pretty strong laser run.
01:36:49 I mean, Jintare Vankarsekhai, Anna Giert and Blanka Guzzi.
01:36:54 I think all the three,
01:36:56 they're going to fight to the top nine.
01:37:00 And we'll see.
01:37:04 That's going to be exciting.
01:37:05 - So there is Anna Giert with her coach, Jamie Cook.
01:37:18 - Working hard with Anna Giert, isn't he?
01:37:21 In all areas of her competition.
01:37:24 - Yeah.
01:37:24 - It's his job.
01:37:26 - Yeah.
01:37:27 Stressful job.
01:37:30 - Putting the...
01:37:32 Putting the...
01:37:37 - Numbers.
01:37:38 - Numbers, thank you.
01:37:39 Thank you for that.
01:37:40 Putting the numbers on the athletes' costumes.
01:37:44 Costumes, I've forgotten how to speak, I apologise.
01:37:47 On the athletes' top five.
01:37:50 - That's a game.
01:37:52 - It's a game, try and guess what I'm trying to say.
01:37:55 It seems to be a struggle for Jamie.
01:37:57 - Yeah, I think he's got,
01:38:01 I don't want to say that,
01:38:02 but I think he's got more pressure than Anna.
01:38:05 - You think so?
01:38:06 - Yeah.
01:38:07 - Why is that, then?
01:38:08 You've said it now.
01:38:09 - Yeah, I think he really wants her to be in the top nine.
01:38:16 - I think Anna probably really wants to be
01:38:18 in the top nine as well, though, right?
01:38:20 - Yeah, she had an amazing last run on,
01:38:23 what was it, on the second World Cup?
01:38:28 - Yeah.
01:38:28 - Here, in Ankara.
01:38:29 - Yeah.
01:38:30 - She made the save.
01:38:33 - I feel like you're nervous for...
01:38:36 - I am.
01:38:37 - For this race.
01:38:38 You've been twizzling with your hair.
01:38:39 Is this an Italian trait, possibly?
01:38:41 We saw Elena Micheli doing it earlier.
01:38:42 - Yeah, yeah.
01:38:43 It's relaxing.
01:38:47 I'm a little bit nervous after a minute.
01:38:49 - Sincero, Ivan Karskaitis will be a little bit nervous
01:38:53 as well, the Lithuanian in 10th place.
01:38:56 - Do you think so?
01:38:57 Do you think she is nervous in this?
01:38:59 - I don't know.
01:39:00 I mean, Elena Micheli was shooting with her eyes closed
01:39:02 there.
01:39:03 It's like some Jedi training.
01:39:06 Eyes are open, well, at least one of them is.
01:39:11 Elena Micheli took part in our Athletes Shooting Challenge
01:39:14 alongside Michelle Goullas on Pentathlon 360.
01:39:17 We won't reveal who won that, but that will be the next
01:39:19 episode out in the next week or so.
01:39:21 That was quite good fun, actually.
01:39:23 Michelle Goullas is always good fun to film with,
01:39:25 as is Elena Micheli.
01:39:26 Olivia Green at the shooting range in sixth place
01:39:31 and looking pretty comfortable.
01:39:33 Had that fantastic ride, which has really helped
01:39:36 to dictate her competition.
01:39:37 (dramatic music)
01:39:40 Focus on Olivia Green's face again.
01:39:46 - She's been really focused in this competition.
01:39:49 - She has, practicing the swimming.
01:39:51 - Now practicing the shooting.
01:39:54 - Yeah.
01:39:55 - Both open eyes.
01:39:56 I can't shoot with both open eyes.
01:39:59 - Yeah, that's an interesting technique, isn't it?
01:40:03 - Wengtai Zheng also has the two eyes open shooting.
01:40:08 His teammate of Xiangmingxiang,
01:40:12 you can see on your screens there.
01:40:13 And let's delve into Xiangmingxiang and take a look
01:40:16 at some of her career statistics.
01:40:19 First started in 2022,
01:40:23 it's only her second year on the circuit.
01:40:26 She's picked up one silver medal,
01:40:28 which was at the last event in Sofia.
