In the mountainous terrain of southwestern China's Yunnan province, rescue operations are in progress following a devastating landslide that buried at least 47 people. The tragic incident occurred shortly before 6 am (22:00 GMT on Sunday) in the village of Liangshui, beneath the town of Tangfang in Zhenxiong County, as reported by the state news agency Xinhua. Yunnan, characterised by its remote location and steep mountain ranges against the Himalayan plateau, frequently witnesses landslides. This recent disaster unfolded in a rural area surrounded by towering snow-dusted peaks, emphasising the challenging conditions of the rescue efforts. Weather data revealed temperatures hovering around -4°C in Zhenxiong on Monday morning.
