00:00 I'd never worn a tux and I've been to like three weddings and I always borrow my friend's dad's suit
00:04 and it's like never really fits and so it was nice to like feel like I fit and everything
00:07 and like looked like it's like it was tailored, right?
00:09 Hey Vanity Fair. Come on in. I'm Noah Kahn.
00:20 Gonna get ready for the Grammys together. Come on.
00:23 Yesterday I had the most like champagne problem of all time.
00:26 I was at the Beverly Hills Hilton for the Clive Davis thing and
00:29 I really needed to sleep but the people kept bringing in like chocolate-covered strawberries
00:34 and so I was like can you guys stop bringing in like chocolate-covered stuff?
00:37 I'm like trying to sleep and I felt like I just lost myself completely in all this.
00:41 We did the Spotify Best New Artist Party. I opened up for Ice Spice, which was really fun.
00:46 And then we did Clive Davis yesterday and Ice Spice opened up for me.
00:50 So we were just trading, returning each other the favors.
00:52 But it was awesome and so cool and there's all these sorts of famous people running around.
00:56 Like everywhere you looked it was a famous person. It was so cool.
00:59 If there was any night for me to join the Illuminati it would have been last night. I fucked up.
01:02 And today obviously we got the Grammys and no expectations.
01:04 Just gonna have some fun and hang out with my mom for the day and just you know enjoy it.
01:09 Because who knows when I'll be back.
01:10 All right. Let's get ready.
01:12 All right, this is Amanda and Elliot.
01:14 Glam Squad. They've been putting pins in my hair and dressing me up and making me look attractive all week.
01:21 I'm just a vessel for their creativity.
01:23 You could either do like a clean one, which could be nice because your suit's very clean.
01:27 And it's gonna rain so I need to like waterproof you so your hair doesn't explode.
01:31 Okay.
01:31 We could do a clean bun or we could do a double messy bun or just a messy bun.
01:36 I feel like I can't be the one that decides.
01:39 I need to learn how to do my own bun.
01:41 Because I don't know how.
01:42 I can teach you.
01:42 I was always the kid in school with a backpack that like had like papers like exploding out of it.
01:47 Every year like every teacher like thought they could fix that and they couldn't so.
01:51 I could teach you to do it your way.
01:52 I also couldn't tie my shoes until I was like too old.
01:55 On stage when I can't tie my shoes, when my shoes come untied I have to turn around and I can't let the crowd see.
02:01 And I have my band play really loud so that they can't focus on looking at me.
02:05 I got up at 6, 6.30.
02:07 I had a dream I died in a plane crash.
02:09 What?
02:10 And then I got up and couldn't go back to sleep.
02:12 And then I watched Chelsea.
02:14 They lost.
02:14 And so I woke up at 6.30 and then went to get a massage.
02:18 And they had like this red light sauna blanket thing.
02:22 And it was like so hot and so heavy and like but I'm like so afraid of like saying anything to the masseuse.
02:26 And like him thinking that I don't like what he's doing.
02:28 So I like didn't tell him that I really, really didn't like it.
02:31 And it was like I literally thought I was like being buried alive.
02:34 It was awful.
02:34 He had like my head in his hands.
02:35 I'm like if I say he doesn't like it then he's just like fucking snap my neck or something.
02:39 But yeah it was a good morning and now I'm here.
02:42 I'm a little hungover because I had a couple drinks at Clive Davis last night.
02:45 And nowadays I can drink like two glasses of wine and be like violently hungover.
02:51 Obviously I didn't just drink two glasses of wine but that could have happened.
02:54 Probably red carpet stuff.
02:55 I feel very uncomfortable in those situations.
02:56 So that's usually like the part that I'm like least comfortable in.
03:00 I don't particularly like I don't mind it.
03:02 Like it's definitely not like something that I'm like just afraid of.
03:04 But I just feel like everything besides playing music and making music does not come naturally to me at all.
03:10 This is our robot friend that talks to us in the morning.
03:14 Yeah.
03:15 Sometimes it says intrusive thoughts.
03:16 It looks like.
03:17 Yeah.
03:18 When I found out I got the nomination I was in Leeds, England before a show and it was like our smallest show.
03:24 And then they said my name and I like lost my mind and like jumped around.
03:28 I went through every human emotion.
03:30 I called my mom first and we just like screamed into the phone.
03:32 And then I saw that Gracie got nominated so I called her and we screamed into the phone.
03:35 I was calling everybody I knew really.
03:38 I called the person I made my first song ever with, my first like produced song ever with.
03:42 And you want to tell them because you're so excited that they played a part in this cool moment.
03:46 My date's my mom.
03:47 I promised her.
03:47 Well, she made me promise when I was like 13 that if I ever went to the Grammys, I had to bring her.
