00:34 Five people are known to have died and as many as 15 people are missing at the high-rise
00:38 apartment complex in Valencia.
00:41 Of those five who perished, four were from just one family - the parents, their three-year-old
00:46 and their baby.
00:48 Five people also remain in hospital, four of them firefighters.
00:52 Their condition is described as stable.
00:55 Police have now begun to examine the interior of the complex as the obvious question remains
00:59 unanswered.
01:00 How did the blaze spread so quickly?
01:03 Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez toured the complex on Friday morning and said those who lived
01:07 there would be helped.
01:09 It's not immediately known how many people were in the two buildings when the fire broke
01:13 out but dozens are believed to have lost their homes and their belongings.
01:16 "The priority now, as has been transferred by the rest of the authorities, is to find
01:24 victims and, without a doubt, to try to safeguard the safety of public servants."
01:34 Valencia's Mayor Maria Jose Catala said that the danger of the building collapsing and
01:38 the intense heat from the fire initially prevented emergency workers from entering.
01:43 It started quickly on Thursday evening and experts say polyurethane cladding on the buildings
01:48 may have fuelled it.
01:54 Displaced Palestinian children in the southern Gaza city of Rafa protested in support of
01:59 other children suffering from hunger and Israeli attacks in the northern part of the strip,
02:05 local media said on Wednesday.
02:07 The young demonstrators chanted and held signs reading "Our children are dying of hunger"
02:12 and calling for the end of the war.
02:14 While in Israel, the Association of Rape Crisis Centers says evidence shows systematic and
02:20 intentional sexual violence during the Hamas attacks on October 7.
02:24 "It's not a quantitative research.
02:26 It's actually understanding the practices of the Hamas.
02:29 And when you look at it and when you understand it, you can't believe it.
02:33 I don't think in the recent history and even in past history, things happened in a few
02:41 hours in such a sadistic, brutal way.
02:44 The findings are that the Hamas terrorists did systematic work.
02:50 The horrific atrocities did not happen in one place.
02:53 It happened all over."
02:54 Blooms of smoke were seen rising over the northern part of the Gaza Strip on Thursday
03:00 as Israel continues its military offensive in the besieged territory.
03:04 New attempts are underway to reach a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas that could cause
03:10 the war in Gaza, a member of Israel's war cabinet said late Wednesday.
03:21 On Friday, the Polish Prime Minister welcomed the President of the European Commission with
03:25 a smile.
03:27 Ursula von der Leyen traveled to Poland to announce her intention to release 137 billion
03:33 euros for Warsaw in the next few days.
03:40 For Polish leader Donald Tusk, in office since December, this is the first political victory
03:45 marking his country's return to the European stage.
03:48 "It's a very important day.
03:51 We have worked together a lot, especially Poles.
03:56 On October 15, we are electing democracy and the rule of law.
04:04 These are the true heroes of this history."
04:10 These funds, which come from the Union's Cohesion Policy and Recovery Plan, had until now been
04:15 frozen because of the previous ultra-conservative government's attack on the independence of
04:19 the judiciary and the rule of law.
04:21 Donald Tusk did not waste any time and presented a number of reforms that convinced the Commission.
04:29 "I strongly welcome the action plan that your government presented to the member states
04:37 this week.
04:40 It is a powerful statement.
04:43 It is a clear road map for Poland and your efforts are decisive."
04:51 The decision will be formally presented next week by the College of Commissioners to validate
04:55 the release of the funds.
05:00 Despite his elation over the fact that 137 billion euros could potentially soon be unblocked
05:08 for his country, the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk also used that press conference
05:13 today to express concern for Polish farmers.
05:16 He had a clear message for Brussels when he said that when supporting Ukraine, the fate
05:21 of the people of Europe should not be put at stake.
05:25 Referring to the Polish farmers who have been protesting on the Ukrainian border, concerned
05:30 that cheap Ukrainian food products are flooding the market.

05:37 At least three people died in an attack by a Russian drone which caused a fire in a shopping
05:44 area in Odessa.
05:46 The regional governor Ole Kiefer said that Ukrainian air defense forces had destroyed
05:50 nine of the ten drones launched during the night in southern Ukraine.
