00:02 Now this is some artificial intelligence
00:06 we can all get behind.
00:07 This is the Autonomous Road Repair System,
00:10 or ARIS for short.
00:11 And it's the revolutionary new way
00:13 to keep roads pothole free.
00:14 But how?
00:15 Here's the company's co-founder
00:16 and technical director to explain.
00:19 - And it does this through scanning the road,
00:21 detecting the cracks,
00:22 and through a bit of artificial intelligence,
00:25 identifying which one needs to be filled.
00:27 And by filling autonomously the cracks,
00:29 it prevents water ingress,
00:31 and this prevents in turn the pothole from here.
00:33 - Cracks in roads allow water to get down inside them.
00:36 This can erode motorways over time.
00:38 But in the winter, when the water is prone to freezing,
00:40 it can damage roads much quicker.
00:42 So this robot nips that in the bud,
00:44 autonomously traveling around on roads
00:46 and identifying those pothole-producing cracks,
00:48 filling them in wherever it deems necessary.
00:51 In England, where it's currently being tested,
00:53 authorities say it has already passed with flying colors.
00:56 This is a massive boon for road maintenance.
00:58 As the current process for monitoring and fixing potholes
01:01 is antiquated at best,
01:02 with the UK's technology and decarbonization minister
01:05 saying about the AI pothole preventer, quote,
01:08 "It is said a stitch in time saves nine,
01:10 and that prevention is better than cure.
01:12 And likewise, stopping cracks from growing into potholes
01:15 could save a lot of future maintenance work."
