Transcript
00:00 Senior citizens 80 years and over but not a hundred yet, rejoice!
00:05 The Centenarian Act of 2016 has just been amended to guarantee you a cash gift of P10,000
00:12 for those aged 80 to 84 and P10,000 more every five years upon hitting 85, 90 and 95.
00:20 Likewise, homemade products manufacturers can look to more incentives with Republic
00:25 Act 11982 or the Tatak Pinoy Law, also inked today, that helps improve product quality
00:32 which our Alan Francisco hashes over in this report.
00:39 Good news for elderly Filipinos as President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has signed Republic
00:44 Act No. 11982, which amends the Centenarian Act of 2016.
00:50 It means that beginning today, once fully implemented, senior citizens can avail of
00:55 the cash gift starting from the age of 80 instead of 100.
00:59 Upon reaching 80 years old, a Filipino will receive P10,000 and every five years thereafter,
01:06 including ages 85, 90 and 95.
01:10 Under the new law, Filipinos upon reaching the age of 80 shall receive a cash gift of
01:15 P10,000 and every five years thereafter, and upon reaching the age of 85, 90 and until
01:23 95.
01:25 Marcos stated that the expansion of the Centenarian Act is the government's recognition of the
01:30 elderly Filipinos' contribution to nation building.
01:33 What they should get is the support infrastructure that every society owes to its graying population.
01:39 There were already close to 10 million seniors two years ago.
01:45 And there are some of the many of us here who have already crossed that Rubicon line.
01:53 Others we might be suspected of having passed this bill for ourselves in preparation for
01:59 our votage.
02:01 But as this demographic enlarges, the societal facilities that attend to them should be expanded
02:10 as well.
02:11 82-year-old Lola Corazon is happy with this law.
02:14 "Nakong, napakaswerte ko naman.
02:24 Ano ko.
02:25 Dahil mabibigay ako ng pampamili ng mga pagkain."
02:26 "So ano ko naramdaman niyo ngayon?"
02:27 "Masayang-masayang."
02:28 Senators applaud President Marcos for signing this law.
02:50 anak.
02:51 So napakalaking bagay."
02:54 Senator Sherwin Gatchalian emphasizes this law recognizes a valuable contribution of
02:59 the elderly to society.
03:01 House Speaker Martin Romualdez stresses that this law honors a contribution of the elderly
03:07 to the nation.
03:08 In addition, President Marcos also signed Republic Act No. 11981, known as the Tatak
03:15 Pinoy Act.
03:17 This law aims to strengthen government and private sector collaboration in promoting
03:21 Filipino products and services globally.
03:25 President Marcos emphasizes that Tatak Pinoy goes beyond branding.
03:29 It provides incentives to purchase local products.
03:32 "It is about creating products and services of the highest quality because Tatak Pinoy
03:38 is also about excellence.
03:40 And as a seal of great workmanship, it must only be applied to those that meet this high
03:47 standard.
03:48 And as such, we shall give preference and priority to our products."
03:53 Senator Usande Angara, the principal author of the bill, commends the Tatak Pinoy Act
03:58 for strengthening the economy through enhanced coordination between the government and the
04:03 private sector.
04:04 President Secretary Mina Pangandaman expressed gratitude to the President for signing the
04:09 Tatak Pinoy Act, considering it's a promise fulfilled and evidence of Bagong Pilipinas'
04:14 transformative power.
04:16 Secretary Mina Pangandaman considers the Tatak Pinoy Act as a significant milestone in strengthening
04:22 Filipino enterprises.
