Bridgend gives zero dog-fouling prosecutions in four years

Bridgend council have come under scrutiny after it did give out a single dog-fouling prosecution in four years, depicted neighbouring authorities giving our hundreds in the same period.

00:19 Bridgend has come under fire for the lack of notices and gave out no prosecutions, while

00:24 Rhondda Cynon Taf just next door gave out 87 prosecutions for the offences within the

00:29 same time period.

00:31 Some councillors, including independents within the authority, have said that they were startlingly

00:34 low figures, while the local democracy reporting service has said that council said they wanted

00:39 to focus on education and prevention instead of prosecution.

00:44 One Bridgend councillor said that after Covid, legal technicalities meant that there was

00:48 no prosecution system in place, so there was no legal basis to enforce notices to the public

00:53 in the authority.

00:54 A new legal basis is set to come into force later this month.
