00:00 It's very encouraging to see both young and old stand together to show the nation that peaceful communities are those where the wisdom of years gives vision to those who are following us.
00:15 Let our example today encourage our young people that peace throughout the world is a vision worth having.
00:25 Let us give thanks that there are still those who bring such encouragement and indeed hope to our community on this day of remembrance.
00:36 And this is perhaps today more important than ever.
00:41 We are all gathered this morning together and I'm going to say three little things about our gathering.
00:53 Number one, it is real.
00:58 Number two, our gathering has an intrinsic value.
01:04 And number three, we can use our gathering in the future when we need strength and when we need hope.
01:12 We meet at a very difficult time. Throughout the world we see examples reminding us that the human race has not learned and has not made cruelty, injustice, unkindness, violence, things of the past.
01:28 These things are real and they are present on our screens, radios and newspapers every minute of every day.
01:37 You may ask if what we are doing here today, remembering the millions who have died because of genocide and Holocaust, is a futile act.
01:45 Let us remember from that most seed that plants grow.
01:49 Small as our act may seem, let us commit to peace in our homes, schools, offices, between our fellow citizens of this town and country.
02:00 From this tiny seed may peace grow stronger.
02:03 It is good that we are here today.
02:05 Lady Emma Barnard, Mayor of Hayward Heath, fellow residents of Hayward Heath, I would like to welcome you on behalf of the Sussex District Council to this celebration.
02:20 Our district is very diverse and we are enriched by sisters and brothers from a wide variety of cultures, countries, faiths and traditions.
02:33 We live amongst those who are of different colour, gender, sexuality, those who hold different political views and hold different likes and dislikes.
02:45 Let us today remember when the folk with the same differences were slaughtered because of them and commit ourselves to celebrate our diversity.
02:58 Let us grow in peace.