01:40:31 She comes into this competition in good form.
01:40:33 She has six World Cup starts
01:40:34 and already a World Cup silver medal to her name,
01:40:38 one for the future in this strong Korean pentathlon team.
01:40:42 In terms of her overall percentage,
01:40:43 well, she's below average in fencing,
01:40:45 but makes up for it in the swimming and the laser run.
01:40:49 She's in 17th place overall in laser run standings,
01:40:53 down in 36th in the fencing,
01:40:56 eighth overall in the swimming,
01:40:59 and 17th in the riding.
01:41:01 And in terms of where she starts
01:41:03 and where she finishes races,
01:41:05 well, hasn't got a load of experience to draw upon,
01:41:08 but in Sofia, she started in seventh
01:41:10 and finished all the way up in second place.
01:41:12 But that is one of the few exceptions
01:41:15 of her really making up a lot of positions.
01:41:18 In Ankara last time around in the World Cup,
01:41:21 she dropped a place.
01:41:22 In Cairo, she made up a couple.
01:41:23 And in World Championships in Alexandria last year,
01:41:25 she made a couple.
01:41:26 But you can see that's consistency, isn't it?
01:41:28 16th, 14th, 11th, 7th, and 2nd in terms of start positions,
01:41:31 15th, 12th, 12th, and 2nd in terms of finishing positions.
01:41:36 Shengming Shang could be an outside favorite
01:41:38 for a gold here at the World Cup final,
01:41:40 which would, of course,
01:41:41 secure a position at the Olympic Games.
01:41:44 Now, this is where things get a little complicated.
01:41:45 If you do win gold, it's not a guarantee
01:41:47 you're gonna be at the Olympic Games.
01:41:48 It actually just guarantees a position for your nation.
01:41:52 And then the nations will choose
01:41:55 which athletes they take to the Olympics.
01:41:57 They have their own internal rankings.
01:42:00 But a gold medal here only guarantees your nation
01:42:03 a spot at the Olympics.
01:42:04 It doesn't actually guarantee your position at the Olympics.
01:42:07 But generally speaking, the winner of World Cup final
01:42:10 will probably be at the Olympics.
01:42:14 Rebecca Langer on your screens there.
01:42:15 She was, of course, a silver medalist
01:42:17 last time out in Ankara.
01:42:19 She's jostling to get to the shooting range.
01:42:22 And while she gets to the shooting range,
01:42:23 and while she gets herself prepared,
01:42:25 let's take a deep dive into Rebecca Langer's career
01:42:29 and have a look at some of her statistics
01:42:31 from her career so far.
01:42:33 21 World Cup stars, the first of which came in 2017.
01:42:38 That silver medal she picked up in Ankara
01:42:40 was her first World Cup silver medal.
01:42:42 So, Xiangming Xiang picking up her first in Sofia.
01:42:45 Rebecca Langer picking up her first here in Ankara
01:42:48 in World Cup two earlier this year.
01:42:51 Let's have a look at how the rest of her competition ranks
01:42:55 against the rest of the fields.
01:42:58 In terms of overall performance, she's in the top--
01:43:00 well, she's 9% above average in fencing,
01:43:03 just above average in swimming,
01:43:05 and 3% above average in laser run.
01:43:09 In a top 10 position in fencing, 12th in riding,
01:43:14 21 in swimming, and 29 in laser run.
01:43:18 That is Rebecca Langer's performance.
01:43:20 And how does that equate to where she starts,
01:43:22 to where she finishes?
01:43:25 So, in the current competition, she's got a 300 in riding,
01:43:29 a 230 in fencing, and 262 in swimming.
01:43:32 That starts her in third place.
01:43:34 In Ankara, she started in the fourth medal,
01:43:35 two positions to pick up that first medal.
01:43:37 World Cup in Cairo, she dropped two positions.
01:43:40 In Alexandria in the World Championships last year,
01:43:42 she dropped two positions.
01:43:43 In Ankara last year, she dropped eight positions.
01:43:46 So, she's bucked that trend to pick up that victory,
01:43:50 that silver medal will be a big victory for her.
