00:00 Amal Abu al-Sabah is 26 years old. She paints on ruins left behind from Israel's military
00:08 assault on Rafa in southern Gaza. The rubble of buildings that Palestinians once called
00:14 home have become her canvas.
00:20 I didn't search for areas that remained intact. On the contrary, I searched for houses that
00:25 were destroyed with innocent civilians inside them, such as this house where more than 10
00:30 bodies were pulled from under the rubble.
00:34 Amal was forcibly displaced from central Gaza. She escaped to survive another day but refused
00:42 to leave her brushes behind. Determined to continue showing the resistance of Palestinians
00:49 through her work and turning their dark reality into a coloured memory of resilience.
00:56 I decided to paint this mural using all available colours in order to send a strong message
01:02 through the drawings you see here to tell all Arab nations that we will remain in our
01:07 land and we will never leave it.
01:11 As Amal completes her mural titled Gaza 2024, she is hopeful that once the war ends, the
01:19 people of Palestine can wipe their canvas clean and start over once again.
