The video shows how the upgraded intersection of Jervis Bay Road and the Princes Highway will operate. Video by Transport For NSW
Transcript
00:00 The NSW and Australian Governments are delivering a safer and more reliable Jervis Bay Road
00:07 and Princes Highway intersection.
00:11 The intersection connects NARA, the largest regional centre on the NSW South Coast, and
00:17 the growing residential and tourism townships of the Jervis Bay and Basin region.
00:22 It hosts one of the highest volumes of traffic between NARA and the Victorian border and
00:27 has ongoing safety and congestion issues.
00:31 The new intersection will be a flyover or grade separated interchange, with a bridge
00:37 that would travel over Jervis Bay Road, connecting to roundabouts on either side of the highway.
00:45 For those travelling through the intersection via the highway, it will be upgraded to two
00:50 lanes in each direction.
00:52 This would provide uninterrupted flow through the intersection and remove potential traffic
00:57 congestion.
00:59 Those travelling from Jervis Bay Road North onto the Princes Highway and from the Princes
01:04 Highway East onto Jervis Bay Road would have more reliable and congestion free journeys
01:10 due to the low volumes of traffic sharing the roundabouts from other directions.
01:15 There will also be longer entry and exit lanes on and off the highway.
01:20 Changes to nearby local roads will maintain access for homes and businesses.
01:26 Pedestrian and cycle paths, bus stops and drop off facilities are proposed to cater
01:31 to all transport users and better connect to the wider transport network.
01:37 The design provides the safest option for all transport customers.
01:41 Keeping traffic moving and addressing congestion will reduce the likelihood of serious accidents.
01:49 It will also create more reliable access to towns, businesses and services, leading to
01:55 a more resilient transport network.
01:58 The intersection serves as the gateway to other important projects further south as
02:03 part of the Princes Highway Upgrade Program, delivering a safe, reliable, efficient and
02:08 connected network for everyone.
02:12 Early work on the Jervis Bay Road and Princes Highway intersection will start in late 2022.
02:18 Have your say on the concept design and environmental assessment.
