A war of words at UN meet as Israel and Iran face each other over attacks

00:05 Charter and international law... General Guterres for his briefing and

00:10 acknowledged the participants... Madam President, Israel is not the boy who cried wolf. We have

00:18 been screaming from the rooftops for years trying to wake up the

00:22 international community but to no avail. If only this council would have

00:28 internalized my words it would not have needed the bone-rattling explosions of

00:34 last night's attack to wake it up. Why have you not used all possible means to

00:41 condemn Iran and demand compliance? Iran has attacked Israel from its own

00:47 sovereign territory publicly and proudly. This attack crossed every red line and

00:54 Israel reserves the legal right to retaliate. We are not a frog in boiling

01:00 water. We are a nation of lions. Following such a massive and direct attack on

01:07 Israel the entire world, let alone Israel, cannot settle for inaction. We will

01:13 defend our future. No more red carpet treatment here at the UN. No more

01:19 appeasement. Today the council must take action. I'm positive to the

01:24 representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iran's operation was entirely in

01:29 the exercise of Iran's inherent right to self-defense as outlined in Article 51

01:36 of the Charter of the United Nations and recognized by international law. This

01:43 concluded action was necessary and proportionate. It was precise and only

01:50 targeted military objectives and carried out carefully to minimize the potential

01:56 for escalation and prevent civilian harm. These countries, especially the United

02:02 States, have shielded Israel from any responsibility for the Gaza massacre.

02:08 While they have denied Iran's inherent right to self-defense against the

02:14 Israeli armed attack on our diplomatic premises, at the same time they

02:19 shamefully justified the Israeli massacre and genocide against the

02:23 defenseless Palestinian people under the pretext of self-defense. Regrettably, the

02:30 Security Council has failed in its duty to maintain international peace and

02:35 security. Iran has no intention of engaging in conflict with the US in the

02:42 region. We demonstrated our commitment to peace by exercising our restraint

02:49 about involving the US Army in intercepting Iranian drones and missiles

02:56 bound for military target in the occupied Palestinian territories. This

03:01 underscores our dedication to de-escalating tension and avoiding the

03:08 expansion of conflict. However, if the US initiate military operation against Iran,

03:15 its citizens, or its security and interests, Iran will use its inherent

03:21 right to respond proportionately. I thank you.
