00:00Over 10,000 black cab drivers are suing Uber for more than £250 million.
00:06And here's why.
00:07The group of London cab drivers are accusing Uber of breaching taxi booking rules in London.
00:13The claim has been filed in the High Court over Uber's operations in the capital between
00:17May 2012 and March 2018.
00:21It's alleged Uber allowed its drivers to accept bookings directly from customers rather than
00:26going through a central system like minicab services.
00:30If this is the case, it would be considered unlawful as it doesn't comply with private
00:34hire rules.
00:36The cab drivers also claim that Uber misled TfL about how this ride booking system operated.
00:43Black cab drivers say that during this period they suffered huge losses as a result of having
00:47fewer customers.
00:49But each cab driver could claim up to £25,000 if the case is successful.
00:56Uber said the claims are completely unfounded and responded with the following statement.
01:04This is not the first issue Uber has had with licences.
01:07In 2019, TfL denied it a licence over concerns about passenger safety and transparency.
