00:00Hello and welcome to Kent Tonight, live here on KMTV.
00:28I'm Finn McDermid and here are your top stories on Friday, the 16th of January.
00:34Treading water as Tunbridge Wells gets its supply back,
00:37locals worry about how future losses could impact their daily lives.
00:41In the last 10 days, really all I've done is water issues.
00:46Out of order, council-owned accessible toilet left unclean and described as unusable
00:51by one disabled resident in Medway.
00:54The worst one I've ever seen is this one here.
00:57It hasn't been cleaned out, it's absolutely rotten.
01:01A new year, new me, we find out if residents of Kent have been sticking to their resolutions.
01:06So I think the biggest thing is when people join the gym in January,
01:09they're highly motivated because it is January.
01:11Motivation is a very fleeting emotion, so it comes and goes.
01:14And for our top story this evening, Tunbridge Wells residents are breathing a sigh of relief today
01:29as water has mostly been restored to their taps.
01:32It brings an end to five dry days for residents there,
01:35as well as in patches across Kent and East Sussex,
01:39with education facilities, doctors, farms and businesses particularly feeling the stress.
01:44And as criticisms reach peak levels for South East water bosses,
01:47we're taking a look at how confident residents feel that the taps will stay on for now.
01:52Chloe Brewster has this report.
01:54I thought it was only right to end the week back where we started.
01:57It's Tunbridge Wells Rugby Club water bottle station where they're now packing up.
02:01Residents here have their water back, but is there trust it will stay that way?
02:05When it comes to the actual transparency, I don't think there is enough.
02:10And, you know, as a company, I'm sure they have rights to withhold information.
02:15But from just a human point of view, to know if you're going to have water,
02:20when you can next have it.
02:21And, you know, we're paying for a service.
02:24From our point of view, or certainly my point of view,
02:27there's been a lot of communication, but it's just fluff.
02:30All it seems that they've done is switched off water
02:34in order to enable the reservoir to be filled to a level
02:37which is going to make it more sustainable.
02:40But as far as I'm aware, they reached this position back in late December,
02:46early January, and one bout of cold weather
02:49and some windy weather in another part of the country
02:53was all it took really to destabilise that.
02:56So whether or not this is, I can't see that this is a permanent fix.
03:02Let's hope that I can crack on and focus on, you know,
03:06continuing to make this school, you know,
03:08a fantastic learning experience for the children
03:11rather than just one where they've got flushing toilets and taps.
03:15Although I'm going to say teachers have done an amazing job
03:18and teachers and teachers of keeping the learning
03:20at the same fantastic level that it is usually.
03:23Other dairy farmers have said that, you know,
03:25the dairies are, if not more, reliant on water than what we are.
03:32And they, you know, it's in their day-to-day routines,
03:34you know, washing down, etc.
03:36They turn around and say they're going to bring tankers,
03:39they're going to supply different lines in, etc.
03:42And that doesn't happen.
03:43As water has returned to many areas in Kent,
03:46calls continue for South East Water Boss to resign.
03:48All water companies in the UK have the same regulation.
03:53So the question is, why is South East Water
03:55the worst performing water company in the country?
03:58And the answer to that is appalling leadership.
04:02And this is why I've been calling on the investors
04:04to sack the board and the leadership.
04:07South East Water's incident manager, Matthew Dean, said,
04:10water suppliers have now been restored to the 6,500 properties
04:14in the Tunbridge Wells area.
04:16We are very sorry to every single one of our customers
04:18who have been affected.
04:20We know and understand how difficult going about water
04:22for such a long period of time is
04:24and how difficult it makes everyday life.
04:27And as people start enjoying flowing water once again,
04:30eyes will be laser-focused on the leadership of South East Water.
04:34Chloe Brewster for KMTV in Tunbridge Wells.
04:36Next, Biddenden residents say they're worried
04:40that construction trucks heading for a nearby golf course
04:43will shake their houses to bits.
