00:00 I am beyond obsessed with the Gilded Age.
00:03 Came a little late to the party, Audra,
00:06 but I'm here and I'm not going anywhere.
00:08 You guys have been renewed for season three.
00:10 So excited.
00:11 There's so much story to be told,
00:12 especially with your family in this.
00:15 Where do you see this going?
00:16 Where would you like for this to go for your family?
00:19 Well, I'm hoping, you know, right now,
00:21 our family seems to be sort of like the sole representation
00:25 for what's happening with Black Elite.
00:27 So I'm hoping we delve into more of what happens
00:31 with the Black community in New York City
00:34 and beyond during that time.
00:36 So I would love to see some more historical characters,
00:39 Black historical characters from that time.
00:41 I mean, I know that Peggy is sort of modeled off of Ida B. Wells,
00:45 but wouldn't it be cool if Peggy actually met Ida B. Wells?
00:48 Yes! Yes!
00:50 But regardless, I'm just so glad that Julian Fellows
00:53 really took the time to make sure
00:56 that we're getting to see a bit of history
00:58 that has absolutely been sort of like, you know,
01:01 just sort of buried and not talked about.
01:02 The fact--you know, a lot of people are like,
01:03 "What? What do you mean Black people?"
01:04 And I'm like, "Yeah, yeah, we existed.
01:06 We've always been here."
01:07 Absolutely.
01:08 There was a very much a Black bourgeoisie, like, community
01:12 that thr--
01:13 Thriving. Thank you.
01:14 Thriving community. Thriving community.
01:16 So it's wonderful that we're getting a chance to see it.
01:18 I just think the material is so great,
01:20 and I love seeing you.
01:21 I can only imagine how fun it is.
01:23 Like I said, I came to the party late, but I'm never--
01:25 When do you guys start shooting season 3?
01:27 Yeah, in a couple months.
01:28 Yeah, so we're gearing up.
01:29 Have you seen scripts?
01:31 No.
01:33 No.
01:35 I'm wondering, 'cause you are so multifaceted and multitalented,
01:38 you're about to go back to Broadway in "Gypsy."
01:40 Oh, no, that was a rumor.
01:42 It's not happening.
01:43 That's a rumor.
01:44 I read about that in the New York Post, too.
01:47 Now, how does that happen?
01:48 How do you just make up that you're gonna be starring
01:50 in the revival of "Gypsy"?
01:51 People talk. People talk.
01:53 Well, we would like to see you back on Broadway at some point.
01:56 Six Tonys later, we would like for that to happen.
01:59 It seems like every time you touch the stage, there's magic.
02:02 I've been very, very lucky.
02:03 But I've been really lucky to be in some great projects this season.
02:06 I was in "Rustin," I was in "Origin,"
02:08 and then so happy to be a part of what's going on with the Gilded Age.
02:11 Yeah, life is good.
02:12 Talk about storytelling and storytelling and representation.
02:15 I mean, both of those projects were two of my favorites this season,
02:20 and I love that it seems to be for you
02:22 that you are always very intentional about representation
02:26 and how you show up on screen.
02:28 Absolutely. That's important. That's everything.
02:30 I mean, when Ava DuVernay called and said,
02:32 "Look, I want you to be a part of 'Origin.'"
02:34 It's based on Isabel Wilkerson's incredible book.
02:37 And when she told me, "Look, it's just one scene,
02:41 "but it's with Ingenue Ellis."
02:43 And you were representing black love in the highest form.
02:46 I was like, "Absolutely."
02:48 And also, I'm always thinking about my children.
02:50 And, you know, when I'm gone,
02:53 what will they see of what I did while I was here?
02:56 And so I want to make sure that they're always proud of what I'm doing
02:59 and so to be a part of that.
03:00 And then Rustin, too.
03:01 And my fingers are crossed and my toes are crossed for Coleman.
03:04 He's having more than a moment.
03:06 I mean, he's deserving of all of it.
03:09 But isn't that man having a time?
03:12 Oh, it's wonderful. So well-deserved.
03:14 And there couldn't be a nicer, more loving person
03:17 who deserves it so much.
03:19 So it's wonderful to see when your friends just soar.
03:22 You've had a storied career.
03:23 Is there a project that still to this day
03:26 you are kicking yourself that you passed on?
03:29 [laughs]
03:31 Um, no.
03:33 I have to say, I am so grateful for everything that has come into my life.
03:36 I trust the universe.
03:38 You know, and everything that's come into my life,
03:39 it's come into it for a reason.
03:41 It's taught me something.
03:42 And things that have been scooted out of my life
03:44 have been scooted out of my life for a reason.
03:45 And I'm grateful for that, too.
03:47 Thank you for setting the record straight about Gypsy.
03:49 We like when stuff is-- myths are busted around here.
03:52 Right now, that is, you know, a rumor.
03:54 Okay, now we do have to talk a little fashion
03:56 because we like to do that around here.
03:57 And I can't help but see these rings on your fingers.
03:59 What is going on?
04:00 Oh, gosh. I'm feeling horrible
04:02 because I can't remember the name of the designer of the rings,
04:04 but they are incredible.
04:06 Because I'm doing a little bit of Morticia Addams
04:08 with Christian Siriano, which I love.
04:11 So we got a snake, and then this is what I love about this,
04:14 like brass knuckles.
04:15 Ridiculous.
04:17 I love that the theme is Morticia.
04:20 Morticia glam.
04:21 Morticia glam.
04:23 No, no, no.
04:24 What Christian Siriano has you snatched to the tee.
04:27 Like, I love how he fits for a woman's form so well.
04:30 Oh, my gosh, yes.
04:31 And he's not snobby about, you know, women's bodies.
04:35 He appreciates all types and sizes of women's bodies.
04:39 And so for that, we are very, very grateful.
04:42 Thank you so much.
04:43 Have a great time, guys.
