00:23 The group gathered at the embassy around 10.45pm amid a heavy police presence.
00:29 The road leading to the embassy entrance was blocked off by a police truck.
00:35 Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Commissioner Dato' Alauddin Abdul Majid, emphasised that public
00:40 safety is their utmost responsibility.
00:43 "The police say they sympathise and support the struggle of the Palestinian people,
00:50 especially the Gaza Strip, which has been attacked by the Israeli forces.
00:55 We are firm in our support for the people of the Gaza Strip.
01:00 However, the police have a responsibility to ensure the safety of the people and the
01:08 safety of the foreign representatives in Malaysia.
01:11 We will not allow any incidents to harm the people, especially the safety of the
01:19 Prime Ministers of the United Arab Emirates and the United Arab Emirates."
01:23 Meanwhile, former PKR Vice President, Tian Chua, representing the crowd, said that they
01:28 were picketing outside the embassy, rather than protesting.
01:32 "Starting tonight, activists will be protesting in front of the US Embassy.
01:45 We want to remind them that Gaza is now under the control of the Israeli army."
01:54 On protesters planning to set up camps near the embassy compound, Commissioner Alauddin
01:59 urged the crowd to cooperate with the police.
02:02 Various NGOs and political parties were present, including members of MCAU.
02:07 "The MCAU has invited us to be here to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
02:17 This shows that we care.
02:20 We care.
02:21 We care.
02:22 Maybe they think that Malaysia is small, but if all Malaysians can stand up and protest,
02:29 we can show the world that we can do it.
02:35 In Gaza, we can restore peace.
02:39 Cease fire in Gaza."
02:42 The peaceful gathering, dubbed "Kepung Demi Palestine", organised by Secretariat Solidarity
02:47 Palestine, started on Tuesday evening and is scheduled to end on December 31.
