Interview with Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi from Status Quo as they talked about the album  'Aqoustic'

00:00So you tend to try and, when we got you, we had some of that I suppose, men with their

00:12testicles or something.

00:16And doing this album you suddenly realise that, I'm not necessarily saying it was good

00:21or bad, but you have to fill up the thing.

00:23You've got this nice piece of melody, which has always been interesting with Quora, you've

00:26got this kind of cute little melody, this frigging noise, what's going on there?

00:33And we'd done a couple of three tracks, and got in there and we were doing Paper Plane,

00:38and again it just couldn't change much, it doesn't change too much, and I thought it's

00:43not going to work.

00:44Most of the ones we've tried are all very, and by the end of the day or whatever, and

00:51I stood in the control room and thought wow, because I've always liked Paper Plane as a

00:55melody.

00:56And I think that's when it dawned on everybody that I really like Paper Plane, I kind of

01:04like it more.

01:05Although it's not electric in any way, it really rocks, and the tracks like Caroline,

01:14it changes tempo three times, you know, and to do songs like And It's Better Now, we've

01:22never done live and stuff, you know, to do them on acoustic, they're so beautiful.

01:29And For You, which is always, not just because I wrote it, but it's one of my favourite songs,

01:34and to get an opportunity to do that, especially with some string sections, I mean there's

01:39been a lot of hair standing on a lot of arms, you know, wow, it's so lovely.

01:44And I actually started welling up when I was singing it, and I said well I can't have any

01:49of that, you know, do it again, and I said alright, I'll try, and I'm welling up, you

01:53know, because it brings back so many memories to me, of when I wrote it, you know, of the

01:58wonderful or bad old days, whichever you would want to call them, you know, when there were

02:04a lot of drugs around, and you know, but you know, I was thoroughly enjoying myself in

02:11those days, and as I am now in a much different way.

02:15I don't think I've ever been this enthused about something, because, I don't know, it's

02:21very difficult, until we say the shit hits the fan, literally, you know, oh blimey, that's,

02:26I know I often say that there are various things we've done in our career, sometimes

02:30they look like a fantastic, it's a great move guys, and it's got nothing to do with us,

02:36we're rocking all over the world period, people kept saying to us, that's great timing, it's

02:40nothing to do with us the timing, we started three months early, the drummer broke his

02:44foot, so things happen, so the same with this, you might, I might be talking to you next

02:49year, going Jesus, that was a mistake wasn't it, you know, how do we recover from that,

02:54and then it could be the best thing we've ever done.

02:56I think it will surprise a lot of people, because, you know, rather than, let's put

03:01some Quo on, and headbang, you can actually, I was sitting out on the terrace, because

03:07I live in Spain now, and it was a beautiful evening, and just sitting out the back, listening

03:11to this album, and a couple of the tracks, just sit there with your feet up, and they're

03:15so peaceful and tranquil, and there's a couple of tracks on there, that people are going

03:21to go, no, surely not, that can't be, like Don't Drive My Car, surely not, that can't

03:27be Sayers Quo, surely it's that different, it's so different, it sounds like Stefan Grappelli

03:34and Django Reinhardt, you know, if I may be so bold, but it's just been a great experience

03:41recording it, you know, everything's different, and I think it throws a whole different dynamic

03:46and a different colour over the band in general, you know, and I think a lot of people are

03:51going to be very surprised, there's obviously going to be some people who are going to go,

03:54what a load of shit, you know, which there always are, but you can't please everybody

03:57all the time, otherwise you'd be Madonna, wouldn't you? Don't know what I mean by that.
