Microsoft is laying off approximately 1,900 employees in its Gaming unit, representing around 9% of the division's headcount. The cuts come three months after Microsoft closed its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said the layoffs are part of aligning strategy and costs following the megadeal. Areas of overlap between Microsoft, Activision, and King teams will be reduced. Microsoft shares were largely unchanged by the news.
