#Vocational #education in China is an area where teachers are calling for an improved system to cultivate #skills more wisely.

00:00 China's vocational education sector is one topic being talked about at the
00:04 country's annual political sessions. Our correspondent Sao Choo Fung has been
00:08 talking to one deputy in the National People's Congress who's a teacher in the
00:12 vocational education sector. He said he plans to submit suggestions on how to
00:17 develop talent. Born in 1997, Yang Donghui is one of the youngest deputies in the
00:23 National People's Congress or NPC from Guangdong province. After winning a
00:29 gold medal at the world skills competition, he became a teacher at
00:33 Guangdong Machinery Technician College. He says he can feel China's paying much
00:38 attention to cultivating skilled talents.
00:44 In recent years, the state has closely monitored the development of highly
00:49 skilled talent. There's a desire for outstanding talents to become members of
00:54 the CPPCC or NPC deputies advocating more effectively for skilled talents. NPC
01:02 deputies serve in part-time roles and come from diverse backgrounds. Part of
01:07 their responsibility involves hearing the voices of people from all walks of
01:12 life, submitting recommendations based on the concerns they hear.
01:19 My profession involves cultivating highly skilled talents. I naturally get
01:24 to know the different challenges present in the sector. Other teachers also
01:29 provide me with diverse opinions and suggestions. My role is to listen to the
01:33 suggestions, compile them into recommendations and ultimately submit
01:38 them to the NPC. China's vocational education law says that vocational
01:43 education is as important as general education and the country will drive
01:48 the development of both in a unified manner. But Yang Dehui's experience tells
01:53 him there's still room for improvement in the vocational education sector and
01:58 he plans to write down his suggestions on this subject for this year's two
02:02 sessions. General education and vocational education are two
02:08 tracks in China and these two tracks do not often merge. Those who understand
02:12 technical areas may not necessarily have hands-on practical skills while those
02:17 who excel in practical skills may not necessarily process theoretical
02:22 knowledge. I hope we can develop a national level platform that integrates
02:26 these two tracks to cultivate individuals who are knowledgeable, skilled
02:30 and innovative. China believes cultivating technical talents is
02:36 important to helping the country achieve its high quality development goals.
02:42 Official statistics in 2023 states that medium to higher level vocational
02:47 schools annually produce around 10 million highly skilled talents.
02:53 See you tomorrow, Guangzhi.
