00:00 "India will implement CAA. We have given this guarantee to the President."
00:08 UNION MINISTER SHANTANU THAKUR has declared that the Citizenship Amendment Act will be
00:12 implemented across India within the next seven days.
00:18 Speaking in Bengali during a public gathering in Kakdip, South 24 Pagana in Bengal, Thakur
00:23 expressed confidence in the nationwide implementation of the CAA and so he made this big statement.
00:29 Now, this assertion echoes Union Home Minister Amit Shah's assertion last year that the
00:34 BJP-led central government will be enforcing CAA as soon as possible, a statement directed
00:39 particularly at the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a vocal critic of the act.
00:44 In December previous year, Amit Shah had emphatically declared that the government's determination
00:49 to implement the CAA, targeting Mamata Banerjee, who staunchly opposed the act.
00:54 During a rally in Kolkata's iconic Maidan, Shah criticised Banerjee on issues like infiltration,
00:59 corruption, political violence and the appeasement, urging the people to vote for BJP in the 2026
01:04 assembly elections.
01:07 For the unaware, the CAA was passed in 2019, but it was met with widespread protest and
01:12 opposition across the country.
01:14 Despite the controversy, the government is reportedly preparing to implement the CAA
01:18 rules as soon as possible, with an online portal in place for a streamlined and digital
01:22 application process.
01:25 According to official sources, the CAA rules are already ready and their notification will
01:28 precede the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.
01:32 The official also highlighted the digital nature of the entire process, with applications
01:36 required to declare the year of entry into India without travel documents, and no additional
01:41 document will be sought.
01:43 Shantanu Thakur's recent statement retaliates the government's commitment to push forward
01:48 the CAA, brushing aside the objection and criticism.
01:51 The act, which aims to provide citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from the neighbouring
01:55 countries, has been a contentious issue, sparking debate, inclusivity and religious discrimination.
02:02 As the government gears up for implementation, it remains to be seen how the move will be
02:05 received by the public and political stakeholders, especially given the history of protest and
02:11 opposition surrounding the CAA.
