00:00Since approximately 3 p.m. today, the Gaston County Communications Center has processed
00:19approximately 1,200 calls for service related to severe weather.
00:24Our emergency services teams continue to work tirelessly to respond to these incidents and
00:29to ensure the safety of our residents.
00:32We want to thank everyone for their cooperation and patience during this challenging time.
00:36As the storm has passed, we urge the citizens and residents to remain cautious while assessing
00:41any potential damage and to prioritize safety.
00:44If you must travel, please continue to be mindful of any remaining hazards.
00:49Additionally, we're expecting another storm around 2 a.m. tonight.
00:53Therefore, we advise residents to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel.
00:57Around 3.55, a storm came into Gaston County, uprooted trees, and did a lot to our thoroughfares
01:04of trying to get some of our roadways cleared, but also a lot of power lines are down.
01:09So right now, in Gaston County, as far as our buildings are concerned, the building
01:13that you're standing here is one without power, and our animal shelter is only two facilities
01:18that we have without power.
01:19We did have one fatality today during that episode, but we also, Jim's had one birth
01:25as well that they administered.
01:27So that was bringing into life.
01:29So something could at least come out of it, even though it's been a terrible day here
01:33in the county, but we're still trying to assess everything that's going on.
01:38During this time, we were extremely busy.
01:40We responded to multiple trees on cars and multiple trees on houses.
01:47The only fatality was a tree on a car, but some of those were extremely concerning.
01:55I was on one in a mobile home where it had been knocked off the foundation, and there
02:02was a big tree through the roof in multiple places.
