Part 1 of 3 of this Ruth Rendell mystery from 1995. Alice Whittaker marries Andrew Fielding, a good looking teacher nearly 10 years younger than she is, which causes more than a few eyebrows to raise in the village. Her best friend Nesta Drage is less than convinced, and later Nesta suddenly disappears. As the days pass, Alice becomes more and more concerned with Nesta's disappearance and decides to investigate herself...
Starring Eleanor David, Jane Gurnett, Peter Egan, Mark Frankel, Leslie Phillips, Rebecca Lacey, Melanie Kilburn, Damian Hunt, William Holmes, Arthur White, Joanna Kanska and Leonard Preston among the cast. This was originally broadcast on March 2th 1995, and was part of The Ruth Rendell Mysteries cannon in the mid 1990's. Although many of those mysteries varied greatly in quality, this was one of the best of the offerings. It was also one of the last things Mark Frankel (playing Andrew Fielding) did before his untimely death in a motorbike crash in 1996, aged just 34.