04:45Charthills Golf Club's new driving range
04:47has new proposals put to Ashford Borough Council
04:50to remodel it.
04:51But concerns have been raised that residents
04:52will be forced to endure 30 months of the works,
04:55with a truck potentially driving by every six minutes.
04:59Many have also raised concerns their homes
05:00would simply not be structurally sound enough
05:02due to their age to withstand large vehicles passing by.
05:06The planning documents themselves say
05:08the proposed development would provide
05:09a range of mitigation measures
05:11to avoid a severe cumulative residential impact.
05:15A development company is facing backlash
05:17after proposing to build 154 homes
05:20in Eyestead Rise near Gravesend.
05:22Esquire Developments has submitted an application
05:24to Gravesham Council seeking permission
05:26to build those new homes on land south of Downs Road.
05:30Angry residents have already gathered 250 objections
05:32since Monday and are holding a public drop-in session
05:35to coordinate plans for their opposition.
05:37The site is outside the limit
05:39to build development for the area
05:41and is entirely in the green belt.
05:43But Esquire argues that since it sits
05:46immediately adjacent to Eyestead Rose Primary School,
05:49it is in a highly sustainable position.
05:54Next, we'll be bringing you a story
05:56about a public toilet in Chatham.
05:58It's been described by a resident
06:00as absolutely rotten
06:02and he believes it hasn't even been cleaned for months.
06:06Those quotes come from Robert Kelly
06:08who relies on accessible toilets.
06:11He originally complained to Medway Council
06:13all the way back in October,
06:15asking them to clean the disabled facilities
06:17at Luton Recreation.
06:20By January, he found there had been no such change.
06:24That area is used not just by locals,
06:27it's also a football pitch that is often used.
06:30So there were plenty of concerns to be raised
06:33and Megan Shaw went down there
06:35to meet him and see the toilet for herself.
06:37Disgusting and absolutely rotten.
06:40Not words you'd want to use
06:42to describe an accessible bathroom.
06:45But for Robert Kelly,
06:46who's disabled and relies on public loos,
06:49he's branded the ones at Luton Rec in Chatham
06:51as unusable.
06:53Strong words from a man
06:54who used to clean toilets for a living.
06:57I've got an over-wrecked bladder as well,
06:59but the worst one I've ever seen
07:01is this one here.
07:03It hasn't been cleaned out,
07:05it's absolutely rotten,
07:06it's disgusting,
07:07it smells a little bit.
07:08They're not being cleaned,
07:09they're not even coming nowhere near them.
07:11And them ones in there
07:12are absolutely disgusting.
07:13You're talking the toilets are actually black.
07:16And I don't mean with dirt or anything like that,
07:17they're actually black on the inside of it.
07:19Upon discovering the state of the accessible bathroom
07:22and seeing it was unusable,
07:24Robert rang up the council.
07:26Medway Council directed him to Medway North,
07:28who directed him back to the council.
07:30He then went into the Medway Council building
07:33and showed them the photos
07:34of what he'd seen in October.
07:37They did nothing.
07:38Now, it's been three months,
07:39it's now January,
07:41so let's take a look at the bathroom
07:42and see if its condition has improved.
07:45And here's what I saw
07:46when I went to the lavatory for myself.
07:48Dirty tissues strewn on the floor,
07:51an unhygienic sink
07:52and no hand soap in sight,
07:54alongside things I'm unable to show.
07:57Although this is a major disruption
07:59to Robert's life,
08:00he's also concerned for the wider community.
08:03Well, all I would like Medway County to do
08:04is actually do something about it,
08:06clean them down
08:06so they're respectable
08:08for people with disabilities.
08:11Especially those ones in wheelchairs
08:12so we can actually use them
08:13and go into a clean environment
08:15rather than having a lot of germs
08:17about hygiene.
08:19In fact, it's one of the worst ones I've ever seen.
08:21If that was one of my ones
08:22where I was working,
08:23we would have got it in the next straightaway
08:25for our supervisors and our managers.
