00:00 Jodie Foster caused some controversy earlier this month with her comments about Gen Z.
00:04 In an interview with The Guardian, Foster made some light criticisms, including saying,
00:08 "In emails, I'll tell them this is all grammatically incorrect, did you not check your spelling?"
00:13 And they're like, "Why would I do that? Isn't that kind of limiting?"
00:16 But Foster's comments don't just stir up generational resentment.
00:19 They also reflect the seemingly declining role email plays in the workplace.
00:23 This is reflected in many studies.
00:25 For example, in 2020, the consulting group Creative Strategies found that workers under 30
00:30 ranked Google Docs, Zoom, and iMessage above email as collaboration tools.
00:35 Last year, the foreign language learning platform Preply reported that 80% of their
00:40 survey respondents say email has led to workplace miscommunications,
00:43 the highest rate of any communication method studied.
00:46 And another study from OnePoll and Slack, admittedly not an unbiased observer,
00:51 claimed that 46% of respondents believe that using email means their company is lagging behind
00:56 with technology. So if these trends continue, proper grammar in emails may become a moot point.
