00:00 Oh, I know, I haven't read anything about it. What are the theories?
00:02 Well, they're saying like, you know, the Negabands were, you know, they switch guys and places.
00:06 Some people think you transform from Kamala.
00:09 It's interesting, interesting theories.
00:11 Interesting things.
00:13 I'm excited. Well, how do I say things without saying things?
00:28 I'm excited about people seeing the relationship between these women because they are all incredibly
00:33 different, different skill sets, different ways of communicating.
00:38 And I like watching people learn how to work together as a team.
00:41 I mean, that's what I do when I make movies.
00:42 It's like, it's a group of people working together as a team.
00:44 And so it feels like in this film, you get to have this opportunity to see a group of
00:49 women come together, work together.
00:50 And it's also going to be really fun.
00:53 For me, was that I was like, what's it look like?
00:58 How is, Nia, what is happening?
01:00 It was just, I had to completely surrender to the process of not knowing.
01:07 And actually, you know, sometimes they would have, what's those visuals?
01:10 A previs and stuff.
01:10 A previs for me to see, which would be helpful.
01:14 But for the most part, really imagining, going off what Nia said, and then trying to imagine
01:20 and make it real for myself.
01:22 That was the most fun and also challenging part of it.
01:26 Well, I tried as much as possible to have concept art or previs to show that's like,
01:30 this is what we're thinking of.
01:30 It might change.
01:31 The thing I love about Marvel is that it just, they keep ideating and it's blessing and
01:37 blessing, making things better and better and better.
01:38 So things might be one thing one year and the next year, still working on the movie,
01:41 and it's completely different.
01:42 So I just try my best to be open.
01:43 Like, listen, I'm going to give you everything I know, and that's the best I can do because
01:47 this is bigger than all of us.
01:48 But it's so fun to come up with that stuff.
01:50 I love that stuff.
01:51 I'm a really big nerd for that power set shit.
01:53 So it was so cool, especially with Monica's powers, because it was like, Kamala's is established
01:57 in Ms. Marvel.
01:58 Carol Brees has been established since time immemorial.
02:04 And then with Monica, we really got to talk about, OK, which of her thousands of powers
02:08 in the comics do we want to make canon and then see it?
02:11 Well, you know there's a part in the comics where she realizes she's immortal, she freaks
02:14 out, and then she goes intangible in water and her atoms scatter across the ocean.
02:19 And it takes her forever to put herself back together.
02:22 She's insane.
02:24 So it's like you have so much to choose from.
02:25 Anyway, we didn't do that.
02:27 Nia DaCosta is a powerhouse of a woman.
02:31 I think she's literally the only person who could have directed a movie like this.
02:34 She really tries to find those nuances and action scenes even, and really fleshing out
02:39 the characters and allowing women to feel things.
02:42 They have emotions, and they have feelings, and they need to overcome it in order to overcome
02:46 everything in the plot.
02:47 So yeah, we really worked together in bringing all those really deep emotions out of all
02:52 of our characters.
02:53 And Nia is the person for the job.
02:55 This character really was something that I thought I just found and no one else knew
02:59 about.
02:59 And now the entire world knows about it.
03:01 And she's getting a movie with Brie Larson and Tiana Paris.
03:05 And yeah, all of Kamala's dreams are coming true.
03:08 And I'm so happy.
03:10 But the pressure is just to do your best.
03:12 Do it the best way possible.
03:16 And all the team, all the production, they were really careful with creating this world.
03:23 They made the research.
03:25 They have a lot of people giving all the information.
03:30 They create not just the costume, the makeup, everything.
03:36 Everything is so accurate and beautiful.
03:38 And for me, it was easier.
03:40 You know?
03:41 It's like everybody, everybody do their job.
03:45 So you just have to arrive and do your best because everybody is playing in the same team.
03:52 Yeah.
03:52 Do you know what I mean?
03:53 You just went through an incredible transformation for Stranger Things 4.
03:56 And I'm wondering, are they making you transform again for Red Garden?
03:59 Oh, I'm happy to get there as we can pan down to my waistline.
04:03 I'm kidding.
04:04 Don't.
04:04 I'm happy to eat the cheeseburgers and the chocolate cake.
04:07 Be back on that diet.
04:08 I mean, we'll see where Alexei ends up kind of as he begins this Thunderbolts movie.
