00:00 I'm late 50s, out of condition, overweight, all of those things and I had to do something about my
00:06 life. I had to and this was a great opportunity. The surgery invited me with a text message
00:11 and I thought why not give it a go. Week one was bizarre running for one minute and I thought how
00:17 on earth am I going to do 5k but here we are today 5k good job done let's carry on of course we're
00:22 not going to stop. I had high blood pressure to start with it was 142 over 84 and my most recent
00:30 measurement is 116 over 66 now I believe that's what it was. Heart rate's come down, our heart
00:37 has improved tremendously and today I've lost half a stone so yeah that's that's a great achievement.
00:44 I retired early because of high blood pressure mainly because the job that type of job that I
00:49 did but I knew that I was overweight. In my first year of retirement I tried to go to the gym and
00:59 but when I went to the doctors for my annual checkup I'd actually put on weight. I did this
01:05 I did this and this has really sort of transformed my health. I wanted to try and
01:15 be have stronger legs and lose a little bit of weight and just just feel fitter generally like
01:20 when you go on holiday and that and you want to go and do excursions and that sometimes you're a
01:24 bit out of breath going up all these stairs and I just wanted to have a bigger bigger level of
01:28 fitness. That first couple of weeks just doing little tiny laps around the car park to this
01:33 it's been amazing really. It's so inspirational being with all these people who a lot of are
01:39 over 50 over 60 and they're just they all drive you on and they all sort of give you a reason
01:43 you know to get up and go for it. It's been brilliant. I'm going through perimenopause
01:48 at the moment so I've reached that stage of my life and was really struggling to lose weight
01:52 and to have this opportunity to do the beginners to runners I thought I've got nothing to lose
01:59 and came along and it's been amazing. I've lost nearly half a stone. I think it's probably one
02:06 of the best things that the NHS have done to be more proactive rather than reactive
02:12 to help people improve their health and general well-being. I think that can only be a good thing
02:17 to to encourage people to make that change before they become ill and surely that's going to save
02:23 the NHS a lot of money in the future so yeah and I think it's an excellent idea.
