00:13 Plataforma is a project that will be inaugurated on February 4th in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
00:21 Nidia Elorriaga, a friend of mine and a collector of Guadalajara art,
00:24 was worried about working on a contemporary art project.
00:27 And after a few months of doing a scouting around the city, we found this space,
00:31 which was originally a funeral home from the 70s,
00:34 and the space was perfect for the project we were looking for.
00:38 And in April of last year, in April of 2023, we started remodeling the space.
00:43 This culminates with this inauguration, in which we present the platform project to the city of Guadalajara.
00:57 Architecturally, we chose to work with an architect from Guadalajara, named Sergio Ortiz.
01:02 And there was a steel roof that covered the building from the outside,
01:07 and Sergio's gesture was to change it to vitroblock.
01:10 And I think that's the most successful gesture possible, because it floods the space with light.
01:15 What Sergio did was to completely clean the space,
01:22 remove the roofs that were made of rock,
01:25 and expose the vault that we see now in the space,
01:29 the clean steel structure as it is.
01:32 I think that more than putting it on, what Sergio did was to remove it,
01:35 lighten the project, lighten the space, and make it more interesting and more livable.
01:41 The first floor is a space where an international curator
01:48 will work for a year doing four exhibitions with artists from this region of the country.
01:53 So we're going to do four exhibitions a year with this curator.
01:56 Once this series of four exhibitions is over, we'll choose another curator, one after the other.
02:00 On the second floor is the studio where two artists will work for six months,
02:06 doing projects and working on their day-to-day,
02:11 and we'll help them bring curators, have conversations,
02:14 have small exhibitions, and show a little bit of their process.
02:21 The three things to highlight would be that we're going to try to generate a first-level cultural program
02:26 with important and significant exhibitions for the city.
02:32 Number two is Sergio Ortiz's architectural gesture.
02:36 I think it's a space that's very tacky in the sense that it's austere,
02:43 it shows very clearly the vocation of space.
02:47 It's a project that's been thought out to work well with sobriety,
02:52 and that art projects can be seen in a fortunate and very good way.
02:57 And the third thing that interests me is the artists' studios,
03:03 and it's going to have gastronomic content that we'll announce at the time.
03:08 There's going to be a restaurant and a terrace with a one-bar.
03:11 I think that helps to close the space as a destination for the city.

03:19 You're going to find here at the Cerámica Suro collection
03:22 a mix between what we produce in the workshop, our ceramic collection,
03:26 and also what we've collected over the last 30 years of contemporary art.
03:31 The idea is that we always think that the vocation of our collection
03:34 should be to open up to the public and share it with the city
03:38 and with people interested in contemporary art.
03:40 That's what we're going to focus on, sharing, showing projects,
03:46 and trying to make artists who have never exhibited in Guadalajara or Mexico
03:50 be able to do exhibitions here.

03:55 Plataforma is another participant in Art Weekend.
03:58 I think that there's never enough of them,
04:00 and there's always a lack of art spaces everywhere.
04:02 They're never enough.
04:03 One of the objectives of this space is to create a hub
04:06 for more young artists to come to the residences,
04:09 to decide to come to Guadalajara to live,
04:11 and it has very good production conditions.
04:14 So I think that's another of the objectives of this space.