08:27That is unacceptable.
08:29It's absolutely filthy.
08:30When I approached Medway Council,
08:32they explained,
08:33we apologise to Mr Kelly
08:35for any inconvenience caused.
08:37A cleaner has been asked to attend
08:39as soon as possible
08:40and the site has now been raised
08:42with the appropriate teams
08:43at the council to look into.
08:45This was on Wednesday.
08:46When I went back today on Friday with Robert,
08:49there was no change yet to be made.
08:51But we can only hope
08:53that Medway Council
08:54manages to scrub up sooner
08:56rather than later.
08:58Megan Shaw for CAME TV in Chatham.
09:01Now, flood warnings
09:03were in place along the River Medway
09:05from Forest Row to Maidstone
09:06after heavy rain yesterday.
09:08The Environment Agency
09:09is urging residents
09:10to follow their flood plans
09:11and avoid walking, cycling
09:12or driving through flood water.
09:14This comes as river levels are high,
09:16particularly around footpaths
09:18and riverside areas in Maidstone.
09:20Authorities continue to monitor the situation
09:22and advise extra caution
09:23for anyone in affected areas.
09:26Kristen Hawthorne joins me now
09:27to tell me more.
09:28So, Kristen,
09:29where are the flood warnings
09:31in place for?
09:31I'm aware they've very recently
09:33been altered.
09:35Yes.
09:35So, like you said there,
09:37the Met Office
09:38or the Environment Agency,
09:39sorry,
09:39have been monitoring
09:40this throughout the day
09:41as have I
09:42on their website.
09:44But just before we went live here,
09:47before I joined you,
09:48they've taken the flood alert
09:50away from basically
09:52the upper, middle
09:53and lower parts of the river.
09:57And it's now just a flood alert
09:58for the upper River Medway.
10:00This was because of the heavy rain
10:02that fell yesterday,
10:03Thursday the 15th of January,
10:04that caused the 13-hour rain warning.
10:07River levels remain high
10:10leading to flooding
10:10of low-lying land
10:13and roads,
10:14particularly around roads,
10:16especially areas
10:17of Bowls Green,
10:19Ashhurst
10:19and Penhurst.
10:21So those are the areas
10:22to be particularly
10:23looking out for
10:24this evening.
10:25I see.
10:26And for anyone
10:26who lives in those areas
10:28or might be planning on
10:28travelling through those areas,
10:29what are some recommendations
10:30that they can take on board
10:31to try and stay safe?
10:32Yes.
10:33So, while the Environment Agency
10:34continues to monitor rainfall
10:35and the river levels,
10:37which have been falling
10:38over the past few hours,
10:39probably why they've now
10:40taken the alert away,
10:42they recommend taking care
10:43to avoid walking, cycling
10:45or driving through flood water.
10:47If you are in an area
10:48that's affected,
10:49make sure that you have
10:50your insurance
10:50and medications accessible
10:51and move livestock
10:53and farming equipment
10:54away from flood-prone areas.
10:56I see.
10:57Now, tell me a bit
10:58about the levels of the water.
11:00You mentioned there,
11:01obviously,
11:01that the alert
11:03has been sort of pulled back
11:04and only restricted
11:06that upper part of the river.
11:07Tell me a bit about the levels.
11:09Yes.
11:09So, the levels have been falling.
11:11They were at their highest
11:12at around 12.45,
11:151 p.m. this afternoon.
11:18But, so, I mean,
11:19if you were driving
11:21through those areas
11:21and you did find yourself
11:22driving through that flood water,
11:24I found some recommendations
11:26to make sure
11:26that your car is okay.
11:27So, you might want to check
11:29for water in your oil,
11:31which would be a major issue.
11:33So, hopefully,
11:33you don't have that.
11:34Test your brakes lightly
11:36to make sure
11:37that they're okay.
11:38You might want to dry them as well.
11:39And dry out the interior
11:40to prevent mould
11:41and possibly rust as well.
11:43So, a few things to do there.