01:43:53 She's looking very focused, locked in her own thoughts there,
01:43:58 and is in third place, eight seconds off the lead.
01:44:02 And you would imagine Rebecca Langer has what it takes
01:44:04 to get through to the final of the World Cup final,
01:44:08 Super Saturday, next on the agenda for these women
01:44:12 after this semi-final.
01:44:13 We had semi-final A a little bit earlier.
01:44:15 It's now semi-final B, and we will then have all 18 athletes
01:44:19 that will compete in Super Saturday.
01:44:20 Part one of Super Saturday will be the women's final,
01:44:23 part two will be the men's final.
01:44:25 And then we conclude the event with a mixed relay.
01:44:28 Let's take a look then at the start list.
01:44:31 Elena Micheli, seven seconds ahead of Xiong Mingxiong,
01:44:34 Rebecca Langer in third.
01:44:35 We just had a little bit of a deep dive into Xiong Mingxiong
01:44:38 and Rebecca Langer.
01:44:39 And that is two Turkish athletes,
01:44:41 Aksin and Nuzuksul, looking cozy and comfortable
01:44:44 in fourth and fifth.
01:44:45 Livia Green looks fairly comfortable in the sixth crank
01:44:48 of Anastas Gaiti, looking comfortable in seventh
01:44:50 and eighth place.
01:44:51 Then Mingxiong has all pressure on her.
01:44:54 46 seconds off the lead in ninth place.
01:44:56 Let's see how far back.
01:44:58 That is 12 seconds the gap then between ninth and Gintero
01:45:01 Van Karsgaardt and Ajert.
01:45:03 13 seconds behind.
01:45:04 Malakishmel is 18 seconds behind.
01:45:09 And then 24 seconds behind is Blanka Guzi.
01:45:12 And Blanka Bauer is even further back.
01:45:15 Heidi Morsi, Catherine Maren Oliver, Lucy Klovakova
01:45:20 will start without any opportunity
01:45:24 to get into that top nine.
01:45:25 Because, of course, they were eliminated from the riding
01:45:28 and Jessica Varley did not start this competition.
01:45:33 So we're expecting a bit of a battle for ninth place,
01:45:35 aren't we?
01:45:36 And there is Elena Micheli twizzling her hair once again.
01:45:40 I think it's a nervous thing.
01:45:41 I think-- I don't think it's a relaxation thing.
01:45:44 I think it's a-- look, here we go.
01:45:45 You have a little twizzle.
01:45:48 Indulge.
01:45:48 Enjoy yourself.
01:45:50 I will ask her.
01:45:51 And I will let you know tomorrow.
01:45:54 Sure.
01:45:56 So here we go.
01:45:56 I'm going to start twizzling my hair now.
01:46:00 Right, Anna Ajert in with a chance of squeezing in.
01:46:03 Swiss athletes.
01:46:06 Blanka Guzi, she's practicing her shooting.
01:46:10 She's getting those arm movements in place.
01:46:14 So we're just 10 seconds away from the start of the laser run.
01:46:21 3, 2, 1, and we are underway.
01:46:24 Elena Micheli leading us off with a seven second head start.
01:46:27 Xiong Mingxiong will move off in second place.
01:46:30 And Micheli's not going to push too hard on this opening lap.
01:46:33 Rebecca Langham leads us out in third place.
01:46:39 Out goes Ipak Aksin, 10 seconds ahead of her teammates.
01:46:44 Ilkra Zuksel.
01:46:44 So a bit of a gap there between the first four athletes.
01:46:49 Ilkra Zuksel powering away, as is Olivia Green, closely
01:46:53 followed up by Karolina Krenkova and Laura Stauskaity.
01:46:56 Those are your top eight.
01:46:57 And those athletes have a bit of breathing space
01:47:00 in this early stage.
01:47:03 It's going to be interesting how Laura and the other two
01:47:06 and the other three runners are going to approach the run.
01:47:10 Yeah, you can see Laura Stauskaity has already just got
01:47:13 so much extra pace in those legs.
01:47:15 So away goes Mingxiong.
