Popeyes Employee Learns A Lesson After Being Arrested

Officers responded to Popeyes Chicken in reference to a reported theft.

Upon arrival, officers identified the caller and acting authorized representative, employee. The employee advised that on the previous day (12-18-2021), an employee, the suspect, took two twenty dollar bills from a stack of cash that was left unattended after being counted out of the register. The employee provided video evidence of the suspect taking the money. The employee advised that the business would like to press charges on the suspect.

The video shows the suspect entering the manager's office at 10:11.57 on the 18th (according to the video time stamp) and taking two bills off of the desk. The suspect appears to look at the surveillance monitor after taking the cash for a moment but then leave the office and put the cash in his right back pocket.

The suspect was approached in the restaurant kitchen and taken into custody without incident (handcuffed behind the back and double locked). The suspect was then escorted out to a unit's car and his person was searched incident to arrest. The only items of note found on the suspects person was a cut straw and burnt tinfoil. The suspect was not charged with possession of drug related objects.

While the suspect was being searched, units only asked him what his last name was. After the suspect Identified himself, he asked about his charges. Units informed him that he was under arrest for theft by taking and that there was video evidence of him taking cash from the office. The suspect volunteered that he had an agreement with his boss that the suspect would take some money and that it would be deducted from his check. Units then informed the suspect that his boss was the one that wanted charges pressed against him. When central identified the suspect, they advised units that the suspect also had local probation violation warrants for possession of cocaine.