11:45I see.
11:45Thank you so much, Kristen.
11:47That's all the time
11:48we have for now.
11:49Time for a short break
11:50and we'll see you
11:50in a few minutes.
11:51We'll see you next time.
14:51Hello, and welcome back to Kent Tonight,
15:16live here on KMTV.
15:17Now, let's take a quick look
15:19at the sports news
15:20from around the county.
15:21First up, Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth
15:33has said there's no need to panic
15:34as the club keeps calm
15:36during the January transfer season.
15:39Two weeks without a game,
15:40the club haven't made any moves
15:41to bring on new players.
15:43But Gillingham have said
15:44there is no need to worry,
15:45with Ainsworth claiming,
15:46it's about my 30th transfer window now in football management.
15:49There's no way that you'd start panicking.
15:51The club have said the lack of games
15:53has given the backroom staff
15:54more time to look for targets
15:56to help with their goal-scoring troubles.
15:59Two ice hockey now.
16:00The Invicta Dynamos beat the Solon Devils
16:023-0 in the National Ice Hockey League
16:04South Division 1.
16:06Coach Carl Lennon,
16:07who's still serving the second
16:08of a four-game suspension
16:10after a bench-clearing brawl with Slough Jets,
16:12has taken a back seat,
16:13while Kevin Parrish is leading the Dynamos
16:15from the benches.
16:16Lennon said,
16:17I was quite fortunate to have a good friend
16:19and owner to help me out with Parrish
16:20back on the bench
16:21after what he thinks was six or seven years away.
16:25He added that Parrish has done
16:26a fantastic job leading the team.
16:28A couple of the things he did
16:29through the management of the game
16:30were exactly my thinking
16:32and that that was reassuring.
16:34As for the players,
16:34Danny Gatenby and Luca Pascal
16:36scored in the opening period
16:37with the second session littered
16:39with penalties,
16:40ending goalless with the Moes
16:41adding an empty net goal
16:42to seal the late win
16:43in the third period.
16:45The Chatham Town women's team
16:47are on a record-breaking run
16:49in the FA Cup,
16:50reaching the fourth round
16:51after a memorable victory
16:52against Sutton United
16:53in the previous round.
16:55They're now preparing
16:55for their clash
16:56against York City this Sunday
16:57in hopes of acquiring a place
16:58in the last 16.
17:00But how can we encourage
17:01more members of the public
17:02to go to games
17:03and support their local
17:04women's side?
17:04Well, to answer that question,
17:06I was joined earlier
17:07with the head
17:07for Chatham's youth teams,
17:09Kelly Robinson,
17:09to tell me more about the club
17:10and its preparations.
17:12Thank you so much
17:13for joining me, Kelly.
17:14Firstly,
17:15after the women's victory
17:16against Sutton
17:16in the previous round
17:18of the Cup
17:18and the men's victory
17:19in the FA Trophy
17:20last Saturday
17:21at Carlisle,
17:22you must have put
17:22the whole club
17:23in high spirits.
17:24tell us a bit about
17:25how the team feels
17:25right now.
17:27Yeah, so there's a great buzz
17:29around the club
17:29at the moment.
17:30Two massive games
17:32now to be obviously had.
17:34So this Sunday,
17:35we've got the women
17:36FA Cup fourth round,
17:38which is obviously
17:39versus York City.
17:40Then at the end
17:41of the month,
17:42we've then got
17:43Southend United
17:44coming down
17:45for the FA Trophy.
17:46So it's huge,
17:47a huge January
17:48for the club.
17:49And the buzz around
17:50the club is
17:51something special
17:52right now.
17:54Absolutely.
17:54And you have
17:55a lot of insight
17:56into the teams.
17:57How are the women's
17:58preparations for the
17:58upcoming clash
17:59against York going?
18:00Tell us about that.
18:02They're good.
18:03Usual training,
18:04usual.
18:05They're not doing
18:06anything different.