01:47:18 She passes by Elena Micheli.
01:47:21 Probably the last time those two see each other in this race,
01:47:23 because I think Elena Micheli will shoot off into the distance.
01:47:26 So Micheli controlling the pace a bit too much.
01:47:34 Micheli controlling the pace out front.
01:47:36 She was seven seconds ahead of Xiong Mingxiong.
01:47:39 Rebecca Langer has closed that gap.
01:47:42 It was only a second to start with,
01:47:43 so that's pretty much as it was.
01:47:45 Malakishmail is out on the track.
01:47:46 And the gap between Mingyu Zhang and Jinterria Vankaskaity,
01:47:54 I feel, is already starting to fall down.
01:47:57 Anna Gert is keeping pace with Jinterria Vankaskaity.
01:48:00 That is the athlete she has to finish ahead
01:48:02 at this point of the race.
01:48:03 We may see some slow shows.
01:48:05 Blanka Bauer is off out and running.
01:48:07 She could still technically make this final.
01:48:09 Then Morsey, Oliver, Hlavatskova all out of the running.
01:48:15 So let's have a look then.
01:48:16 Six seconds now the gap between Xiong and Micheli.
01:48:20 Langer in third place.
01:48:24 As you can see, two other Turkish athletes,
01:48:28 Aksin and Azucel.
01:48:29 Azucel hasn't overtaken her teammate quite yet.
01:48:31 Not pushing too hard in this opening lap,
01:48:33 which is understandable.
01:48:35 So there is that battle for ninth place.
01:48:46 Mingyu Zhang is being tracked by Jinterria Vankaskaity.
01:48:51 That gap now just six seconds.
01:48:54 Well, that has fallen quite a bit.
01:48:58 And you can see Vankaskaity closing in on a ninth place athlete.
01:49:01 So off to the shooting range for Elena Micheli.
01:49:05 Micheli getting those first shots fired away.
01:49:13 Makes her first target, but struggling with the second.
01:49:18 Finally does get it after six seconds.
01:49:20 So slow and steady for Elena Micheli.
01:49:23 It's not bad shooting from Micheli.
01:49:26 Could do with getting this fifth one in the bag soon.
01:49:28 Starting to get quite expensive this for Micheli.
01:49:31 And she's now lost the race lead.
01:49:33 Micheli struggling with this final target.
01:49:35 It's a 23 second shoot for Micheli.
01:49:39 So look at that.
01:49:40 Vankaskaity has closed right up on Mingyu Zhang.
01:49:45 Azucel away.
01:49:48 But this is really the battle.
01:49:51 Look at that. Vankaskaity has closed down
01:49:54 already 12 seconds in one lap.
01:49:57 And Mingyu Zhang is at the range.
01:49:59 And Aksin is really struggling here at the shooting range.
01:50:01 She's on 20 seconds.
01:50:03 She could get sucked into this battle here.
01:50:05 So Mingyu Zhang shooting well as is Vankaskaity.
01:50:09 I think Aksin is finally out of the range, is she?
01:50:12 I think Aksin has just about got out.
01:50:15 But now she has been drawn into this battle for the top nine.
01:50:18 Aksin has been sucked into this battle.
01:50:20 Yeah, I think as we predicted before,
01:50:24 Tintare is going to be in the nine.
01:50:26 But also I think she's going to be the Czech girl in the front.
01:50:32 Which can be good for Anna because she's close as well.
01:50:37 So there is the battle for eighth, ninth and tenth.
01:50:46 Vankaskaity has overtaken Mingyu Zhang
01:50:49 and has moved into that top nine.
01:50:51 Anna Zhe just in the back of the shot there
01:50:54 needs to shoot very well if she is to get inside that top nine.
01:50:57 But she's certainly given herself a chance.
01:51:00 And Aksin has been drawn into this battle.
01:51:09 She started in fourth place.
01:51:11 And Vankaskaity storms around the outside.
01:51:15 And well, can Zhang get past Aksin now?
01:51:20 That is eighth, ninth and tenth on your screens there.
01:51:25 Anna Zhe, well we see her at the back of the shot just before the camera pans right.
