Danny Castledine was stabbed to death while on holiday in Amsterdam in 2022.

Danny's family tell their heartbreaking story and want to ask anyone who is thinking of carrying a knife to stop and think about the impact it will have.
Transcript
00:00 Danny travelled to Amsterdam on the 31st of May 2022.
00:04 He got split up from his friends.
00:06 He got trying to speak to people in the street,
00:09 trying to find his way back to his hotel
00:11 because he'd also had his phone taken as well.
00:15 He got talking to a 22-year-old Belgian man
00:18 and they went off together.
00:20 We assumed Danny thought he was going to show him back to his hotel,
00:23 but he ended up just taking him down a dark alley
00:27 and proceeded to stab him to death.
00:30 And ever since then, nothing's ever been the same.
00:33 The damage is just irreversible.
00:37 And to know how your child died as well
00:42 is something that you can't ever erase from your mind.
00:46 We saw every wound on his body,
00:50 where he tried to fight for freedom.
00:54 That picture, I can see it now as though I saw it five minutes ago.
00:59 It never ever sinks in.
01:00 And you never ever say to yourself,
01:03 "My brother was murdered," and believe it,
01:06 because it's just not something you consider to ever happen to you.
01:09 It's just one of those things you don't think it'll ever happen to you,
01:13 until it does.
01:14 Why do you want to throw your life away?
01:16 Why do you want to be behind bars for 25 years?
01:21 And think about the impact on your family.
01:23 How does your mum and sister feel,
01:25 knowing that you've murdered somebody
01:27 and that you're now in prison for 25 years?
01:30 You've thrown your whole future away.
01:33 And if you can't have any remorse for the victim and the victim's family,
01:38 think about your own life.
01:39 And I think that's why we need to start educating the children.
01:43 I mean, school is where knife crime is happening a lot as well.
01:47 We just thought that's where we need to get in first
01:51 and get some education in there
01:53 and that's what we started with.
01:55 You've just got to have that hope that it hits somebody in there.
01:58 That one person didn't pick up a knife,
02:01 how many people would be better for it in the future?
02:05 And that's what we're trying to do.
02:07 If we could just save one person's life
02:09 and their community around them, then that'll be enough.
