00:02 20 seasons.
00:03 Wow.
00:04 Oh my gosh.
00:05 20.
00:07 I remember watching the pilot of "Grey's Anatomy"
00:10 a long time ago and thinking, I'd love to be a part of it.
00:13 And now, I got to go back in time
00:16 and tell that version of myself.
00:18 It's going to happen.
00:19 So I was coming into this untitled Shonda Rhimes project.
00:22 It was never going to go anywhere.
00:24 But the pilot was going to help me pay off my credit cards.
00:27 It was at one time called "Surgeons."
00:30 And finally, they had an epiphany.
00:33 Let's call it "Grey's Anatomy."
00:36 Just to be asked to be a part of something like this,
00:39 it feels like standing on the shoulder of giants.
00:42 20 seasons?
00:43 It says that the world needs real people.
00:47 The world needs real stories.
00:49 To have a show where we've been doing 24 episodes
00:53 and it's been going for 20 years,
00:56 it's lightning in a bottle.
00:57 A lot of actors are working hard to try to get to anything.
01:01 To land here on "Grey's Anatomy," it's just--
01:05 it's a miracle.
01:06 From watching the first season as an audience member
01:10 to being part of this now in the 20th season,
01:13 it's really incredible.
01:15 The thing I remember about my first day on set
01:17 was actually coming face to face with Patrick Dempsey, who
01:21 plays my big brother, realizing how good the casting was.
01:25 Because we looked like we were genuinely siblings,
01:29 like actually family.
01:31 Oh, my first day on set was incredible.
01:33 I was terrified.
01:35 And I remember seeing Sandra Oh get up from the table.
01:39 She walked all the way around the table
01:41 and gave me a huge hug.
01:44 And it was sort of from that moment I was like,
01:46 oh, welcome to "Grey's Anatomy."
01:49 You know, as someone who's been here since the first season,
01:51 season one, it's just--
01:52 Yeah. You look great, by the way.
01:54 Wow.
01:54 Yeah.
01:55 All I remember is my first big scene was in the ER.
01:58 So medical, medical, medical, people, doctors, everybody,
02:01 right?
02:02 And I was literally like, oh, this is
02:04 going to be the best show ever.
02:05 12 seasons ago, I remember getting lost in the hospital.
02:10 It's been 12 years, and I still get lost.
02:13 It's really about people trying to give their best each day
02:17 in very challenging circumstances,
02:19 and the humanity of that, and the comedy in that,
02:21 and the tragedy in that, and everything rolled into one.
02:24 Looking around and seeing all of these amazing actors
02:27 that I had been fans of, to take this journey here with them,
02:30 and I think I was most excited about that as an actor.
02:35 The fans of "Grey's Anatomy" are extraordinary.
02:39 Going into the 20th season, I'd like to say to the fans,
02:42 thank you.
02:43 Thank you for loving us so much, though we have a season 20.
02:47 To our fans, I just want to say we love you,
02:50 and we're so grateful that you're here with us.
02:52 I feel like the fans really welcomed us,
02:53 and were very gracious about this new gaggle, this new group
02:58 entering the show.
02:59 Thank you for introducing our show to younger
03:02 generations in your families.
03:03 Thank you to the fans of "Grey's Anatomy"
03:07 for staying with us all this year, for keeping it fresh,
03:10 for staying involved.
03:11 Thank you for your investment in our OG characters
03:14 that have been here.
03:15 Thank you for your investment in our new babies,
03:18 so you'll get to see a little bit more of them.
03:20 It's all because of you guys that we get to be here and do
03:23 what we love, love, love, love to do.
03:26 And the reason we love it is connecting with you,
03:29 and we promise not to let you down.
03:32 [MUSIC PLAYING]