01:51:28 There is Anna Zhe.
01:51:30 So she has closed that gap reasonably well.
01:51:32 Blanka Guzi is still quite far back actually.
01:51:37 She's 12 seconds behind Anna Zhe.
01:51:40 So Guzi has to stand not in the runnings for those top nine positions.
01:51:43 But strange things have happened.
01:51:45 At the shooting range are our leaders.
01:51:47 Can McKelly improve on that first shooting round?
01:51:50 She's made a first and a second.
01:51:52 It's a better shooting from the Italian.
01:51:54 It's really good shooting from Milena McKelly this now.
01:51:56 McKelly on four out of the five.
01:52:01 Five out of five.
01:52:03 So Milena McKelly is away.
01:52:05 Rebecca Lange having a fantastic shoot as was Xiong Mingxiang.
01:52:11 So pretty solid shoots across the board.
01:52:14 Olivia Green shooting well.
01:52:16 Just seeing if anyone is stuck at the range there.
01:52:24 Krenkova is not having the best shoot here.
01:52:27 Van Karskaite.
01:52:29 So eventually Krenkova gets away.
01:52:32 But look at that.
01:52:33 Van Karskaite is already catching Krenkova.
01:52:35 So Van Karskaite, she's away from this battle now.
01:52:39 It's a 33 second shoot.
01:52:41 And away goes Xiong starting ninth.
01:52:45 And they're still in ninth.
01:52:46 Anna Giertz with a good shoot at this.
01:52:48 But needs to get that fifth one.
01:52:49 That fifth target can often be troublesome.
01:52:51 16 second shoot not too bad for Anna Giertz.
01:52:54 As she looks to close in on Mingxiang.
01:52:57 I think Anna Giertz moved up to tenth place.
01:52:59 She has.
01:53:00 So eight seconds behind ninth place.
01:53:05 Anna Giertz making moves.
01:53:07 Yeah, she's quick on the track.
01:53:10 But she needs a very strong, quick shooting.
01:53:15 Because 16 seconds is not enough.
01:53:18 She can make it.
01:53:22 We saw before Mariana Arcel in the same final.
01:53:25 That she was tenth in the last lap.
01:53:27 And then she had an amazing shooting in the last one.
01:53:30 And she went through to the final for Saturday.
01:53:36 So Blanka Bauer is looking to try and keep pace with the leaders.
01:53:41 But is a little bit further back.
01:53:43 Mingxiang currently occupies ninth spot.
01:53:45 She is six seconds ahead of Anna Giertz.
01:53:47 And Anna Giertz is reeling in her target.
01:53:50 She's been fairly consistent.
01:53:52 Can't afford a slow shoot.
01:53:53 Because Xiong has been shooting okay.
01:53:55 Eighth back accident has dropped from fourth down to thirteenth.
01:53:58 Blanka Guzzi still 104 off the lead.
01:54:01 Is not quite making the moves.
01:54:03 We potentially thought she could.
01:54:05 But this is now the intriguing battle.
01:54:08 And Klavatskova is not too far off as well.
01:54:13 This could really develop into an interesting battle for ninth place.
01:54:16 Anna Giertz, I would say, currently the favorite for ninth place.
01:54:20 She is closing in on Mingxiang.
01:54:23 So you can see all the leaders are at the shooting range now.
01:54:29 Rebecca Lang is having a fantastic laser run.
01:54:32 Elena Micheli has put together a good time there.
01:54:35 Xiong Mingxiang is away.
01:54:37 I think that's a look for Zuxal who is chasing down as well.
01:54:40 So good stuff from Zuxal.
01:54:42 Laura Stavskyte shooting off.
01:54:45 You think will probably put a bit of pressure on those in front of her.
01:54:49 She's a machine, Laura Stavskyte.
01:54:51 She just never seems to slow off, does she?
01:54:54 No, but I think it's her rhythm.
01:54:57 Like she just flies on the field.
01:55:00 So how is Kranjkova going to shoot here?
01:55:03 It's going to be interesting. This could be a nice race.
01:55:05 I think so. Kranjkova is struggling a little bit at the range here.