05:55 Ukrainian military sources said Russia launched 31 drones against Ukraine overnight, with
06:00 the air defenses destroying 23 of them.
06:05 Among the drones that escaped Ukrainian defense were those that crashed in the city of Dnipro
06:10 injuring eight people.
06:11 According to local authorities, they hit a nine-story building, destroying several flats.
06:17 Search operations are still underway.
06:20 In Kiev on Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with foreign representatives and
06:25 international organizations and stressed that all possible efforts must be made to end the
06:30 war by 2024.
06:32 For Zelensky, the implementation of the peace formula could bring home Ukrainian children
06:36 and adults held captive or imprisoned in Russia, a key humanitarian task.
06:42 According to Ukrainian NGO Humanitarian Platform, since the beginning of the war, more than
06:47 10,500 civilians have been killed, 500 of which were children, with a further 20,000
06:54 injured.
06:55 U.S. officials have announced a new raft of sanctions against Russia.
07:09 Meeting with the widow of Alexei Navalny, the prominent Russian opposition leader who
07:13 was announced dead last week, President Joe Biden said the sanctions would target President
07:18 Putin personally.
07:21 "Some of them will be targeted at folks directly involved in Navalny's death.
07:32 The vast majority of them, though, are designed to further attrit Putin's war machine, to
07:39 close gaps in the sanctions regime that he has been able to evade."
07:45 Despite facing his own criticism, Putin has publicly supported President Biden in the
07:52 upcoming U.S. election.
07:58 Meanwhile the war in Ukraine rages on, with shelling last night hitting Dobro Pilya, a
08:03 town in the Donetsk region, injuring two.
08:16 Farmers clashed with police in Zaragoza, northeastern Spain on Thursday, setting fires and blocking
08:21 streets.
08:25 Talks between the government and farmers failed earlier this week, and a major protest was
08:29 held in Madrid on Wednesday, with another protest planned for Sunday.
08:38 "We want a law that will balance the food chain.
08:42 It can't be that those who start generating value, the producers, are the ones we perceive
08:48 least."
08:50 Farmers in France have also taken their tractors to the streets, with some saying they would
08:54 be prepared to block the opening of a major agricultural trade fair in Paris.
09:01 "We feel like we're being taken by boat, in the sense that the state has promised us a
09:05 lot of things that we still don't have.
09:07 So it's about showing that we're still present and that we're still waiting for answers."
09:15 Throughout the EU, farmers have been protesting over policies such as the European Union's
09:20 Green Deal, which calls for limits on chemicals and greenhouse gas emissions.
09:31 The European Commission has recently launched an infringement procedure against Italy for
09:35 failing to comply with hunting rules.
09:38 The Commission has found that several pieces of legislation introduced by Giorgio Meloni's
09:43 government breach EU laws.
09:45 "It looks like the government has granted regions the power to authorise the killing
09:50 and the capture of wildlife species, even in areas where hunting is not permitted.
09:56 And according to the Commission, Italy doesn't respect rules on the use of lead in ammunition.
10:02 And Rome has been accused of failing to protect several sea species during fishing activities.
10:07 Now the Italian government has two months to respond and to change the law.
10:12 Italy's main national hunting association says that the government will clarify its
10:18 stance as they say that there's no intention on their behalf to breach the law.
10:24 But according to Italy's Organisation for Animal Rights, Protection and Welfare, the
10:29 breach is politically motivated and that the government doesn't do much to protect the
10:35 environment.
10:36 Take a listen."
10:37 "If hunters organise themselves and find references in the political world and in the
10:43 majority in the parliament, their interests are taken into account.
10:47 And so, since what interests a certain political class, but I would say in general the political
10:51 class, are the votes, we take into account the lobbies.
10:54 This is true for the environment, for the animals, but it's true in all sectors of politics
10:58 where the collective interest, I have to say, at this moment, doesn't enjoy a great
11:03 prospect."
11:04 A private lander on Thursday made the first US touchdown on the moon in more than 50 years.
11:15 The company Intuitive Machines claimed several records at once when it landed its uncrewed
11:21 Odysseus spacecraft just one week after leaving Earth.

11:38 size the probe landing.
