Yoko Ono's politically-charged protest art takes over London's Tate Modern

Featuring over 200 works, a new exhibition at London's Tate Modern showcases Yoko Ono's politically charged artwork, including her iconic 'War is Over' piece created with John Lennon.

00:17 So we're really thrilled to be presenting 70 years of Yoko Ono's practice at Tate Modern.

00:24 It's really the largest survey exhibition of her work and it spans 1955 to the present day.

00:30 And we really wanted to give texture and background to the way that she established her scores,

00:38 her participatory work and the invitation to explore humorous but also very serious content.

00:45 And she's a long-term campaigner for peace and that's something that we really wanted to highlight throughout the exhibition.

01:17 So this exhibition is really relevant to today's times as well.

01:21 We're looking at the war in Ukraine and in Gaza and trying to find a solution to peace so that we can all live together.

01:30 And it's really interesting because political art does tend to create forums where exhibitions are cancelled,

01:40 for example like with Ai Weiwei, but political art is a way forward as well because before we can read and write, we're seduced by imagery.
