00:00 Kristen Faulkner comes through for the victory for EF Education Cannondale.

00:05 I knew I wanted to do kind of a last-minute attack.

00:08 I knew that climb was going to be a place where a lot of teams tried to attack.

00:11 Demi and Elisa Longo-Burghini tried one, and I was right on their wheel.

00:15 And then I looked back and we had a small gap, and I was like, "This is the counter that I have to go on."

00:19 So it was right before the climb, and it was a great moment.

00:22 So it was a bit of luck and planning, I think.

00:24 We came to try and win some stages, and we've already won two.

00:28 So I think it's early in La Vuelta, and we're already so excited and so proud of what we've accomplished so far.

00:34 After more magic from EF Education Cannondale yesterday, it's on to Stage 5 of La Vuelta Femenina,

00:42 and it's time for the GC favourites to take centre stage.

00:45 We are heading into the mountains today with a summit finish on the Alto del Fuerte Rapitan.

00:51 It'll be a first opportunity to see who is truly capable of fighting for overall victory between now and Sunday.

00:58 There are 113.9km to cover between Huesca and Jaca, with two climbs on the menu.

01:04 The first is long and shallow, and the second is short and steep.

01:07 3.4km is at an average of 7.9%, definitely enough to open up some gaps at the finish line.

01:14 The peloton heading through some stunning landscapes on this fifth stage,

01:22 with the sun back out in north-eastern Spain.

01:25 But with just over 60km to go, there was still no breakaway,

01:29 despite some earlier attempts from the likes of Alison Jackson and Antri Christoforou.

01:33 Lourdes Oyabide was the next to try her luck, and that move soon had the peloton all strung out.

01:39 A few kilometres later, there was a close shave for the race leader, Mariana Vos.

01:44 Oh, and now we've got a big crash in the middle of the stage.

01:48 I can see Alison Jackson there, I can see Mariana Vos.

01:52 Vos swinging back onto her bike, cyclocross style, and with the help of team-mate Maude Oudemans,

01:57 she was soon back in the bunch, as was Jackson.

02:00 That incident allowed Oyabide to open up a 30-second gap as she led the way to the day's first climb,

02:09 the Alto del Monasterio de San Juan de la Peña.

02:12 A long one, a day's work, but a good start for the race.

02:20 but with a shallow average gradient of just 3%.

02:23 There were no moves from the peloton on the lower slopes,

02:26 but there was another crash, with around 20 riders going to ground.

02:30 Lizzie Dignam was involved, while unfortunately Elena Hartman was forced to abandon.

02:35 Well, it was soon game over for Oyabide at the front, as FDJ Suez began to up the tempo,

02:40 with plenty of riders soon going backwards, including the former race leader Blanca Vaz in the green jersey.

02:46 Grace Brown setting a high tempo for her team leader Evita Muzik,

02:51 one of the women who got caught out in the crosswinds yesterday and lost two minutes.

02:56 FDJ Suez also getting a helping hand from Visma Lisabike, who still had Vos in this front group,

03:02 before Antonia Niedermayer decided to light the afterburners for Canyon Tram.

03:08 Niedermayer and Brown trying to go clear, but they were brought back before the summit,

03:12 where Caroline Schinkels managed to tighten her grip on the polka dot jersey,

03:16 10 more points for the Dutchwoman.

03:18 Just after the summit, another big name went to ground.

03:22 Oh no, bad, bad crash here. This looks like Guy Riellini is down.

03:26 Riellini bloodied and bruised, but able to keep going, it has been a tough race for last season's podium finisher.

03:33 Meanwhile, a strong group of 11 riders had detached themselves at the front,

03:37 including Vos, Follering, Longa Borghini, Nueva Yerdama, Labus, Spratt and Lippert.

03:42 But they weren't in the mood to work together, and a lot of riders caught up again after the descents.

03:48 The next meaningful move in the valley came from Schinkels,

03:53 the queen of the mountains, leading around 40 riders to the final climb.

03:59 She was soon swallowed up, and then it was also game over for Mariana Vos,

04:03 a new leader guaranteed at the summit.

04:06 Follering taking over at the front with around 2km to go and putting her rivals in all sorts of trouble.

04:12 Nueva Yerdama going backwards, so too was Mavi Garcia.

04:16 In fact, only Longa Borghini and Jara Kastelijn were able to hold Follering's wheel, but not for long.

04:23 Now, a gap has opened up from Vollering to Alissa Longa Borghini.

04:28 This is the first time there has been daylight between Vollering and her next biggest rival, Longa Borghini,

04:33 and Vollering is pushing on.

04:35 Demi Vollering has gone into the distance. The gap is now 19 seconds.

05:13 It's been rather a frustrating season for the Dutch star with plenty of podiums but no wins.

05:19 But she ended her seven-month drought here in some style,

05:23 Vollering celebrating her 30th career victory.

05:26 I felt really, really strong this season but it was not yet there.

05:32 I mean, I had some podiums but the win, yeah, it took long for me this year for my feeling

05:40 but I'm really happy that I could do it here.

05:44 This red jersey, the leaders' jersey, is of course a really pretty one

05:48 and I hope I can keep it till the very end.

05:51 Vollering taking her third stage win at La Vuelta a Femina by 28 seconds from Kastelijn and Longo Borghini.

05:57 Muziek, Giganti, Bauernfeind, Marcus, Labusse, Kadzo and Royakers making up the top ten.

06:03 Vollering is now top of the pile in that really pretty red jersey

06:08 and it's hard to see who might take it off her shoulders after today's show of strength.

06:12 Longo Borghini and Marcus are the only women within one minute.

06:17 Vos took 20 points at today's intermediate sprint so she takes the green jersey from Blanca Vaz,

06:23 just 12 points separating them at the top of the standings.

06:26 And Zwinkles still leads the mountains classification on 20 points

06:31 but Vollering on 10 will no doubt be adding to her haul in the coming days.

06:35 She will have another opportunity on Friday with another summit finish on La Laguna Negra.
