00:00 "I suppose this is the reality.
00:03 And she does seem to make him happy."
00:05 Welcome to Ms. Mojo,
00:07 and today we're counting down our picks for the events,
00:10 moments, and characters that would have made for compelling storylines,
00:13 but alas, didn't make the cut.
00:16 If you're not yet caught up, here's your spoiler warning.
00:19 "Have you learned nothing in the time you've been on the throne?"
00:24 Number 10.
00:25 Prince Edward and Sophie Rees-Jones' wedding.
00:28 The Crown acknowledges the rise and fall of three royal romances
00:31 in the latter half of the series to varying extents.
00:33 "So much could have done differently the second time around."
00:37 "All right.
00:38 Now that we're here, a review of the marriage."
00:48 However, it skips the nuptials between the Queen's youngest son,
00:51 Prince Edward, and Sophie Rees-Jones,
00:53 which as of writing, is still going strong.
00:56 Their paths crossed at a tennis event in 1993.
00:59 Clearly it was a game, set, match.
01:02 In 1999, they tied the knot in a more understated,
01:05 by royal standards, celebration that reportedly still captivated
01:08 200 million spectators.
01:10 "Rumored to be four feet high, have four tears,
01:14 and be decorated with daffodils, reflecting Sophie's Welsh origins,
01:18 and it will also have on it tennis rackets,
01:21 recalling the couple's first meeting as we should."
01:24 The now Duchess would have been considered a commoner
01:26 before marrying into royalty.
01:28 And well, who doesn't love a good old Cinderella story?
01:31 This love story could have offered an intriguing parallel
01:33 to Prince William and Kate Middleton's.
01:35 "I thought you weren't interested.
01:36 I thought I'd blown it that day in the library."
01:37 "And I'd started to worry that we'd drifted into the dreaded friend zone."
01:42 "Oh no, I'd hate that."
01:44 "So would I."
01:46 Number nine.
01:47 Diana Greaves her good friend Gianni Versace.
01:50 In the first four episodes of season six,
01:52 we explore Princess Diana's last summer before her tragic accident.
01:56 While some key events are covered,
01:58 it overlooks Diana's profound sadness at the sudden death
02:01 of her friend Gianni Versace.
02:03 Reports say she heard the news while on a yacht with Dodi Al-Fayed,
02:06 which fits into the season's timeline.
02:08 "A man's hands are so important.
02:09 Like their lips have to be just the right temperature."
02:14 Diana's reported reaction reflected her deep grief and growing anxieties
02:18 about a similar fate at the hands of the royal family.
02:20 "Did Princess Diana ever express any fears to you
02:23 that senior royals and British intelligence services
02:27 were conspiring to plan an accident in her car?"
02:31 "No."
02:33 Al-Fayed's bodyguard Lee Sansom recalled her asking,
02:36 "Do you think they'll do that to me?"
02:39 Her concerns about the royals are briefly mentioned in the penultimate episode,
02:42 but blending this storyline could have added another layer to Diana's story.
02:46 "In which she wrote of her suspicions that you were plotting
02:50 a deliberate brake failure in her vehicle so as to remove
02:54 any obstacles to your remarriage."
02:56 "What?
02:57 No."
02:58 8.
02:59 The Turn of the Millennium
03:02 Many rulers have overseen the turn of a century,
03:05 but far fewer can say they were monarchs at the turn of the millennium.
03:09 The year 2000 brings memories of Y2K buzz.
03:12 Excitement?
03:13 Apprehension?
03:14 The Millennium Bug, anyone?
03:15 "Credit cards and ATMs may cease to function.
03:20 Airplanes and trains may come to a halt."
03:23 Yet the event slides by with very little fanfare on the crown.
03:26 "And finally, ma'am, your visit to Brighton and Hove
03:28 as one of the government's designated Millennium Cities."
03:32 "Yes."
03:33 "I have drafted a program of engagements that I hope preserves the traditional
03:37 but adds a somewhat modern sensibility."
03:40 At the very least, they could have included the opening of the Millennium Dome
03:43 (now the O2) and who wouldn't have wanted to see the Queen
03:46 reluctantly joining hands with the Blairs and others for a round of Auld Lang Syne?
03:51 Sure, the UK welcomed the new millennium with more of a fizz than a bang,
03:54 but there was still plenty of untapped potential for captivating storylines.
03:58 "Cherie Blair in full voice before the Royal Party could even link arms."
04:07 7.
04:08 A packed political landscape
04:10 Season 6 mostly focuses on the peak and decline of King Tony,
04:14 covering significant events like the Iraq invasion.
04:17 However, did you know he also introduced the minimum wage,
04:20 enforced the Civil Partnership Act for same-sex unions,
04:23 and invested heavily in education and healthcare reforms?
04:26 "Since you entered number 10, you've shown an uncanny ability
04:29 to read the mood of the country better than anyone."
04:32 Despite these accomplishments at home, his time as Prime Minister is mostly remembered
04:35 for the controversial decisions in foreign affairs.
04:38 "Do you remember when he first came to power?
04:40 They took to the streets and cheered.
04:43 Now they want to impeach him for high crimes and misdemeanors.
04:46 Tony Blair has become Tony Blyer."
04:50 The series also missed an opportunity to explore the Treaty of Amsterdam,
04:54 which primarily aimed to help the EU grow and introduce changes in justice,
04:58 social policy, environmental conservation, and more.
05:02 Delving into this could have added an interesting perspective,
05:05 especially with the foresight of Brexit to shape the story.
05:08 "The European Parliament and the Member States had almost equal voting power
05:12 in 23 policy areas, including employment, health, transport, and the environment."
05:18 Number 6.
