History (discovery) of chloramphenicol

In 1947, a natural antibiotic was obtained from a culture of the fungus Streptomyces venezuelae called chloramphenicol.
Currently, by chemical synthesis an identical preparation of levomycetin was obtained.
Its other names are chloromycetin, chlorocide and others.