18:07We're just going to
18:08go out and we're going
18:09to do exactly
18:09what we have done
18:10and we're going
18:11to give it our all.
18:13Absolutely.
18:13And the team have
18:15an FA Cup winning
18:16manager in Keith Bonus.
18:18How do you think
18:18that's helping
18:19the team's spirits
18:20towards this clash
18:21which, you know,
18:21is historic
18:22for the club?
18:24Keith is an amazing
18:25person.
18:26If anything,
18:27he's going to
18:28teach them
18:29to be humble
18:31with their wins
18:31so far,
18:32but also at the
18:33same time
18:34to go out
18:35and give everything
18:35they've got
18:36to keep the winning
18:37momentum going.
18:38Keith knows
18:39what he's doing.
18:40He's the best person
18:41who knows
18:43how to control
18:43this team
18:44and get them
18:44to where they are.
18:46So we let Keith
18:47deal with that one.
18:49I see.
18:50The club chairman,
18:51Kevin Hake,
18:52he's urged fans
18:52to show the same
18:53amount of support
18:54for the women's game
18:54as they did
18:55for the men's
18:56last Saturday.
18:57What are some
18:57more ways
18:58that Chatham
18:59are trying to get
18:59more local fans
19:00at the women's game?
19:01So we've gone out
19:04to all the girls
19:05teams,
19:06the Kent FA.
19:07We're now doing
19:08Project 1000,
19:09so we want to get
19:10the highest attendance
19:11for a women's team
19:12in Kent
19:13this Sunday.
19:15We've got our own
19:16teams coming along.
19:18We've encouraged
19:18any opponents,
19:20and obviously the
19:21Kent FA have put it
19:22all over their
19:23social media.
19:23it's about everyone
19:25talking and everyone
19:26just,
19:26no matter what
19:27you're doing,
19:28if you've got the
19:29time,
19:29it's one o'clock,
19:30it's free entry
19:31for under-16s
19:32because at the end
19:33of the day,
19:33it's the under-16
19:34players that are
19:35going to build
19:36the future for
19:37Chatham,
19:38the Lionesses,
19:40all the other
19:40teams.
19:40So we really want
19:41to encourage anyone
19:42who loves football,
19:44no matter if you're
19:45men's youth,
19:46female youth,
19:48come down,
19:48and it's definitely
19:49going to be a
19:49great afternoon.
19:51I see,
19:51and you head up
19:52a lot of the
19:53youth sides
19:53for the Chats.
19:54Tell me a bit
19:55about the atmosphere
19:56among the youth
19:56sides.
19:57Is it great for
19:58them to see
19:58that their
19:59women's team
20:00are in the
20:00FA Cup fourth
20:01round?
20:01Tell me a bit
20:01about what
20:02they've been
20:02saying.
20:04The girls
20:05are so excited.
20:06So they've also
20:07been given the
20:07opportunity to be
20:09mascots,
20:10ball girls,
20:11you name it,
20:11we want to get
20:12them involved.
20:13A couple of,
20:15well,
20:15probably over a
20:16month ago,
20:16we had the
20:17FA Cup draw
20:18actually done
20:18live at the
20:19club.
20:20The girls
20:21were so excited.
20:22It was like
20:22they'd never
20:22seen a camera
20:23crew before.
20:24They absolutely
20:25loved it.
20:25And the
20:26women's team
20:27really includes
20:28our youth.
20:29So whenever
20:30they get the
20:31opportunity to
20:31speak to a
20:32player in the
20:33youth or have
20:35a trial with
20:36them or do
20:36something with
20:37them, the
20:37women's team
20:38are just always
20:38there and they
20:39love getting
20:40involved with
20:40our youth
20:41teams.
20:48Now it's
20:51time for a
20:51look at the
20:52weather for
20:52the coming
20:53days.
20:58A moderate
20:59night with
20:59a temperature
21:00of 8 degrees
21:00spread all
21:01over Kent
21:01tonight.
21:02The cloudy
21:02skies seen
21:03across the
21:03county.
