Chris Steel call in powers

Planning Minister Chris Steel has approved a 1000-home estate in Denman Prospect.

00:00 I'm announcing that I have used my call-in powers as the Minister for Planning to call

00:07 in Devon Prospect Stage 2, which is known as Strong Low Ridge.

00:13 I've made the decision to approve this estate with conditions.

00:19 The reason that I've made this decision to approve this development application is because

00:25 it will deliver around 1,000 new homes, including 20% affordable housing, which will provide

00:32 a significant benefit to the community at a time when we desperately need more housing

00:38 delivered in the community to meet the needs of our growing population.

00:42 As part of the approval, there are some significant conditions that are attached to it.

00:48 They relate to some of the environmental issues in the area and they relate to issues like

00:55 creek connectivity, tree replacement, consideration of burrowing animals, including wombats and

01:02 the pigtailed worm lizard, and there are also conditions around fire management as well.

01:08 This decision strikes the right balance between providing new housing to the community and

01:14 providing more affordable housing to the community, whilst also considering the environmental values of the area.
