Labour considers backing SNP ceasefire vote

Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting said his party is “considering” its options on whether to back an SNP-led vote this week on an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East. Labour has so far not ruled out backing the Commons vote, with fears it could create a further divide among MPs on the Israel-Hamas war. "We'll wait and see the final wording of the motion and we will make Labour's position clear, not just in terms of votes on Wednesday but where we are on the ceasefire," Mr Streeting said. 00:00 We'll wait and see the final wording of the SNP motion and we will make Labour's position
00:05 clear, not just in terms of votes on Wednesday but where we are on the ceasefire. Keir Starmer
00:12 did a speech to the Scottish Labour Conference this weekend. Once again, this has been a
00:17 position now for Labour for months, not just weeks, that we want to see a ceasefire, we
00:22 want to see this conflict brought to an end, recognising the challenges we have, both in
00:29 terms of the way that Israel is conducting the war and the disproportionate loss of innocent
00:33 life that we've seen, also the challenge of Hamas still holding hostages, the risk of
00:41 further attacks on Israel which Hamas still have a commitment to undertake, and also in
00:46 relation to Rafah, the real danger now of this becoming an irreversible tipping point
00:52 and the totally intolerable spectacle of Palestinians being pushed out of Rafah into the desert
00:59 we cannot allow that to happen.
