00:00 Several dozen students at the University of California Los Angeles UCLA joined the nationwide
00:08 Gaza protest encampment movement on Thursday in a peaceful demonstration.
00:13 The Palestinian Solidarity Encampment was created overnight with protesters, largely
00:18 made up of students and alumni.
00:20 This came about because we as students and other members of the UCLA community have been
00:27 seeing the six months of Israel's genocide of Palestinians, we've seen the 75 plus years
00:33 of Israeli occupation of Palestine, and we came together to make demands on the university
00:40 to divest the endowment from corporations that profit off of Israeli genocide, to disclose
00:46 where our money is invested in the first place, and to stop over-policing and collaborating
00:53 with the LAPD to target pro-Palestinian student organizing, and overall to call for an immediate
01:00 and permanent ceasefire and to stop the genocide of Palestinians.
01:11 After protesters and police clashed at the neighboring campus of the University of Southern
01:15 California in Los Angeles during a pro-Palestinian demonstration on Wednesday, Doher said there
01:21 is currently no concern for violence at the encampment.
01:25 I don't think that our concerns about our personal safety are at the forefront of our
01:32 minds right now.
01:33 I think at the forefront of our minds is the violence that Palestinians are suffering at
01:37 the hands of the Israeli state every day these last six months and last, again, almost 80
01:45 years.
01:48 The war in Gaza continues to reverberate through U.S. university campuses where students have
01:53 camped out in tents as they protested Israel's actions in Gaza.
01:59 Pro-Palestinian groups have called on universities to end investments in companies that support
02:04 or profit from Israel's military actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
