On January 30, a Houthi anti-ship cruise missile approached within a mile of a US destroyer before being successfully intercepted. CNN reports that this incident marks the closest a Houthi attack has come to a US warship. Typically, these missiles are intercepted by US destroyers at a distance of around eight miles or more from the ship. However, in this case, the USS Gravely had to deploy its Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) for the first time since the US started intercepting Houthi missiles late last year, according to officials.
