Wolverhampton locals react to shocking Avanti train delay figures

We asked Wolverhampton residents what they're experience has been like while travelling with Avanti West Coast - who have been described as 'Britain's worst train provider'.

00:00 They're always late. Even though they're clean-ish, the toilets aren't very good, the seats aren't that comfortable.

00:08 And to be honest, I'm not surprised. We should be having better service from Avanti Trains.

00:15 Same with every other train. We should be having that better service.

00:17 They take enough money off us with train fares and everything else, they should be giving a better service.

00:23 And have you experienced delays yourself as a result?

00:25 A lot of delays, because I also volunteer for the Royal College of Nursing.

00:30 So obviously when we have to go to conferences and stuff like that, sometimes we have to go on Avanti Trains.

00:36 And it's absolutely ridiculous, the delays.

00:39 And it's, you know, they're not comfortable. They're not comfortable.

00:43 There's too many delays, to be honest.

00:45 I feel sorry for the staff, because they get it in their neck so much.

00:54 Well, I just don't think it's fair that we're expected to pay and then get cancelled two minutes before the turn up.

01:02 It's not fair on us.

01:04 And yeah, we have, but I've been late to uni so many times because of the trains being cancelled or delayed last minute.

01:16 The train service, it's fine. It's fine.

01:19 I wouldn't, like, it's been under development for a while now.

01:23 So it can be slow at times, but at the same time, it's very, it is quick.

01:28 It is quick for what I've seen in other places.

01:31 And it is very good. But it's just hill mess sometimes.

01:35 Early in the morning, late at night. You never know.

01:38 Sixth form was horrible.

01:41 Because those were the years during sixth form.

01:43 So early in the morning, packed. No seats, no nothing, packed.

01:48 So it's either packed or late. You have to pick your poison, basically.

01:53 And then to get back from school, same thing. You have to pick your poison.

01:56 You're either delayed or it's just so packed that you have to stand there.

02:00 And especially during COVID times with the mask and everything. Horrible.
