00:00 [door opens]
00:01 Bienvenidos a mi casa, Edie.
00:03 Good to see you.
00:04 [upbeat music]
00:06 This is my dining room, my formal dining room.
00:18 It's one of my favorite rooms in the house,
00:21 definitely because of the detail.
00:23 It is amazing ceiling.
00:25 It's all hand painted.
00:28 And it brought this room to life.
00:31 I think another one of the special details of the room
00:34 is that tapestry is 18th century French.
00:37 And I think all the colors bring together
00:40 the whole mood of the room.
00:43 I love to collect china.
00:45 One of the most important things in entertaining
00:47 is putting a lot of effort in the details,
00:50 making people feel like they're eating something special,
00:53 looking at something beautiful.
00:55 And I think that china is what helps me.
00:58 Achieve that.
00:59 And these cabinets are perfect for that.
01:02 Take a look.
01:03 - Wow.
01:06 - And this is only the beginning.
01:08 I have more.
01:09 [upbeat music]
01:11 And of course, another super important room is the kitchen.
01:22 I'm Latin, so we love entertaining with a lot of food,
01:26 a lot of friends.
01:27 And we're always here.
01:28 It's hard to take the people out of the kitchen,
01:30 even though I made most of the room very comfortable.
01:33 That was the idea when O'Hara and I decided
01:36 to create all the little different rooms.
01:40 But unfortunately, people still don't wanna leave
01:44 the kitchen.
01:45 I love the counter, the white awnings.
01:48 This magnificent stove is La Cornue.
01:52 I don't know anything at all about it
01:55 because I do not cook.
01:57 I don't want to learn to cook,
01:58 but my son Manolo is great at cooking,
02:01 and he said that this was what I needed in the house.
02:04 So here it is.
02:06 I only care that it looks amazing.
02:08 [upbeat music]
02:11 Here we are at the family room,
02:21 and way in the back is the formal living room.
02:24 I love it because they all open to the backyard,
02:27 which is my favorite thing about the house.
02:30 Every room opens to the pool and the backyard,
02:32 even when you're upstairs in the guest rooms.
02:35 And it's also perfect that this room opens
02:38 to the second floor where all the guest rooms are.
02:41 So every time something is happening,
02:44 everybody can check out that they're not missing on stuff,
02:47 and they just take a peek,
02:49 and they decide if they wanna come downstairs
02:51 to join or not.
02:52 And here is where we have parties
02:56 and where we sit to watch TV
02:58 and where all the drama happens.
03:00 I kind of like started collecting crystal birds
03:05 because I love birds and I love crystals.
03:09 And then when I learned that they existed together,
03:12 I was like, oh my God, that's like my favorite thing now.
03:15 So if you guys wanna send me something,
03:17 send me a bird made out of crystals.
03:20 My whole life, one of my, how Americans say,
03:24 bucket list, list,
03:26 it was to own anything that I could afford
03:29 from Fernando Botero,
03:31 one of the most amazing, prolific artists in Colombia
03:36 and in Latin America.
03:38 And I always dreamed of having one.
03:40 In 1983, he started painting the Matadores,
03:44 which is the bullfighters.
03:46 I was still living there in 1983.
03:48 I was still very young.
03:50 And when I saw it, I'm like,
03:52 one day maybe I'll get that one
03:54 because he's known for creating
03:57 these very big, voluptuous figures,
04:00 but there was something about the Matadores
04:02 that I was very attracted to.
04:04 And I still have that picture
04:06 when he came out in a newspaper
04:09 in my hometown in Barranquilla.
04:10 And then last year I got the real one.
04:14 Here it is.
04:14 [upbeat music]
04:17 And this one is one of the most important corners
04:24 of the house.
04:26 Where are you?
04:27 Here.
04:27 Is where happiness leaves the bar.
04:33 What do you want?
04:38 [upbeat music]
04:42 So when I found this house, it was horrific.
04:45 It was like a castle in Transylvania.
04:48 But when I walked outside and I saw this garden,
04:52 I knew this is where I wanted to live.
04:54 This outdoor area is an extension of the house,
04:57 which is to me the most special place in the house
05:01 because of the energy, the colors.
05:04 I drink coffee here.
05:05 I bring my kids here.
05:07 I bring my kids to the park.
05:09 I drink coffee here.
05:10 I bring my lunch in here.
05:12 I bring my friends, meetings, everything.
05:14 There's something about this garden
05:16 that is really inviting
05:17 and people come and they don't wanna leave.