21:04Into
21:05tomorrow
21:05morning
21:05becoming
21:06a bit
21:06cloudier.
21:07Temperatures
21:07remaining at
21:088 degrees
21:09all across
21:09the region.
21:10Wind
21:10speeds of
21:106.
21:11Into
21:11the afternoon
21:12cloudy
21:12skies
21:13remaining
21:13again but
21:14temperatures
21:14rising now
21:15to 9
21:15and 10
21:16degrees.
21:16Wind
21:16speeds
21:17staying
21:17consistent
21:17throughout
21:18the day.
21:19And here
21:19is your
21:20outlook.
21:21Looking still
21:21quite mild.
21:2211 degrees
21:22on Sunday
21:23and Monday
21:24with only
21:24some sun
21:25peaking out.
21:26Getting
21:26slightly milder
21:27on Tuesday.
21:28A little
21:28more sun
21:28there but
21:29it's a little
21:30colder.
21:34Now don't
21:34forget you can
21:35keep up to
21:35date with all
21:36your latest
21:36stories across
21:37Kent by
21:37logging on to
21:38our website
21:38kmtv.co.uk
21:40There you'll
21:41find all our
21:41reports including
21:42this one about
21:43a Nigerian
21:43artist painting
21:44the feeling
21:45of migration
21:45using Formula
21:46One helmets
21:47in Rochester.
21:48What does
21:49self-protection
21:50look like when
21:51you're new to
21:51an environment
21:52that's unfamiliar?
21:54Well for
21:54Nigerian visual
21:55artist Abelore
21:56Sabayo
21:57self-protection
21:58comes in the
21:59form of a
22:00helmet.
22:01In his latest
22:02art series
22:02Reflection
22:03Abelore explores
22:05how the
22:05helmet or
22:06Okoto in
22:07Yoruba can
22:08be used as a
22:09metaphor for
22:10the complex
22:10realities of
22:11migration.
22:13This exhibition
22:13is in the
22:14Royal Engineering
22:15Museum in the
22:16heart of
22:16Medway.
22:17Now the
22:17artist has
22:18taken inspiration
22:18from Formula
22:19One helmets
22:20which are known
22:20for being
22:21bash and
22:22colourful and
22:22full of
22:23messages from
22:24the drivers
22:24and their
22:25sponsors.
22:26In this
22:26instance the
22:27artist uses
22:28the helmet as
22:28a way to
22:29convey his
22:29message about
22:31his perspective
22:31on migration
22:32to the
22:32Kent community.
22:34Most of the
22:34people when
22:35you talk about
22:35migration focuses
22:36only on people
22:37seeking asylum
22:38which migration
22:40for me is far
22:41beyond that.
22:42For migrants
22:42the helmet is
22:43to protect
22:44your cultural
22:45identity while
22:47you are assimilating
22:48the new culture
22:48from where you
22:49are coming
22:50into.
22:51The helmet is
22:52taking its
22:52form of
22:53protection for
22:54you from the
22:54fast lane,
22:55from the new
22:56journey you're
22:57taking, the
22:58place of
22:58unknown where
22:59you're going
22:59to.
22:59Avalore uses
23:01Nigeria, his
23:02home country and
23:03his own personal
23:04experiences as a
23:05migrant as
23:06inspiration for
23:07some of his
23:07artwork and in
23:08the visor of the
23:09helmet he paints
23:11a reflection of a
23:11memory or a
23:13reality a migrant
23:14may face while
23:15living away from
23:15home.
23:17Members of the
23:17museum thought the
23:18exhibition is
23:19important to the
23:20many communities
23:21in Kent.
23:22It's opening up
23:24this community
23:24to other people
23:26so a lot of the
23:27idea of this
23:28space is to get
23:29people who don't
23:31have a place to
23:33display their work
23:34or to display their
23:35ideas to give them
23:36this space within
23:38the heart of Medway
23:39and it really opens
23:41up an audience,
23:43a new audience.
