Thwaite Watermill will close to the public from Monday 1st April as a Leeds Museums and Galleries attraction due to financial challenges.

00:00 With a final lease decision still to be taken, Thwaite Watermill, which dates back to 1641,
00:07 will close to the public as a Leeds Museums and Galleries attraction from the 1st of April.
00:12 Ending the lease on the site is projected to save the Council between £660,000 to £756,000
00:19 over the next five years, with 11,114 people visiting the venue in 2022.
00:25 In February, Council members gave approval to proceed with proposals which will help
00:30 meet the unprecedented financial challenges facing the authority.
00:34 The site will honour all existing bookings until October 2024, and Leeds City Council
00:39 will continue to work with the Canal and River Trust and other stakeholders.
00:43 The proposed closure and surrender of the lease will be published as a key decision
00:47 and subject to call-in by elected members.
00:49 It's one of the last remaining examples of a water-powered mill in Britain.