03:51 I'm going to let Elliot tell you what I'm wearing because I have no, I don't really know what it's all called, but she did a great job.
03:56 I'm going to tell them.
03:56 Tonight we went with just this classic Tom Sweeney tuxedo, dark midnight blue shirt and bow tie.
04:05 Allen Edmonds black patent leather loafers, Panera watch.
04:09 I've never worn a tux and I've been to like three weddings and I always borrow my friend's dad's suit and it's like never really fits.
04:15 And so I've never like had a fitting outfit really in my life.
04:18 So it was nice to like feel like I fit and everything.
04:19 It like looked like it's like it was tailored, right?
04:22 Yep.
04:22 We had it tailored.
04:23 Ready?
04:24 Yes.
04:24 Mommy!
04:25 I'm so excited.
04:28 You look so good.
04:29 I look like a mermaid don't I?
04:30 You look beautiful.
04:31 Oh my God.
04:32 You look so pretty.
04:33 This is my mom, Lori Birkenkamp.
04:36 Hi.
04:36 And she is looking stunning and we're going to hit the red carpet tonight.
04:40 She's my Grammy date.
04:41 I booked my date with him 15 years ago so I feel like I got right in under the wire.
04:46 She RSVP'd very early.
04:48 Yeah.
04:48 A little too early for my taste.
04:50 I'm from Vermont.
04:50 We do everything early.
04:51 We're on time and we leave early.
04:53 That's right.
04:54 Oh my God.
04:54 Joni Mitchell's going to be there.
04:55 Oh my God.
04:56 That for me is like I can't wait.
04:58 I'm going to fangirl.
04:59 Oh Brandi Carlile also.
05:00 She's...
05:01 Well my mom loves Brandi Carlile.
05:02 Oh my God.
05:03 And I talked to Brandi Carlile.
05:04 I was like my mom loves you.
05:05 She's like I want to come to Vermont and come fishing with your mom.
05:07 Oh we could.
05:08 I stocked my pond.
05:09 You're supposed to be my friend Brandi.
05:11 Oh.
05:13 Oh dad's calling me.
05:15 I'm going to take it real quick.
05:17 You need to get home?
05:18 No, no.
05:18 Hey daddy.
05:19 Yeah I'm pumped.
05:20 I'm with mom now.
05:21 She just got her makeup done.
05:22 She looks beautiful.
05:22 Hi Joshy.
05:23 Mom says hi.
05:24 Are you going to stay up and watch it?
05:26 I'll watch it until tomorrow.
05:31 Well at least watch it until my award.
05:34 I love you dad.
05:35 I'll see you.
05:36 We'll talk tomorrow.
05:37 I'm so excited my kids are here.
05:39 Oh.
05:40 Yay.
05:41 Woo.
05:42 Oh my gosh.
05:43 Oh my gosh.
05:44 I know.
05:44 I'm so-- ew.
05:45 I love you.
05:46 Oh.
05:46 Hey Noah.
05:47 My loving brother.
05:48 It's our big day.
05:49 It's our big day.
05:50 It's our big day.
05:50 We're nominated.
05:51 You look great.
05:51 Thank you.
05:52 Very nice.
05:52 Joshy, how are you?
05:53 Oh my God.
05:54 Give me a hug.
05:55 Hello Josh.
05:56 Oh.
05:57 Oh you look great.
05:58 Thank you.
05:59 You look-- no you look great.
06:00 They know who I'm voting for.
06:01 Yeah.
06:02 That's biased.
06:03 We're in this cool tux situation.
06:05 This looks sweet.
06:07 I'm jealous.
06:07 Dude, I heard Green Day last night.
06:10 Oh.
06:10 I met Green Day.
06:11 So sick.
06:12 I met Flava Flav.
06:14 Oh, word.
06:14 Did you see the big clock around him?
06:16 He had a big clock on him.
06:16 Did he really?
06:17 He really did.
06:18 I'm going to go get into my Grammy's outfit.
06:20 But I'll see you guys in a few.
06:21 I'll be back.
06:22 [CHEERING]
06:30 There's the love.
06:33 Noah.
06:34 Noah.
06:34 Noah.
06:35 Noah.
06:35 Noah.
06:36 Oh no.
06:37 [LAUGHTER]
06:40 So handsome.
06:41 Handsome.
06:42 This is the second take.
06:44 Feeling good.
06:44 I feel like I look very cool, like a young Keanu.
06:49 That's what we were going for.
06:51 My siblings have gotten me watches,
06:53 but they always give them to me without them
06:55 being fit for my wrists.
06:56 I've never had my own watch.
06:57 It is glam o'clock, glam hour.
07:00 It is 2.03.
07:01 Is this set right?
07:03 Probably not.
07:05 You got to get your cufflinks.
07:06 Yeah, there's a little diamond where
07:08 Stratford is to remind him of all his friends back home.
07:10 Yeah.
07:11 I've never had cufflinks before, or never worn cufflinks before.
07:14 The final touch, the movie star moment.
07:17 I'll do a little reveal for you guys.
07:19 [MUSIC PLAYING]
07:22 Do you feel comfortable?
07:25 I feel very comfortable.
07:26 It's really cozy.
07:27 It's like warm.
07:28 Good.
07:28 Oh, it's good.
07:29 Thank you, mommy.
07:31 Thank you.
07:32 Oh, thank you guys.
07:33 Love you guys.
07:34 You look awesome.
07:35 Oh, wait.
07:36 I can't cry because I'm not in the--
07:37 You look really famous.
07:37 Mom, don't cry.
07:38 Your makeup's just finished.
07:39 I know.

07:40 Love you.
07:41 I love you so much.
07:42 Oh my god.

07:46 I just love this boy.
07:47 You look really, really, really, really cool.
07:49 Thanks, Vanity Fair, for getting ready with me today.
07:52 But we got to go to the Grammys.
07:53 Oh.
07:54 Let's go.
08:02 Catch the game last night?
08:04 Oh, yeah.
08:05 That guy?
08:06 Hit that-- can you-- that score?
08:08 Uh-huh.

08:09 I love you.