01:55:08 Is she going to get drawn into this battle?
01:55:09 It's a 20-second shoot for Kranjkova, not the end of the world.
01:55:12 Anna Giertz shooting fantastically well.
01:55:14 Are we going to see Anna Giertz move into the top nine?
01:55:16 Anna Giertz with a super fast time, sub-8 seconds.
01:55:20 And Anna Giertz has started in 11th place and has now moved up into that top nine.
01:55:25 Is there going to be any challenges coming from further back?
01:55:29 Lucy Klamachkova is in 11th place.
01:55:33 She could potentially put a bit of a pressure on our leaders.
01:55:37 I mean, as I said before, a great shoot can put yourself in a very good position.
01:55:44 That's what she needed now because she can think, "Right, I can do it."
01:55:52 So Anna Giertz has been the star of the show so far.
01:55:57 Lead athletes making their way now towards the penultimate shoot.
01:56:03 Just heading over this dark finish line anyway.
01:56:06 And they're all just in their rhythm and not putting too much extra effort in.
01:56:10 I worry a little bit for Karolina Kranjkova.
01:56:12 She's been dropping a little bit, especially you can see...
01:56:16 Is that...
01:56:17 Yeah, Klamachkova.
01:56:20 It's not worth getting excited about her at the moment because obviously she was eliminated from the riding.
01:56:25 So she will not be finishing inside that top nine no matter what happens.
01:56:31 So Mingyu Zhang is technically in 10th place.
01:56:33 Blanka Guzi is starting to put a bit of pressure on.
01:56:36 She is now 13 seconds off.
01:56:39 I mean, that's not impossible.
01:56:41 Blanka Guzi needs to find some pace from somewhere.
01:56:44 Anna Giertz doing a very good job here.
01:56:46 I feel it could be even, by the end of the race, Kranjkova who gets drawn into that battle.
01:56:51 Well, it's been a very good laser run for the young Czech athlete.
01:56:55 But there you can see Blanka Guzi on the same stretch as Anna Giertz.
01:57:01 So nothing decided yet.
01:57:03 This is in fact the final shoot.
01:57:05 So this is where pressure will make a big difference.
01:57:12 It is a big gap between Giertz and Guzi.
01:57:19 Guzi has cleared Zhang for 10th place.
01:57:25 Right, final shooting routine.
01:57:27 And Giertz has closed in.
01:57:30 At the same time we can see the top five athletes just jogging around.
01:57:35 They are sure to go through the final.
01:57:37 Once again, great shooting from Anna Giertz.
01:57:40 And that should be enough to see her into the final.
01:57:44 Brilliant, brilliant performance out from Anna Giertz.
01:57:46 Blanka Guzi would need a five second shoot here to have any chance of catching any fill at this stage.
01:57:52 And I think that there is your top nine done and dusted.
01:57:57 Kranjkova has done a very good laser run.
01:58:02 She is really making a good showing of herself.
01:58:06 It won't be her competition this time.
01:58:08 She wouldn't make the final even if she did get inside that top ten based on her handicap.
01:58:13 But yeah, you can see Anna Giertz has moved up now.
01:58:18 Eighth position.
01:58:20 So Liv just turned her head behind to check if she is safe.
01:58:25 If she can jog around.
01:58:28 I mean it is a nice feeling when you say "Oh, I am safe, I can jog".
01:58:32 Nice just to close home, isn't it?
01:58:37 It is nice to win the semi-final but it is just not high up the list of priorities, is it?
01:58:44 I think Xiong Mingxiong won't put too much pressure on Elena Micheli at this point.
01:58:48 Or maybe she will. Maybe she will claim the race win.
01:58:50 But it is irrelevant at this point.
01:58:52 Those are the leaders.
01:58:54 Elena Micheli, Xiong Mingxiong, Ilkka Rzucsul, Laura Astauskayt, Rebecca Lange.
01:59:01 All safely through to the final.
01:59:03 As is Jintaro Vankauskaiti who ran well and secured her spot in sixth place.
01:59:09 Livia Green just bringing it home casually.
