00:00 The 2024 presidential election is happening in just around six months.
00:04 And while Donald Trump's myriad criminal charges are no doubt slowing him down politically,
00:08 former Obama campaign strategist and political expert David Axelrod says
00:13 it might be Biden's ego that does him in in the end.
00:16 During a recent CNN interview, he discussed the president's recent appearance in Milwaukee,
00:20 saying that despite the economy doing well under Biden, many Americans still aren't feeling it.
00:25 With Axelrod detailing how the president problematically continues to talk about U.S.
00:29 economic struggles in the past tense, adding, "But that's not the way people are experiencing
00:34 the economy. I think he's making a terrible mistake. If he doesn't win this race,
00:39 it may not be Donald Trump that beats him. It may be his own pride."
00:43 Axelrod explained that the average American isn't looking at the 2.7% inflation rate this year,
00:48 one which is down massively from the 8% year-over-year rate of 2022,
00:53 saying instead, "Americans are experiencing it through the lens of the cost of living.
00:57 Biden is a man who built his career on empathy. Why not lead with the empathy? And the economy
01:03 is going to be a big issue." Especially considering that is one thing Americans
01:07 seem to trust Trump on more. According to a recent Gallup poll, only 38% of Americans
01:12 have a great deal of trust that Biden can lead our economy. Meanwhile, 46% of people
01:17 said the same about Donald Trump.
