00:00 Congratulations on your nomination tonight.
00:02 Thank you.
00:02 How does it feel being nominated for Killers of the Flower Moon?
00:05 It's kind of fun.
00:06 You've worked in this industry for a long time.
00:11 Some of the biggest films, Dance of the Wolves.
00:14 What was it like working with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio on this film?
00:17 It was great.
00:18 And then working with the pro, you've got a good eye and a way of communicating.
00:25 That's quite to the point.
00:28 And we had a conversation before we started shooting.
00:31 So it was kind of pretty clear.
00:35 You know, and it was busy.
00:40 There's a lot going on, right?
00:42 And so it was kind of limited, but really interesting milieu to be in.
00:56 You know, where there's so much wealth among our people, you know,
01:01 because in all the 50 years of work that I've been doing mostly,
01:05 wealth is not one of the issues that we're dealing with, you know?
01:11 Did you imagine when you took on this role that it would be
01:14 the huge success that it has been and that people would flock to this movie like they have?
01:18 Yeah.
01:20 Yeah, yeah.
01:22 I mean, Scorsese and big budget and yeah, well, I've been through dances with wolves, right?
01:31 So it was kind of a memory of that and almost an expectation, but it doesn't surprise me.
01:41 And I also think that there's something about our world that needs to be known.
01:50 And there's a lot of that kind of surfacing things that we should be knowing.
01:58 And so my indigenous world is a part of that.
02:02 So it's just kind of I've been watching our world kind of come to the surface.
02:08 This is a part of it.
02:09 And after starring in dances with wolves, you know, so many years ago,
02:14 how did this feel participating in this film after coming off that many years ago?
02:20 Did it feel like it was a full circle moment for you?
02:22 Not full circle, no.
02:25 But, you know, it's kind of like in the same river, the same river of things.
02:34 Because I've done a lot of things since then, you know, and there's been a progression.
02:43 I think dances allowed for an experience to hit mainstream in that people started to see us as
02:51 human beings because we were shot as human beings in that movie.
02:54 And so it kind of brought another layer, another plateau.
03:00 And so it allowed our stories to have another light, another angle.
03:09 And we move forward with that.
03:12 And so what I'm thinking about this is there's always a purpose.
03:16 There's always a reason.
03:18 This doesn't happen just because some guy in his office decided.
03:22 You know, it comes from a place that's beyond us, really.
03:27 And so I look for what's its purpose.
03:31 And I'm hoping what its purpose is, is something to do with politics,
03:37 something to do with the way we see our nations.
03:40 I don't know what it will be, but I think dances was helpful in terms of culture
03:48 and that society aspect.
03:51 So I don't know.
03:51 You know, I don't know what people are getting from this one.