01:59:12 Seventh place Anna Giertz. Fantastic job.
01:59:16 Eighth place Karolina Krenkova concluding things with a top nine finish.
01:59:22 Blanka Guzzi with that ever strong running finish.
01:59:26 It won't be enough for her on this occasion.
01:59:28 But don't take away what has been a fantastic season for Blanka Guzzi.
01:59:33 She is tenth overall when you take away Lucy Klajbac covers.
01:59:37 Points for riding.
01:59:39 Heidi Morse just finishing off here.
01:59:42 As is Mingxiong.
01:59:45 Mingxiong unfortunately starting in ninth place.
01:59:49 Dropping down the field and in the end coming home in twelfth place.
01:59:54 Heidi Morse will of course lose extra points off that score because of the handicap rule.
02:00:00 Wasn't to be for Malek Ismail today.
02:00:07 But it's another strong competition for her.
02:00:09 It didn't quite work out in the riding for either of those Egyptian athletes.
02:00:20 And we're just seeing Ipek Aksin coming home and that's a shame for Ipek Aksin.
02:00:25 She was fourth place heading into the laser arm.
02:00:28 Big wave there for Karolina Krenkova.
02:00:48 They are all young, the Czech I think.
02:00:51 It is Elena Michaili at the start just watching.
02:00:55 As I predicted before, this is the battle for the ninth place.
02:01:00 And I predicted before that two couple of athletes in the top eight could drop outside the top nine.
02:01:09 And as we said, Laura and the Swiss girl went in the top nine.
02:01:17 It was an amazing shooting from Anna Jurte.
02:01:21 And as we know, Venka Skarid is great.
02:01:25 Some struggling in the shooting for the Chinese and for Askin, the Turkish girl.
02:01:35 And here is the battle for the ninth place when the Swiss girl thought "I made it".
02:01:44 And this is the top five athletes coming to the end safe.
02:01:56 It's nice to see the athletes how they are determined to finish the five hits in shooting in the quickest time ever.
02:02:07 And I think this one is the last loop when the athletes are jogging and coming safe in the top nine.
02:02:23 It was a great show for three of them, the Swiss and also Blanka Guzi had a very good last run.
02:02:37 This is the final results in the top nine.
02:02:42 Elena Michaili, Sven Schampp, Ilke Ossuskal, Laura Sade-Skaide, Rebecca Langer, Gintara Venkoskaide, Olivia Green, Anna Jurte, Karolina Krenkova.
02:02:51 The top nine that we will see on Saturday on the final.
02:02:56 And ten positions, unfortunately not made.
02:03:01 The final is Blanka Guzi, Minxia Zhang, Malat Ismail, Blanka Bauer, Eva Skin, Heidi Morci, Lucy Hilikova, Katrin, Marianne Oliver and Jessia Varlet.
02:03:12 And didn't show up for injury.
02:03:14 We hope that she's recovering quick because I think she's got European Games in a couple of weeks.
02:03:21 That concludes our second semi-final and congratulations really to Anna Jurte.
02:03:34 She was the star of the show, started in 11th place, made up quite a bit of time to get inside that top nine.
02:03:38 Gintara Venkoskaide just cruised through in the end, didn't she? She is safely through alongside her teammates.
02:03:44 Laura Sade-Skaide, the timeless 39-year-old from Lithuania who's already won two Olympic medals, looking to qualify for yet another Olympic Games.
02:03:53 Wouldn't that be fantastic to see her pick up yet another medal?
02:03:57 It's a long way off at the moment, but wow, we're getting close, aren't we?
02:04:00 Just a year away in fact, really, from when athletes will be really thinking about those Paris Olympic Games.
02:04:08 That is our next Olympic edition of the modern pentathlon sports as we build up to Olympic qualification events.
02:04:19 That concludes semi-final B. Thank you for watching.
02:04:22 Thank you to the athletes. And of course we'll be back tomorrow with more action.
02:04:26 Semi-final A and semi-final B of the men's individuals ahead of Super Saturday.
02:04:30 We'll leave you with the images of the day. Thanks for watching. Bye for now.
