00:00There are some big snakes around the world, however, some recent fossil discoveries have
00:08revealed that even an anaconda would have paled in comparison to its prehistoric ancestors.
00:13The fossils were discovered in India, and a new analysis has revealed the creature they
00:17belong to would have clocked in at upwards of more than 49 feet long.
00:22That's more than twice the length of the largest living snakes today, which clock in at around
00:2620 feet.
00:27They're calling it Vesuci Indicus, and they say it was likely the biggest creature of
00:30its kind to ever slither around our planet.
00:33It lived some 47 million years ago during the Middle Eocene period.
00:37The fossils were found in what was once a prehistoric lake, with paleontologists discovering
00:41some 27 vertebrae.
00:43However, they say based on its skeletal structure, it likely was not an aquatic variety, nor
00:48did it live in the trees.
00:49They believe it was a slow-moving snake that would ambush its prey similar to the anaconda.
00:54At the time the snake lived, its size suggests an 82 degree climate median, which the researchers
00:59say is an important note, as it gives us a better idea of the temperatures and weather
01:03patterns in the area tens of millions of years ago.
