Rockliff reassesses after minority government win (28/3/24)

00:00 We went to the election to restore certainty and stability at the election and we fell a little

00:07 short when it comes to the numbers in the House but the certainty and stability remains and that

00:13 was a clear message from the Tasmanian people. The Tasmanian people have voted for the new

00:18 parliament and it's important that each member of parliament respects the will of the people

00:24 and also work together in the best interests of all Tasmanians. Every political party going to an

00:31 election would want a majority quite clearly but also I recognise that Tasmanians have spoken,

00:38 they've cast their vote, they gave our government a bit of a kick. We need to do better as a

00:43 government and that was a very clear message and I reflected on that on election night and indeed

00:49 the following day as well and we will be a good government and we will deliver a 2030 strong plan

00:55 for Tasmania's future and look forward to all the parliament working together, putting aside

01:03 differences and ensuring that we're there for the Tasmanian people and providing that certainty

01:09 and stability but also ensuring that people's needs and aspirations are well and truly on the

01:17 agenda. I do want to acknowledge Ms White's contribution as leader of the opposition.

01:24 As I said prior to the election, Ms White and I get on well outside the parliament of course and

01:31 sometimes within the parliament I'd have to say and Ms White was a leader of the Labor Party.

01:37 Ms White is a true Labor believer. I acknowledge and respect that and her contribution and being

01:44 a leader of a political party, a leader of the opposition in Ms White's case is a very,

01:50 very challenging and difficult task and I believe that Ms White can hold her head up high and

01:57 I wish her well with future endeavours.
