QLD Police arrest teenager as a part of investigations over stabbing

Queensland police have arrested a teenager, as part of investigations into a fatal stabbing at a shopping centre at Ipswich, west of Brisbane.

00:00 This 15 year old boy, he's from Ripley, he handed himself in at the Ipswich Police Station

00:08 last night and he'll appear here at the Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning.

00:12 So this 15 year old boy has been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

00:19 That's in relation to an alleged stolen car.

00:23 But this is all related to what happened at the Redbank Plains Shopping Village on the

00:29 Saturday night.

00:30 It was early on Saturday night, it still would have been daylight Gemma, and it was a 70

00:35 year old grandmother, Violene White, she was at the shops with her 6 year old granddaughter.

00:41 They were just there doing some shopping.

00:43 And as she's gone to leave the shopping centre, she's got down to the car park area that's

00:47 underground under the shopping centre and that's where she has been attacked and she

00:52 has been stabbed in the chest and from the injuries she's sustained, she died from those

00:59 injuries.

01:00 Earlier on we did hear from the Ipswich Mayor, Theresa Harding, she says the community of

01:05 Redbank Plains is calling for more police.

01:09 We've been told by the police there will be a much more visible police presence, not just

01:12 here but in other shopping centres and other public areas in Redbank Plains.

01:16 So Gemma, police are still searching for three other people that were in the vehicle, they

01:23 were spotted on CCTV vision getting out of the 2009 Hyundai Getz, that was in the suburb

01:30 of Springfield Lakes that that vision was captured.