05:19 Diana sets her sights on Hollywood
05:22 After leaving the royal family, Diana contemplated a fresh start across the pond,
05:27 and it seems Hollywood came calling.
05:28 "I'll tell you what, you leave me and my boys alone, please,
05:31 and you're all going to get a big surprise with the next thing I do."
05:35 "Oh, I will, Stas, but you'll need a big surprise."
05:37 "We'll see."
05:39 In fact, discussions about her starring in a sequel to the 1992 box office hit
05:43 The Bodyguard were confirmed by none other than the star himself, Kevin Costner.
05:48 Apparently, her ex-sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson, aka Fergie,
05:52 convinced her to consider the role.
05:54 "Sarah was really instrumental in that.
05:56 She was really...
05:57 And something I always admired about Sarah was how open she was to that idea
06:04 and how supportive she was."
06:05 There was even supposedly a script in the works,
06:08 potentially mirroring Diana's life as a public figure.
06:11 Unfortunately, Diana passed away before the project took off.
06:14 Just imagine the potential this presents for a captivating storyline in The Crown.
06:18 At the very least, it could have offered a glimpse into the movie that never came to be.
06:22 "She knew that I was... we were working on it with her in mind.
06:26 I didn't talk to anybody about it.
06:28 That was just private between her and I."
06:30 "So she was interested?"
06:31 "Yeah, she was interested."
06:34 Number 5.
06:35 The Good Friday Agreement
06:36 The series has previously touched on the troubles in Northern Ireland,
06:40 albeit very loosely and not always entirely accurately.
06:43 "To escalate our efforts, we double our militancy.
06:47 Spill more blood so that The Crown retreats and leaves Ireland forever."
06:55 Season 6 had an opportunity to rectify that by delving into the 1997 Northern Ireland
06:59 riots, a pivotal event marked by longstanding conflicts, mass protests, and clashes between
07:05 Irish nationalists and governmental entities.
07:08 This history could have been explored in an episode highlighting Tony Blair's instrumental
07:12 role in establishing the Good Friday Agreement, which was key in bringing peace to the region.
07:17 "The principle of consent is absolute and is throughout the agreement.
07:22 The breakthrough is that that is now accepted by all, North and South."
07:27 The episode could have ended with the Queen's 2002 visit to Northern Ireland during her
07:30 Golden Jubilee tour.
07:32 "In celebration of the Jubilee, two themes constantly recur.
07:38 First everyone refers to the sheer scope of the change over the 50 years."
07:44 Perhaps we'd see her paying respects to the victims of the IRA's devastating 1998 Alma
07:49 attack.
07:51 4.
07:52 More of Diana's philanthropy
07:54 Revered as the People's Princess, Diana earned admiration for her boundless compassion
07:58 and dedication to positive change.
08:11 While Season 6 spotlights her famous landmine walk, Diana was involved in numerous humanitarian
08:16 causes.
08:17 She actively advocated for better HIV/AIDS understanding, fought against poverty and
08:22 illness, supported vulnerable youth, and challenged mental health stigmas.
08:37 The series missed chances to showcase her significant meeting with Nelson Mandela or
08:41 her visit to the White House with First Lady Hillary Clinton as a Red Cross representative.
08:46 They could have shown her journey to Pakistan, where she raised funds for a new hospital,
08:50 echoing her Harlem hospital visit from Season 4.
08:53 These are just some examples of her global impact.
08:57 3.
08:58 Princes William and Harry meet Camilla for the first time
09:06 Now that we think about it, did Camilla even share any screen time with the princes before
09:10 her wedding to their father?
09:12 Considering they were probably aware of the relationship's history, incorporating their
09:16 first meeting could have added substantial drama.
09:20 Reportedly, Prince Charles planned a discreet introduction ahead of his 50th birthday party.
09:28 However, fate had other plans when Prince William paid an unexpectedly early visit to
09:32 the palace, but their introduction apparently went well.
09:50 Accounts also suggest Prince Harry's first meeting was cordial, but he felt she was somewhat
09:55 indifferent towards him.
09:56 He even went so far as to liken the encounter to getting an injection.
10:00 Yikes!
10:01 This scene practically writes itself.
10:09 2.
10:13 The Queen Mother's 100th Birthday While hitting 100 may become more common in
10:18 the future, in 2012, the United Nations reported that only 316,000 individuals – that's
10:25 less than 1% of the global population – live to see triple digits.
10:43 We imagine that number was even smaller just over a decade earlier, when the Queen Mother
10:47 became the first British royal to reach this milestone.
10:57 It's surprising that such a momentous event didn't get more attention in the crown.
11:01 We're not suggesting it needed a whole episode, but it feels like a missed opportunity not
11:06 to recreate some of the joyful celebrations that mark this historic occasion.
11:10 If you ask us, this was a landmark moment well worth revisiting.

11:42 Diana's iconic 1997 Christie's auction We've delved into Diana's charitable endeavors,
11:49 but her status as a fashion icon deserves some attention, too.
12:01 In 1997, Vanity Fair featured her as their cover girl, accompanied by a candid spread
12:06 about her desire for a fresh start.
12:08 However, a captivating way to revisit her iconic looks would have been to recreate her
12:13 1997 Christie's auction.
12:15 With 79 outfits reportedly on offer, it wasn't just about fundraising; it served as a symbolic
12:20 bookend to her pre-divorce life.
12:23 Notably, the dress she wore during her dance with John Travolta at the White House in 1985
12:28 fetched a then-record-breaking $222,500.
12:33 Surely they could have found a Travolta lookalike to recreate that moment flashback-style.
12:48 Talk about iconic.
12:59 Which moment from royal history would you have wanted to see in the Crown's final season?
