00:22 So the piece is called 'Never Change' and it was inspired by the pin oak leaf,
00:27 which obviously changes colour through the seasons.
00:30 And it was the idea of using that mottled surface pattern as the basis of a sculpture,
00:35 so it changes all the time.

00:48 So there are actually 10,000 separate discs and they're all grouped together
00:53 to form 2,500 spinners.
00:56 So it was quite a process putting them all together in order in the right colour combinations.
01:01 But they all spin and then you get these mottled reds and greens and yellows and oranges,
01:04 different patterns that occur.

01:14 I was actually on a walk with my wife around our suburb and it was autumn,
01:19 and I saw all the leaves and the trees and all the colour changes and I was like,
01:22 'That is really interesting', just as a pattern because you see all the...
01:26 It looks so beautiful when you see all the different colours.
01:28 I thought that would be amazing as a sculpture.
01:31 But this was back in 2014, so the idea has been sitting in my file for a long time
01:37 and I finally got the opportunity to do it, which was really amazing.

01:46 My background was... it started in product design, so I was actually inventing
01:51 and I was an inventor/designer.
01:54 One of the things I invented was a method of making artworks with tulle,
01:58 and that produced a whole career that's been about 10 or 15 years now as an artist.
02:05 But I still, over those years, have continued to make other things in different materials,
02:10 this being one of them.
02:12 I think the thing I like the most about being a creative is you're producing things
02:18 and hopefully providing people with enjoyment, and that's the basis behind this piece.
02:23 It's something interesting and fun to watch.
02:26 I'm excited to see, after two years of development, it's finally in situ, spinning away.