04:14 You know, he's, I think he's out of, yeah, right.
04:18 He's out of prison.
04:19 And I think a lot of his stress eating came from the depression of being in a Russian gulag.
04:24 So he's out.
04:28 He's, you know, probably working out again.
04:30 No, we'll see.
04:31 I mean, it'll be a, it's always a fun thing to physically carve out a character as you
04:36 begin to work on them.
04:37 And so the, the, Alexei has a lot of room to grow and we'll have to see where he, where
04:43 he starts out with this movie.
04:44 But I don't want to ruin anything, but it's, it's, it'll be fun.
04:46 What's the likelihood of you getting to don the suit again?
04:49 Was it completely?
04:50 It's been years.
04:51 Yeah.
04:51 It'd been years.
04:52 Like, so I put the suit on in, for the last time in 2000, I didn't know it at the time,
04:57 but it was in 2017.
04:58 And I, and Kevin called me in 2020, you know, like, and I was joking earlier on, like all
05:04 that time, Vincent and I would chat and he, and he was convinced they were going to call
05:08 us.
05:08 And I was like, buddy, he's like, you're delusional.
05:11 It's over.
05:12 It's been over for a long time.
05:14 We are not like, we're not playing as characters anymore.
05:17 It's like, they're going to call us.
05:19 I'm always surprised to learn things that come up in the Marvel world that we don't
05:23 know until we get the script.
05:24 And I think that's part of the fun that, you know, they really keep mixing it up.
05:30 They keep challenging themselves to push and go further.
05:34 And I think Secret Invasion is a great example of that.
05:37 And also what it's going to, you know, launch into Armored Wars.
05:39 I think it's the same kind of thing, a lot of surprises, a lot of new characters mixed
05:44 with older characters that are going to come back and keep moving this thing forward.
05:48 So I just think Marvel has done a great job, you know, under the sort of guidance of Kevin
05:53 Feige to keep everything fresh and exciting.
05:55 I wonder, do you have any words to the naysayers who still don't accept it?
06:00 You know, any message to those kind of detractors in the world?
06:03 First of all, wait till you watch this movie.
06:05 But secondly, you know, I think for anybody who questions why somebody like Anthony Mackie
06:12 or Sam Wilson should be at the center of this, it's going back to actually what Captain
06:18 America stands for.
06:19 It's so beautiful to have a character who stands for what is right and to think of a
06:24 world in which everybody gets to be a part of it.
06:26 It's unquestionable that that is right.
06:29 That's exactly what Captain America is about.
06:31 So there really isn't anything to detract.
06:33 There's only things to celebrate, and all those people should feel invited to celebrate
06:37 that.
06:38 All right.
06:38 Do you have a shield at home?
06:39 Do you own one?
06:40 Shield's right here in my heart.
06:42 I love kind of how weird we're getting in the MCU these days with the supernatural,
06:47 you know what I mean?
06:48 What do you think is going to surprise fans about the supernatural world that you're
06:52 kind of introducing to audiences maybe in this special project?
06:56 I think what we're doing is saying, guess what?
06:58 Monsters are real and they're among us and they're around and we're going to
07:03 explore what that means.
07:04 They actually live alongside of everything else going on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
07:12 So that's a really fun sort of tease to put out there.
07:16 Where it goes?
07:17 I don't know.
07:17 We'll see.
07:18 But that's what we're saying.
07:20 There is also heart in these stories, and I think that that will surprise people.
07:24 My favorite of all the monster movies and the old horror movies were the ones that had
07:28 heart in them, like Frankenstein.
07:30 The ones that really made you feel something other than just the horror part of it.
07:35 And it should have both and this definitely does.
07:37 Is there any chance we're going to see a beatdown with Moon Knight at any point?
07:40 Man, this Moon Knight.
07:43 We have to ask him.
07:44 He's becoming, yeah, exactly.
07:47 You're starting to actually...
07:48 I had no problems before with Moon Knight, but now it starts to kind of build something.
07:54 Has he been saying things?
07:56 Yeah, he's been saying so many bad things.
07:59 Yeah, he's like, "Oh, werewolf."
08:01 Yeah, it's so crazy.
08:02 But which side of him?
08:03 Weirdly, it was just Oscar Isaac.
08:07 Okay, okay.
08:09 It sounds like Oscar.
08:10 Okay, that makes sense.
