It's great to be here today to start the Norton's Gap Landslip job.
00:10
Here with CMC, the head contractor for this job.
00:13
They'll also be working with a lot of subcontractors
00:15
and employing local people.
00:18
We can see today there's a team here, CMC and Geotext
00:22
and we've had a number of people involved
00:25
in getting us to where we are today.
00:27
We do also want to acknowledge the Transport for New South Wales officers
00:33
who've been involved through the journey, Anna Zickey, Dan Champness
00:36
and a range of others who've been on this site
00:39
and have helped us to secure the funding that we need.
00:44
We've got about $12 million in natural disaster funding
00:48
and $3 million in betterment funding
00:51
so that we can both fix the road, secure it
00:55
and minimise the risk of what's uphill from us here
01:00
coming down and impacting the road again in the future.
01:02
CMC are thrilled to start the commencement of these works here
01:05
at Norton's Gap project for Richmond Valley Council.
01:08
We've spent the last four months designing these works
01:10
with our design partners, BG&E and our geotech partners, FSG.
01:14
Bring together a skilled and experienced team
01:16
to design and construct this project for the council.
01:20
Our works include the construction of a bored pile wall
01:23
with the piles being up to 13 metres deep into three metres of bedrock.
01:28
At the completion of the work, the roads will be rebuilt
01:31
to secure this section of the road against future landslips.
01:35
It'll be great to have this road reopened, hopefully by the end of the year.
01:39
It's been three years now and the first slip happened in 2021,
01:44
went again in 2022 and the community has been
01:48
really disadvantaged not having this road opened going to Lismore.
01:52
It's our second main route to that town
01:55
and we appreciate the money from the government
01:58
and wish CMC all the best preparing the job.
02:02
The most important thing is to get this road back in action for our community.
02:06
We know it's been frustrating, it's been three years
02:09
and we are really looking forward to having this road back open by Christmas.
