Voyager 1 spacecraft resumes sending usable data

The US Space Agency NASA is celebrating after engineers fixed a computer glitch on its Voyager 1 probe which had stopped it sending usable data back to earth.

00:00 We're hoping that both Voyager spacecraft will last until their 50th anniversary in

00:05 about three years.

00:07 And if everything goes well, we don't have any more hardware failures, it's possible

00:11 that the Voyagers could last into the 2030s.

00:15 After that, the power is going to be getting so low, we've turned off many of the systems

00:19 already that eventually the Voyagers will become silent.

00:22 And then each carries a golden record.

00:25 That record has pictures, sites and sounds of Earth, and they will become our silent

00:29 ambassadors going out into space.