05:19 So when that started happening,
05:22 that I realized it's so difficult
05:24 to get the people out of the freaking house,
05:26 I realized that we had done a great job.
05:29 All I wanna do when I am at home
05:32 is relax back here outside.
05:35 And I usually sit in that corner and drink coffee
05:40 and I play with my son's dog.
05:43 And I mean, I'm like Don Corleone.
05:46 I sit there and everybody comes and talks to me
05:49 and I receive all my guests,
05:51 everyone from that corner, from that couch.
05:54 And the pool area is super important
05:56 because from every bedroom,
05:58 you see the pool, you see the pool house.
06:02 I wanted it to give you a feeling
06:04 like you're out in the Mediterranean,
06:06 like in Italy, like you're in a villa, in a hotel.
06:10 And it was very carefully how we decided to pick the plants,
06:15 whatever was gonna be created in the hill.
06:18 There was nothing in the hill when I got the house.
06:21 So I had to start from scratch.
06:23 And I created this a little bit of a tropical,
06:28 I wanna say like environment
06:30 because most of these plants
06:31 are very beautiful tropical plants
06:34 that are not exactly supposed to be in the Mediterranean,
06:38 but it made me feel a little bit like I was in Colombia.
06:42 Well, and this is, you know what this is,
06:56 where the good times happen.
06:59 All the sleeping, eight hours.
07:02 I love this bedroom.
07:03 It's super cozy.
07:05 It's a lot of light that comes in in the morning.
07:08 It's perfect.
07:10 I feel comfortable.
07:11 I feel sexy.
07:13 I feel everything in this bedroom.
07:16 I've always had a thing for four pool beds.
07:20 And I think this one is very special.
07:22 I love the color.
07:23 I love the textures.
07:24 I thought that it was gonna be perfect for the room.
07:28 I think it looks great with the house and it's sexy.
07:33 I love fireplaces.
07:34 Even though I live in California, I hate heaters.
07:36 I can't have heaters on.
07:38 So when it gets a little bit chilly in the winter,
07:41 I prefer to put the fireplace.
07:43 Not only because the heat is better,
07:45 but it's also, it makes the rooms very beautiful.
07:48 The lighting is beautiful when the fire is on.
07:50 Well, and that's not any fireplace.
07:52 It's from the Waldorf Astoria in New York.
07:55 And it was something special.
07:57 The designer, O'Hara and me wanted to bring into the room
08:02 and she found that.
08:03 And we thought that was it.
08:05 We don't need anything else.
08:06 I loved working with O'Hara.
08:08 She kind of saved my life
08:09 because I was like in a little of a crossroads.
08:14 I was, it's either I'm gonna hate this house
08:17 or I'm gonna love this house.
08:19 What am I gonna do?
08:20 I don't wanna move in here
08:21 because I don't think things are coming out the way I wanted.
08:25 So finally I found her and she helped me unravel
08:30 everything that was wrong with the house.
08:32 And this is a little sitting area in the bedroom
08:42 that is super practical
08:43 because sometimes the bed is all perfect
08:46 and I don't wanna ruin it during the day.
08:48 So what I do is that I ruin all this
08:51 and I lay down here.
08:59 This arch is amazing.
09:01 This is definitely the most beautiful bathroom
09:04 I have in the house.
09:07 I think the combination of colors,
09:08 the beige and the gray is like really unexpected.
09:12 It's perfect.
09:13 I mean, look at the view.
09:15 Look at the bathtub, the view from the bathtub.
09:18 It's perfection.
09:20 [upbeat music]
09:23 And this is where I actually really live, in my closet.
09:34 This is where I spend most of my time.
09:36 This is like a girl's girl's dream.
09:39 I was thinking about this closet for a long time
09:42 because I love everything that is, you know,
09:45 organized by color.
09:46 And Linda Cooper Smith designed
09:49 this amazing, amazing closet for me.
09:52 And I try to keep it as organized as you see it,
09:57 but sometimes it's hard.
09:59 You know how girls are.
10:00 I never knew that I needed to see my bags
10:04 so organized like that.
10:06 I used to have them all like stocked together.
10:09 So now it's very easy to know exactly what I need,
10:14 but I'm still late.
10:15 All this stuff in the counter is very special for me.
10:18 This is something that I bought at an antique shop in Paris.
10:23 And this is a picture of my brother who passed away
10:28 and my favorite cousin who passed away.
10:34 So this is an important picture for me.
10:36 And then this picture,
10:40 it was when I was young and fresh.
10:43 (upbeat music)
10:46 Bye, AD, thank you for coming.
10:56 (gunshot)
10:59 (upbeat music)
