Coventry City 2 Leeds United 1: YEP video vedict

00:07 Leeds United have fallen to a first league defeat of the calendar year and an extremely

00:12 disappointing day here as it ended in a 2-1 victory for Coventry City on a day when Leeds

00:16 just did not get going really. They did a little bit after going 2-0 down and ultimately

00:20 pulled the goal back through Joel Peru off the bench. But really it was just a lot of

00:25 huff and puff and there was a big chance to get a draw right at the end with Peru who

00:29 missed a golden opportunity. But I mean, you'd be lying if you said this was a good performance

00:33 from Leeds at all and really you've got to say Coventry probably fully deserved winners

00:37 and extremely disappointing for the Whites and disappointing the way they went behind

00:42 very, very early on. Leeds over the years have been poor at corners, have obviously

00:46 got a bit better under Daniel Farker than recently but that was just not great at all

00:50 from the corner. Rylan Melier not commanding at all at the corner, Leeds just unable to

00:54 clear it and LS Sims headed home to put Coventry 1-0 up and obviously imagine this place went

00:59 bonkers and Coventry continued to cause a threat and Leeds just didn't get going. There

01:04 were a couple of chances before, Andy Archie Gray got into the box, Bamford put one wide

01:08 up front. They didn't have a very good game at all but not anybody did really to be honest.

01:13 Apart from me, you would say maybe Matteo Joseph who came off the bench and yet again

01:16 had a very big impact, very good run to start the move for the goal, good work from Giorgio

01:21 Routier, another one who had a very disappointing day but he was pretty good for the goal, teeing

01:26 up Carew with a lovely finish and that made it 2-1. This was in response to Coventry going

01:31 2-0 up straight after the break from a Leeds free kick at corner, counter-attack, rapid

01:37 counter-attack, worked the ball down the right and then into the box for Hadjirait to convert

01:42 and that was 2-0 and even then you kind of felt because of the way Leeds were playing

01:46 there was no way back. They ultimately did get that goal and there was plenty of time

01:49 left to go and get an equaliser or even a winner but it just never really got going

01:53 despite they did improve after the break but I mean they actually really because the first

01:56 half was very, very disappointing. Bad day of results really, not in terms of Ipswich

02:02 Town, they obviously got beat at Norwich City so that opened up a huge chance for Leeds.

02:06 They put their destiny back in their own hands, automatic destiny back in their own hands

02:10 before kick-off. Even a point would have been fine because of Leeds' goal difference but

02:13 obviously the defeat keeps that as it is and unless the City get a victory as well in their

02:17 game at home to Birmingham City leaving it late so they've obviously gone above Leeds

02:20 now as well and Leeds now find themselves out of the top two automatic promotion spots

02:25 with just five games left so something's going to have to turn. They'll have to play a bit

02:29 better than this. What you would say is that they won't come up against teams like Coventry

02:32 every week who are definitely one of the better sides in the division. Obviously they're a

02:37 bit behind up the top four and whatnot but they are a good side. I think a lot of people

02:40 coming here did fear this would be a very difficult game and that's the way it proved.

02:44 There were some plus points in injury returns, Ilya Gruev started which was good to see,

02:48 Nonto back off the bench, Connor Roberts as well and as I say Joseph another very bright

02:52 spot but it's on to Tuesday now at home to Sunderland and quite simply Leeds have to bounce

02:55 back in that and now hope some results go their way. That's all for now.
