00:00 Good morning, my name is Ben, I'm the Sport Engagement Coordinator at Be Well Wigan.
00:04 This is the North West Walking Netball League, the first of its kind in the country.
00:09 And this morning we're here at Robin Park Leisure Centre. The North West Walking Netball League is a
00:15 joint partnership with our friends at England Netball. And this morning we've got six teams
00:20 from around the North West that have come here this morning to play walking netball.
00:25 Walking netball forms part of our highly successful and long-standing back to sport program.
00:30 Our Wigan Wigglers team play here every Tuesday morning and for them walking netball is more than
00:37 just about the netball itself, it's about coming together, making new friendships, socialising,
00:44 but on the same on that same point having those physical mental health benefits that
00:50 comes through sport and physical activity. Wigan Wigglers!
00:56 Hi I'm Abi, the Netball Development Officer for Greater Manchester. We've come down to the Wigan
01:09 Walking Netball League today which is the first walking netball league nationally for England
01:14 Netball. Walking netball essentially is a slower paced version of the game that we all love. So
01:20 walking as it pretty much says on the tin, no jumping, you get an extra second on the ball,
01:26 so four seconds and you get to take an extra step as well. So we're just here, I think we've got six
01:31 teams here today that have sort of come across, Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester as
01:39 well that have all come together and Wigan just play the game.