23:44Avalore hopes that
23:45his exhibition can
23:46encourage communities
23:47to reflect on the
23:48emotional and
23:49cultural layers of
23:50migration and to
23:52also consider what
23:53we would choose to
23:53protect when we
23:54enter the unknown.
23:56Naila Mohamed for
23:57KMTV.
24:00Now according to
24:01the charity Mind
24:02people generally give
24:03up on their New
24:04Year's resolutions
24:05two to three weeks
24:06into the new year.
24:07The owner of
24:08Sisu Fitness here
24:09in Medway has been
24:10giving us some
24:10advice on how to
24:11stay consistent in
24:12our goals especially
24:13when it comes to
24:14exercise.
24:15Our reporter Maisie
24:16Walker has more.
24:17A New Year's
24:18resolution is a
24:19personal promise or
24:20goal people set at
24:21the start of a year
24:22to improve themselves.
24:24These resolutions
24:24often focus on
24:26building positive
24:27habits, breaking bad
24:28ones or working
24:29toward personal
24:30growth.
24:31However many people
24:32abandon their
24:33resolutions within
24:35just a few weeks.
24:37Now my New Year's
24:38resolution was to
24:38stay active but how
24:40easy is it to
24:41actually stay
24:41motivated?
24:43This is actually a
24:43really big problem
24:44because the gym is a
24:45scary place.
24:46If it's not your
24:47comfortable environment
24:48and you're stepping
24:49into a gym with
24:49hundreds or even
24:50thousands of people
24:51there potentially it
24:52is overwhelming.
24:53You are going to
24:53feel uncomfortable.
24:54So my best piece of
24:55advice would either
24:56get a gym buddy you
24:57can go with, maybe
24:58visit quieter times if
25:00you can or even go
25:01down the road of a
25:03personal trainer or
25:04things like we do
25:04here like group
25:05coaching where you're
25:06with a qualified
25:07professional and they
25:09can help build your
25:09confidence in the gym
25:11so then you can
25:11potentially go on and
25:12do it yourself in the
25:13future.
25:13The biggest thing is
25:14when people join the
25:15gym in January
25:15they're highly
25:16motivated because it
25:17is January but
25:18motivation is a very
25:19fleeting emotion so it
25:20comes and goes.
25:21I think as soon as
25:22people maybe understand
25:23that you're not going
25:24to be motivated all
25:24the time and then if
25:25you go to the gym
25:26when you're not
25:27motivated I see that
25:28as disciplined and
25:30that is actually what
25:30yields greater results
25:31than just relying on
25:32motivation alone.
25:33I spoke with local
25:34residents of Rochester
25:35about their New
25:36Year's resolutions and
25:38how they're sticking to
25:39them so far.
25:40To be a better person
25:41than I was last year
25:42mind and body.
25:43I feel like it's
25:44something that even
25:45though you try to
25:46achieve you won't
25:47until you let go in
25:49a way.
25:50Let go of something.
25:51For me it's like I
25:52need to let go of
25:53past stuff to move on
25:54with my future.
25:56It would be to have
25:58more education for
25:59myself and to enjoy
26:02my life.
26:03To hit one 80kg on
26:05the bench press.
26:06My New Year's
26:08resolution is to get
26:09fitter even because
26:11I'm more conscious of
26:13my diet and my
26:15health even at this
26:16ripe old age that I
26:18am.
26:19So yes as much as I
26:21can possibly do I
26:22want to do.
26:24As for me I'll keep
26:25working towards my
26:26own goal completing
26:28one pull up but
26:30that's assuming I can
26:31ever reach the bar.
26:32Maysie Walker for
26:35KMTV, Rochester.
26:38Well hopefully like
26:39Maysie you're all out
26:40there giving your New
26:41Year's resolutions a
26:42good go but that is all
26:44the time we have for
26:44now.
26:45Thank you so much for
26:45watching and we'll see
26:46you soon.
27:02I'll see you soon.
