00:05 Welcome to my mind massage.

00:06 I'm gonna take you through a sound journey

00:09 using some of my favorite things.

00:18 When I was about like 13, 12,

00:37 I started off as a producer.

00:40 And then from producing, I started engineering.

00:43 And then from engineering, I started songwriting.

00:47 And then from songwriting,

00:50 I fell into music kind of being in the front line.

00:54 I never really wanted to be in the front line.

00:56 I always wanted to be in the background, making money.

01:00 But then I just ended up trying it

01:03 and it became really successful.

01:06 And then I couldn't stop.

01:08 If you listen to my music, it's predominantly African.

01:11 I do listen to hip hop.

01:14 I do listen to other kinds of music,

01:15 but my personal music that I produce and make

01:19 is 90% influenced by the African music and African sounds.

01:24 Artists that influenced me, yes, of course.

01:28 In the African side, Fela Kuti, Da Banch,

01:32 B-Squared, 2Face.

01:34 In the Western side, Usher, 50 Cent,

01:39 Ja Rule, Nelly.

01:42 At first, I wanted to do music out here in America,

01:44 but that wasn't where my heart was.

01:47 So I always go home on holiday, back to Nigeria.

01:52 And then one day, I just went

01:54 and the music scene was amazing.

01:57 It was big.

01:59 And I fell in love with Afro music.

02:03 And I was a producer at the time.

02:04 So by the time I got back to America,

02:07 I wasn't feeling the type of music I was making

02:11 before I left.

02:12 Then I started making Afro type music

02:15 and then I just stuck with it.

02:17 I actually went back to school and finished,

02:18 but at the time I had to leave

02:20 because the music was just getting too big and too big.

02:24 And I was becoming a distraction to the school.

02:28 So I already had tours booked overseas.

02:33 My music was just getting bigger and bigger.

02:35 So it was kind of hard juggling the two,

02:38 being a superstar and then also having to go to school.

02:41 It was kind of hard, but after a couple of years,

02:44 we kind of figured it out and then I eventually finished.

02:47 And when I was living in the South,

02:50 back then there was no African restaurants.

02:52 So I had a hard time finding African food.

02:55 We had internet, so I could always still watch

02:58 Nigerian movies or tap in with the culture

03:01 through Facebook, Instagram, and still know what's going on.

03:05 But one thing I did miss was the food

03:08 'cause I can't really cook myself.

03:11 Hello, today I'm gonna be making one of my favorite drinks,

03:14 the Martel Sidecar.

03:17 I like this drink, why?

03:20 I had it for the first time two years ago in Paris.

03:25 And normally when I have a lot to drink, I feel tired.

03:30 But when I have this one, I don't feel tired.

03:32 Gives me up, gives me energy.

03:35 So yeah, we're gonna be making a Martel Sidecar, enjoy.

03:56 I recorded most of this album at home.

04:02 Normally I'd be in the studio with the guys,

04:05 but you know what I'm saying, with this album,

04:07 I kinda took my time.

04:09 It was more like personal experiences

04:12 with the producers, with the engineers.

04:16 It was really a focused album.

04:19 There was really no distractions apart from this.

04:33 Pretty much, my top three favorite albums,

04:49 Usher, Confessions, Get Rich or Die, 250 Cent,

04:53 Timeless by Me.

04:54 Definitely wanna tour the world, everywhere.

04:58 I wanna go to Asia, I wanna make movies.

05:01 I wanna invest in film, do everything possible.

05:05 Everything that God has destined for me,

05:07 I'm ready to go all the way.

05:09 I wish I could play like the saxophone or like the guitar.

05:12 Those are my two favorite instruments.

05:15 When I was younger, I was like eight, nine.

05:18 I was learning the saxophone, but then I just dropped it.

05:21 But then I wish I could play the guitar, I love the guitar.

05:40 The video for Feel was inspired by,

05:44 just like looking at the world right now,

05:46 where we're just living in crazy times.

05:48 If you listen to the song, it's just about the energy.

05:53 Feeling it like citizens of a certain kingdom.

05:56 It could be a community, it could be a country.

06:01 And just being tired of the situation,

06:04 going around in the world, wanting a change.

06:08 If I could give advice to aspiring musicians,

06:10 just be original, you know what I'm saying?

06:12 I could've, I used to live in America, I could've stayed

06:15 and just done what everybody else was doing.

06:18 But inside me, I felt like my calling was to go back home

06:23 and represent that culture and then eventually,

06:27 it's still brought me back out here,

06:28 but everybody has their own path.

06:30 Most important thing is just be original.

06:32 For self-care, I love massages.

06:35 I'm addicted to massages.

06:36 I be on the road a lot, from the jet to the stage,

06:40 from the stage to the jet, to the party.

06:43 So sometimes I like to wind down and, you know,

06:45 get relaxed a little bit.

06:47 I love massages, especially like tempo massage.

06:51 I like vacations, I like to travel.

06:54 I like to party.

06:55 I like to eat, I love food.
